NYT: At Lincoln Memorial, a Call for Religious Rebirth (Crowd Estimate)
New York Sl/imes ^ | 8/28/2010 | KATE ZERNIKE and CARL HULSE

WASHINGTON — An enormous and impassioned crowd rallied at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, summoned by Glenn Beck, a conservative broadcaster who called for a religious rebirth in America at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech 47 years ago to the day.

“Something that is beyond man is happening,” Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. “America today begins to turn back to God.”

It was part religious revival, part history lecture, as Mr. Beck invoked the founding fathers and the “black-robed regiment” of pastors of the Revolutionary War and spoke of American exceptionalism.

-snip-

Officials do not make crowd estimates because they are unreliable and can be controversial, but event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

I said birds have a spark of life that rocks do not have, which is from God. Do you not wish to address that point?

Organized religion has a role. It can focus resources that we as individuals cannot muster as in times of disaster and such.

Problem is it also focuses theological change to easily.

An example I think of is some of the ‘hippie’ stuff coming from on high in the Methodist Church. To many “ministers” who have never had a flock but sit in theology classes at liberal schools thinking that God was not entirely right in the bible.

That's the thing that brings gay clergy and such.

As it is I stay because it is my house, i grew up there and these ideas are robbers of my faith and like a burglar in my own home I am not moving just because they are robbing me, I am fighting for what is mine.

I dare not post them here, however, because the last time I posted the LDS Articles of Faith, they were blasphemed, overwritten with trash, and used for toilet paper.

I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ nor am I ashamed to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Jesus is my Savior, my Advocate with the Father, and my very Best Friend.

One would have thought that after Saturday’s great event, the anti Mormon bigots would take a break but alas that is apparently not the case. How sad.

Hmmm.... interesting point. However, methinks “Cult” is a word with a serious identity disorder. My sources (dictionary, commentators, etc.) say it is not a derivative of “occult” but rather an abbreviated form of the latin “cultus,” which simply means a specific form of devotion to one or more deities (aka “worship”). Thus “occult” is simply “worship” with a prefix that means “hidden.” So I do not dispute the occult, and thus unbiblical, nature of secret rituals, whether Mormon, Freemason, or otherwise, but the word “cult,” by itself, does not necessarily imply that.

Have you never heard of pouring whiskey on a wound in the old days of the West before antibiotics?

Jesus didn’t always comment on the obvious.

One would think; after a MORMON performed a MIRACLE Saturday, that the 50,000 strong Morgbot army would have called a Ceasefire; but; alas, it appears that they knocked on doors with even MORE vigor!

How programmed.

Oh don't even try and go there.

Beck did some good for the CONSERVTIVE cause, we won't deny that, but seeing as you are a ROMNEY sycophant you have no standing to make ANY comment on the political side of the matter.

If we took everything in scripture literally, we would be doing some bizarre things.
