WASHINGTON An enormous and impassioned crowd rallied at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, summoned by Glenn Beck, a conservative broadcaster who called for a religious rebirth in America at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous I Have a Dream speech 47 years ago to the day.
Something that is beyond man is happening, Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. America today begins to turn back to God.
It was part religious revival, part history lecture, as Mr. Beck invoked the founding fathers and the black-robed regiment of pastors of the Revolutionary War and spoke of American exceptionalism.

Officials do not make crowd estimates because they are unreliable and can be controversial, but event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

And I have no trouble with Beck making an appeal to shared virtues that make this country possible. As for the difficulty I raised, that God is rejected wherever Jesus is rejected, that’s not my idea. Jesus teaches that himself:
For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. John 5:22-23
So for Beck to be right, Jesus has to be wrong. I can’t go there. I’m betting the farm that Jesus is right about this. Others are free to do as they see fit.

Kid just for your sake I'm going to tell you some truth...
YOU CAN NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH
Thank you.
OK so you have let me know that you are capable of judging who the Christians are...
Does that stretch to Conservatives also ???
Or are those two catagories soldered azt the hip ???
Must have been a pretty small football field to be "packed" by several hundred people.
The left dont like Islam, its just that the enemy of my enemy is my friend and both the left and Islam hate America more than anything - hence you get leftist feminist groups supporting Islam, etc. The left and Islam will use each other for their own purposes(destroying America) and then turn on each other.I used to think what you just posted but I don't think it anymore.
It's true that no leftist would willingly live within the restrictions of a Sharia regime.
However, they all LOVE what Islam does to people, enslaves them, holds them down, controls them, restricts them, prevents them from ever actually DOING anything (other than hate the West).
They don't want Islam for themselves (just like billionaire environmentalists don't want energy restrictions for themselves) but they LOVE what Islam does.
So yes, maybe they don't "like" Islam... but they f*ing A love it.

Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.Mary was also conceived without sin?
Everyone please stop picking on Mormons. (Transparency: I am not a Mormon). This battle is about conservatism versus communism. We all have the right to worship as we see fit and taking cheap shots at each others doctrines only makes the communists giggle with delight. G-d will sort out who is His in the end. In the mean time, let's focus on destroying Liberals... Thank You...No, thank YOU. For posting what should be obvious but for too many blockheads (who call themselves conservative) is not.
Funny, I never see Mormons polluting these boards with their tirades as to who is and who is not Christian. And nobody is denying your right to freedom of speech.Thank you for posting this. I've tried on previous threads to argue with these nitwits but I'm not doing it any more. I've had enough. But I'm still here reading and occasionally I'm going to highlight a particularly good post, like yours, and repeat it.We just get awfully tired of your little closed group getting your panties in a twist anytime a great man like Glenn Beck who also happens to be a Mormon does something positive and worthwhile.
Must have been a pretty small football field to be "packed" by several hundred people.I noticed that too. It's Fidel Castro Journalism, that sees the Beck rally as small-middling and the football field as "packed".
And I also am not a Mormon and never have been.
It's called a "red herring." Or a "Straw Man." It's what someone does when they cannot discuss an issue with integrity, and with honorable, fact-based debate.
It's what you just did. I never said that "...it is silly to recognize the real differences between traditional Christianity and Mormonism," yet you accuse me of such with your opening salvo. That is a lie. A lie is a sin. If you go before God with that stain on your soul, un-confessed and un-repented, you will burn in Hell for eternity.
Is it worth it?
I pointed out differences between Mormonism and true Christianity. I only said that it was "silly" to pretend that Joseph Smith had called all Christianity "an abomination." He did not.
What you did is an abomination. Stop it. If you cannot debate the facts without lying and deceitful innuendo, you are much better off just not getting involved.
N'kay?

