WASHINGTON An enormous and impassioned crowd rallied at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, summoned by Glenn Beck, a conservative broadcaster who called for a religious rebirth in America at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous I Have a Dream speech 47 years ago to the day.
Something that is beyond man is happening, Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. America today begins to turn back to God.
It was part religious revival, part history lecture, as Mr. Beck invoked the founding fathers and the black-robed regiment of pastors of the Revolutionary War and spoke of American exceptionalism.

Officials do not make crowd estimates because they are unreliable and can be controversial, but event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

Again you show you utter ignorance, both in saying there are only “minor doctrinal” differences between LDS and Chritiantiaty as well as your attack against good Christians defending their Savior against the lies of the LDS as being “enemies” of Conservatism. Indeed it is the weak kneed Christianity of today that lends support to Obama whilst being too sorry to defend itself and its savior.
I guess the whole pushing the socialist Romney bit in 08 flew right under your “brilliant” nose.
Show them to us...
Enlighten us low lifes with your brilliance!
So here is your chance to put up.
Show where the following are LIES...
“He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be.”
- Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321
“You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god...”
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88
“If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]”
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)
There is “no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God”
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190
“I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, “Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;” if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgressionif you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again.”
- Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155
“It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,”
- Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670
If you know ANYTHING about true historic Christian beliefs you know that these run contrary to everything we believe and therefore PROVE that the LDS is not Christian.
However if these are lies and distortions PROVE it...
Here is your chance to shut us low lifes up!
Fair enough. But what standard has the Lord chosen for those who have not heard His word? Surely that’s in the Bible. Aren’t all answers in the Bible according to you, except for the way out there questions like the Trinity?
or else WHAT will happen to him?
That question could be asked of any person who is affiliated with any of the organized religions today.
In your post 302 you quoted:
For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do. 2 Nephi 25:23 (Book of Mormon)
And
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: but it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (JST)
When the jailor asked Paul and Silas what he needed to do to be saved:
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Each one of those statements says that salvation comes from a belief and trust in Jesus. The Bible tells us that we are drawn by the Spirit and the Spirit dwells in us. Not one man can make any of those statements without having been drawn by the Spirit. Our sinful nature would not allow it without the active participation by the Spirit of God.
Neither you nor I can convince anyone without the Holy Spirit working in that person to make a statement like that. If they do claim that they believe in Jesus as their hope for salvation it is indicative of the work of the Holy Spirit. Once they accept Jesus as their savior, it is the Holy Spirit who will work in their lives. From that point on it is not ours to judge what the Holy Spirit is doing in their heart.
The evidence of being “Spirit-filled” in this dispensation of grace that we’re living in today is found in Ephesians 5:18-6:9. This is the only place in Paul’s letters where he writes about being filled with the Spirit, and here’s where he gives us the description of a Spirit-filled believer.
By everything I have observed in Glen Becks life I believe he is a Spirit filled Christian. From that point on, I believe we are to leave it to the Spirit of God to work in a persons life. For us to try to do the work of the Spirit would be to deny that we believe the Holy Spirit is capable.
I, for one, trust that the Spirit of God, once a person has accepted Jesus as their Savior, to work in that persons life and lead where He wants that person to go. I will not stand in His way. To try to convince anyone that what the Spirit of God is doing in any persons life is wrong is to claim that the Spirit of God is wrong.
Elsie,
My apologies if I offended you. I was just responding to your question marks about my original post.
Original post:
“Someones gonna have to take one for the team. The Slimes arent getting any more of my clicks or cookies.
Ditto for any Journ0Lists.
You are gone-dhis in my book. The lot of you.”
****
You wrote back with “??” as a response, so I was explaining myself.
This was my post back, trying to explain what I meant by using ‘gone-dhis’:
“As in I am removing you all from reading & thinking about what you write.”
I was speaking about reporters for the New York Times and other members of the Journ0List. Not a fellow FReeper. NOT YOU, for Heaven’s sake.
Apologies.
HarleyD, thank you for calling to mind some of our most faithful examples of courage under pressure. I am a bit confused. Did you perceive me to be critical of Glenn Beck? My first post, #220, was meant to build on the thoughts he brought out this weekend. I do not place limits on God. He can do whatever He wants with any particle within our universe. I differ with you in one thing. People are human, not God, and that is why they can’t get it right all the time. I do not believe people are born sinners. Glenn Beck appears to me to be a fine man. I have been impressed with his courage on a number of occasions. He caused me to feel hope for America this weekend, something I hadn’t felt for a while. I’m in the battle on the side of good for the long haul, HarleyD, even if I don’t see hope for America. As Theophilis pointed out, there is every indication that the long haul for America looks bad. It is all in God’s hands, and without His blessing this nation is doomed. We will not be blessed by Him if our nation does not do just as Glenn Beck said, Turn back to Him. And maybe, even then, God will not be for us. But I continue to pray for mercy and I continue to walk in the Light, and I continue to keep looking up toward my home in heaven.
