Ron Paul: Ground Zero Mosque Foes Beat Hateful Drum
Newsmax ^ | August 31, 2010 | John Rossomando

Ground zero mosque opponents are pounding a “drumbeat of hatred” and ignoring the conservative principles of private property and religious freedom, Texas Rep. Ron Paul says.

In an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview, the 2008 GOP presidential hopeful alleged that conservative opponents of the mosque and cultural center two blocks from the World Trade Center site in New York City are blaming all Muslims for the Sept. 11 attacks instead of focusing their ire on al-Qaida, the actual perpetrator.

Paul’s stance has placed him at odds with many Republicans, including his son, Kentucky GOP Senate candidate Rand Paul, who voiced his opposition to the proposed mosque and Islamic center two blocks north of ground zero during a recent Newsmax.TV interview.

Conservatives are enamored with the idea of having an imperial presence on the world’s stage, with troops stationed around the globe, the elder Paul says.

“They support the war in Afghanistan and Iraq — and actually support plans for intimidating and moving toward war in Iran,” he says. “They have to have a reason for that, and they can’t say it’s for oil or they can’t say it’s to . . . make them all democrats over there.

“You have to have somebody you are willing to hate — you have to have a Hitler to hate.”

Paul believes such advocates are making Muslims that hate target to get Americans to support the wars.

“They have to keep the drumbeat of hate up, so they have to blame the entire religion,” he says. “That’s not everybody . . . that might support or not support building the mosque, because a lot of people just say, ‘That’s bad manners and they shouldn’t do it because they haven’t thought it through.’”

This is our proof. All along Ron Paul has been chipping at the edges of the GOP strategy... attacking spending on the political flank and helping the Democrats on occasion...he’s been doing it because he’s a cultural globalist... not because he’s a so called “True Conservative”.

Paul has just simply lost it. He now needs to get off the stage as quickly as possible.

If the issue was property rights, he would have called the Mosque opponent thieves and robbers.

Instead he called them bigots. Which means at least for him, it isn’t about supporting property rights, it’s about fighting anti-islamic sentiments.

I have not heard anyone argue that the owners of the property have no right to build a mosque, assuming such a use is approved through normal channels by the local planning and zoning commission.

I certainly wouldn’t dispute that right. The issue is that Muslims should be more sensitive to what happened in the area and how it has affected the families and friends of the victims, the responders and many Americans.

The Inman says he wants to reach out to Americans. Slapping us in the face with a victory mosque is not the way to reach out. We have nothing to prove to Islam, muslims live and worship without harrassment every day in this country.

Islam is the entity with something to prove. Muslims need to show us that AQ, the Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah and the other groups that sow terror are not following the precepts of Islam, are shunned and thrown out of Islam.

Ron, we know a poke in the eye when we feel it. Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining.

I am not saying that it is not insensitive to build the mosque on that piece of land. I am simply saying that Constitutional Rights trump people's feelings.

If that were not the case, the families of those who have been murdered by firearms could say that people should not have 2nd Amendment Rights because they believe that firearms ownership is insensitive.

Where does it stop?

Are we going to give-up all of our rights because some believe that our exercising our Constitutional Rights is insensitive?

This comment is disappointing.

Ron Paul called those opposed to the Mosque hate-mongers.

Do you support or denounce that statement?

Give me a break. Who is claiming banning ALL of anything in opposition to the victory mosque at Ground Zero? There is no call for banning all worship of Islam. There is no call for banning ALL mosques or anything to the nature of your extreme example.

If you can not understand that Ground Zero is Holy ground here for those who love this nation and that this is a finger being poked into our eye as we still cry and mourn those who lost their lifes that day and all of the brave men and women who sacrificed since that day then you are simply blind.

I guess we should allow porn shops and shooting ranges near schools? There are always some exceptions that get made in regards to the nature of our rights. Christianity is being driven out of the public square everyday and it is a violation of our rights but the same who are crying about our rights in regards to this Ground Zero mosque could care less.

Ron Paul is being Ron Paul again. He never misses an opportunity to get it wrong. This issue is neither about private property nor religious freedom. It is about doing the right thing. Just because someone has the right to do something does not mean that it is right to do it. If the main purpose of the mosque was for establishing good feelings between Muslims and non-Muslims, it is defeating the purpose.

“Ron Paul called those opposed to the Mosque hate-mongers.”

My statements have only expressed my understanding of Property Rights.

No, I do not believe that every person that opposes the mosque are hate mongers.

If not at this spot, how far from Ground Zero would you propose that the Governmnet permit this mosque to be built?
