NYT: At Lincoln Memorial, a Call for Religious Rebirth (Crowd Estimate)
New York Sl/imes ^ | 8/28/2010 | KATE ZERNIKE and CARL HULSE

WASHINGTON — An enormous and impassioned crowd rallied at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, summoned by Glenn Beck, a conservative broadcaster who called for a religious rebirth in America at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech 47 years ago to the day.

“Something that is beyond man is happening,” Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. “America today begins to turn back to God.”

It was part religious revival, part history lecture, as Mr. Beck invoked the founding fathers and the “black-robed regiment” of pastors of the Revolutionary War and spoke of American exceptionalism.

-snip-

Officials do not make crowd estimates because they are unreliable and can be controversial, but event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

Your intentional efforts to marginalized and mock the Book of Mormon in which you think you are demeaning JS, but these are the scriptures and records of the sevants of the Lord and should the Lord not forgive you I will understand!

Poor Resty...

It appears that she UNDERSTANDS nothing!

Especially any thing about what was allegedly UNTRUE about PRESBYTERIANism.

Notice how scrupulously she avoids even ACKNOWLEDGING that anything was asked of her about it?

I watched Ralph Reed being interviewed on C-Span and he discussed the event which took place the night before the rally and the breakfast before the rally and he spoke in glowing terms of Glenn Beck’s efforts to unite people of faith, encouraging America to look to God for guidance.

It was a spectacular event and I am so grateful to Glenn Beck for what he did. The money for the event came out of Beck’s own pocket and Lord knows a lot of money was raised for the Special Ops project.

Nothing but good can come of this and the wheat is being separated from the tares. You can see it right here on this very thread.

Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen.

“Was it not a mircle that one lonely Mormon got over 650,000 folks of other faiths to come join togather for the good of the country!”

Yes, it was a miracle. A bona fide miracle. I thank God for Glenn Beck.

If I were looking for a church, I’d be very much inclined to look into the Mormon brand of Christianity based soley on the lowlife type of people on this forum who lie about, distort it and ridicule it.

Be careful.

If GOD can use a talking donkey to get His message across; I'm sure using me would be a similar task.

I am waiting for one miracle, as it would surely take an act of God, to have an article on Beck that doesn’t turn into Morman bashing....

Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen.

"He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be."
 - Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321

"You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god..."
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88

"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]"
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)

There is "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God"
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

"I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, "Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;" if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgression—if you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again."
 - Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155

"It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,"
 - Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670

No one, not even Jesus knows when that day is to come. Maybe tonight, while we sleep?

I don't know what your soteriology/eschatology is, but I'm sort of a 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith sort of person. With that in view, In John's Gospel we are told that the Father chooses which people will be saved and "given" to the Son. In 2 Peter 3 we read that our LORD will return when the last of the elect is redeemed. So as far as prophecy goes, since it is the Father who chooses, it makes perfect sense that the Son, in the way that the Trinity functions from our perspective, would "not know" the day of His return since it is the Father who decides and brings that person to faith.

The passages in the Olivet Discourse concerning "wars and rumors of wars...earthquakes...famine" speak of these things as common place and NOT to be interpreted as precursors of the Last Day. The only thing that determines the Last Day, is the last of the elect being redeemed.

But, there is this interesting thing in Scripture that tells us what the Days will be like at His return, He compares the days to those of Noah and Lot. If you take in all of the descriptions in the Gospels where this is mentioned, our LORD describes relative prosperity where people are still giving in marriage, buying and selling, building, eating and planting. Since the prediction is made for all believers all over the world out of every nation, then I would think that this relative prosperity would be global in nature.

Has there been any recorded instance where the entire world can accurately state that all of these things are taking place within their own borders? Personally, I think that was one of the Divine Missions of the West in general and the US in particular - to provide global security, peace, technology, and a financial platform so that the entire world could enjoy a slice of prosperity. After the Soviet Menace went into remission, and Communist China got out of its drug haze and has become the economic powerhouse that it is, the relative global prosperity has finally been realized (as far as recorded history is concerned).

This gets into my pet theory of the Upper Limits. Right now, not concerning which of the Elect is still on the cusp of being redeemed (which we will never know), the world meets all of these qualifications stated by our LORD. Now for the Blue Bird of F'ing Joy: what happens when global polticial events take place that undermine that state of prosperity? What happens if the Sodomites in the US cause marriage to be irrelevant so that it doesn't matter if people do it anymore? What happens if our economic policies cause our food supply to be destroyed which would precipitate famine? Then we would be outside of that environment which our LORD said would exist at His Parousia.

What do we see right now? We see the engine of global prosperity and peace being irretrievably undermined. IOW, we are approaching the Upper Limits and will soon be moving away from that specified state. As President Soros and the Congress causes the US to collapse, then we can expect one thing for certain: A thousand years of darkness. So, according to my thinking, we are presently in that sweet spot of time, soon to be exiting that frame for another thousand years.

I'm not advocating working in a manner to accelerate the decline, because the Parousia might still be many generations off, and I still want to go to my grave in a manner other than martyrdom or war. But connect the dots and maybe it might take some of the edge off of your anxiety. IOW, President Soros might be the last US president because all of the things that needed to be accomplished by the West and the US have already been fulfilled - bringing health, wealth and peace to the entire globe.

What this means to me is that 8/28 probably was a good time had by all who participated, and kudos to Beck for pulling this off for it certainly has created splendid memories and new friendships that wouldn't otherwise come about, but in the larger picture, doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

The Ezekiel 38-39 composite predictions concerning the Church being opened to the Gentiles and completed in the Pariousia is something for another day.