Regarding the Mormon doctrine, I do not agree with it. But my focus is not that disagreement. My focus is building on the ideas of country—for me, as I pointed out in 220 is a separate matter— that Glenn Beck presented. Please re-read my post and consider my thoughts from this perspective. I would appreciate your ideas in this regard.
Daisy
I am really sorry for apparently having offended you.
I don’t attack other FReepers. I’ll defend the occasional FReeper I’ve gotten to know and respect.
My apologies again. This has me really hanging my head low.
Wanna bet?
"Let us unite in opposition to satan as manifested my communism and get back to the battle..."
Some folks can multi-task. Hell is forever, communism isn't.
The problem is when these divisions push more critical issues off the stage in the political arena and allow the enemy to divide us so they can advance their agenda of Marxism and the substitution of blunt political force for God.
But you probably already knew that. Either because you are actively working for the enemy or because you are so blinded by your narrow religious bigotry that you are unable to understand you are working for the enemy.
Either way, reasoning with you or responding to you is an abject waste of time, because you will not be convinced. You've proven that by dragging petty religious divisions into a political thread.
And, yes, in the context of preserving American values and religious freedom for all, they are petty. You are on the same side as Howard Dean. So responding to you is a complete waste of time. Sorry that I did.
All men, even the most primitive know right an wrong, and Christ died for all man kind. God, the real one, is a loving and just father and will provide for those not reached through their actions and heart just as much as he will punish those who have heard the word and rejected him.
I have now answered your question. do with it as you will, play your parlor tricks if you so desire, it matters to me not, but don't expect my participation, I am not here to serve the Evil one....
“Good Lord, (no pun inteneded),”
Since you weren’t addressing God, that is a misuse of His Holy name. Food for thought.
Matthew 5:37
But let your Yes be Yes, and your No, No. For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
“God put His own breath in the human not the dog, bird, or frog into the human.
IMO, I would say that is not technically, theologically correct. God put the breath of the Holy Spirit into humans. But all life has energy of God in it, and all life breaths, thus all ife has some divine, ie supernatural, energy in it, or it would not be life. So in that sense all life is sacred, but obviously all life does not have the potential man has to realize God.”
You have started your point correctly—IN MY OPINION—
Please provide one Biblical passage which supports the idea that because all life breaths it is divine or supernatural.
My theology—
Genesis 1:26
Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.
I see you have not answered the question I asked in #220. Does this mean you have no thoughts on this subject? I hope you do. I would be interested in hearing them.
Thank you for responding. I understand your position.
Thank you for responding. I understand your position.
Indeed, why do you think we have the problems with Socialism, Marxism, Islam and moral decay?
Because our Christan faith in America has become more concerned with not offending anyone ala Oprah Winfrey than for standing for 2000 years of truth, truth that transcends politics but impacts it all the same.
And yes, I will state it loud and clear so there is no misunderstanding:
I AM A BIGOT! I HATE THE DEVIL AND EVERY MACINATION HE BRINGS AGAINST US, BE IT THE FALSE POLITICS SUCH AS MARXISM AND SOCIALISM ETC. OR FALSE RELGIONS OF ISLAM AND THE LDS ETC.
It is ONLY by attacking evil on ALL fronts, political and spiritual that we will succeed. All the political blather in the world will matter not if God is not on our side. He made America he can just as easily destroy it and move on to the next group who desires liberty and freedom.
Personally I would prefer he stay with us, how about you?
And don't worry about not being able to disprove Elsie's post, no body ever has, hence the personal attacks against him. It is all the opposition ever has and one cannot beat the truth.
I wonder, have you watched Glenn Beck’s opening talk before he called the first person out onto the stage Saturday? ... Do you agree that while 5000 years ago Moses was leading the Hebrews out of Egypt, at the same time here on the other side of the world, the same thing was happening? Beck stated that in his opening monologue. Do you agree with that decidedly Mormonesque scenario?
Amazing...
yet there are those, many Christians, who will blindly and blithely let it pass...
We are in trouble, and it's not just because of the Marxist in the Whitehouse. It amazes me how our forefathers were so much smarter than we are now as a whole....
The fact that both groups have risen above these historical injustices and are among the most patriotic Americas out there today is something which both aforementioned groups-- and this country-- should be proud. It shows how far we have come as a country in embracing our ideals of freedom and justice for all, as Dr. King's niece so eloquently echoed in her subsequent speech.
“Ah kid”
I am young at heart. Thanks for the compliment.
“not UNIVERSAL TRUTH
1. That limits God
2. God is Spirit...”
Do you have the impression that I believe universal truths apply to God? Universal truths are FROM God and FOR man. God can do whatever He wants to do. Man, on the other hand must seek God’s truth in order to be in fellowship with Him. The example I gave is “life is sacred.”