(P.S.) To The Central Scrutinizer: Thank you for your dutiful, knee-jerk review; it is being submitted for approval by an authority even bigger than yours... and better looking, and nicer smelling. N'yuk, n'yuk, n'yuk.
I think the truth is closer to the fact that they aqre fearful of the Islamics and willing to compromise...
What we see is the same mentality of the Neville Chamberlains or any others who mistakenly thought that surrender and “friendship” who keep the wolf at bay...
Eagar and willing to believe any argument that our worst enemies are really misunderstood sweet people at heart..
They think if they are “nice” to our enemies, that our enemies are magically obliged to not act like enemies...

Its that old story about the little girl and the snake...
A little girl was out walking in her nice warm coat that Mommy had made for her...
It was a cold snowy day but she was warm and cozy...
She saw a snake lying in the path, dying from the cold, and was about to turn away...
The snake called out in his fainting last gasps, “Little girl, please help me.”
The little girl said, “I mustnt come near you. Youre a snake. Youre dangerous.”
The snake sighed, “Litle girl, I cant hurt you. I’m dying. Wont you help a poor soul in need ? What kind of a Christian are you ???”
The little girl was hurt by the snake’s words, and answered, “I go to Sunday School. I try to be nice to everyone”
“Well,” Said the snake. “Arent I an “everyone” too ???”
The little girl thought about this for a monent and answered, “Yes, yes, I suppose you are”
The snake moaned as though he was in pain and asked, “Then would you please help me ???”
“OK yes I will”, said the little girl.
The snake smiled weakly, “Oh what a good little girl”
“What do you want me to do ???” asked the little girl.
“Just pick me up and put me under your nice warm coat”, said the snake.
“Oh I cant do that!!!” exclaimed the little girl.
“Why ever not ???” demanded the snake. “I mean, I thought you were my friend” he simpered.
“Well” explained the little girl. “My Mommy made this pretty warm coat for me and she said I mustnt get it dirty. And youre all muddy and smelly.”
“Oh” cried the snake, “you were my last hope. I thought you were a good kind Christian. I would have thought your Mommy would be proud of you for being nice to a neighbor.”
“But I’ve never seen you before. My Mommy told me not to talk to strangers” said the little girl.
“And just because I am different than you” sighed the snake.
“Well you are a snake” began the little girl.
“So you dont like me because I’m a snake ???” whimpered the snake.
“Well snakes bite people. “ said the little girl.
“Only some snakes” explained the snake. “Very, very few radical snakes. I’m not that kind of snake. And anyway why would I hurt someone who is kind to me. ???”
The little girl made up her mind to help the snake, and picking him up very carefully, she placed him in her pocket and continued her walk.
After a while she asked him if he felt better.
The snake said, “ “There seems to be a draft, this is uncomfortable.”
“Oh I’m sorry” said the little girl, “What can I do for you ???”
“You could move me under your coat next to you” coaxed the snake.
“Promise you wont bite me ???” asked the gullible little girl.
“Havent we had a nice walk and a chat and havent I been a good friend to you ??? How could you say that I’m harmful ??” and the snake began to sniff.
“Oh I’m sorry. Dont cry. Here you go. I’ll move you” the little girl apologized
And she gently moved the snake from her pocket and placed him under her coat next to her warm beatng heart.
She hadnt gone far when she felt a terrible pain in her chest. The snake had bitten her.
She fell on the ground and the revived snake slithered out from under her coat.
“Wait” called the dying girl, “Why did you do that ???”
“I’m a snake my dear,” hissed the snake. “You were right the first time. You should never have trusted me”
I agree! We need to unite, not argue religion, in order to stay strong against the foe that would have religion buried if left up to them.
Had I not previously known Beck was Mormon, I wouldn't have known after today's event, either.
This was for all of us, IMO
Well said April Lexington. We’re on the cusp of returning this country to the roots of our morality and freedom and we have this juvenile playground chatter about one person’s God being bigger than another’s.
Willie Mays - who happens to be a native of Alabama!
If you cant enjoy the SPIRIT of the day (the same spirit that blessed our founders) which included such arcane ideas as a 1st Amendment, you know, that whole freedom of religion thing, then maybe this is the wrong thread for you.
