Uh oh: Top NRSC lawyer headed to Alaska to advise Murkowski?

DISASTER!!

~SNIP~

Sean Cairncross, the general counsel of the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, is headed to Alaska at the request of Sen. Lisa Murkowski to help provide guidance to the GOP incumbent finds herself trailing attorney Joe Miller by roughly 1,600 votes…

Committee sources insisted that too much should not be read into Cairncross’ presence in Alaska — only that the NRSC is an incumbent-retention committee and, as such, provides assistance when Senators ask for it.

Let me get this straight. After taking loads of abuse from the grassroots for endorsing Charlie Crist before Rubio’s campaign got off the ground, and with Murkowski already pointedly refusing to rule out a third-party bid if Miller’s (shrinking) lead holds up, John Cornyn and the NRSC are … sending their top lawyer to help her out? And framing it explicitly in terms of retaining incumbents? Do they really have no idea of how bitterly ferocious the backlash will be among the Republican base — especially, but not only, among Palin’s supporters — if they’re seen as tilting the election to Murkowski?

I tell them, “Sorry, all my funds are belong to Sarah Palin!”

Lets see if the middling Country Club, elitist, GOP idiots can keep up using their corporate sponsors, while 120 million people send money to Sarah Palin!

You are correct, Onyx. We need to wait until Sarah Plain takes control of the RNC. It will be like cleaning the Augean stables but she is exactly the person to do it!

is this before or after she endorses Cap'n trade McCain ?

Just goes to show that the GOP establishment isn't always just stupid. It's often as treacherous as the Democrats.

This is the NRSC getting involved, not the RNC. The NRSC advocates for sitting Senators. It's "management team" is comprised entirely of sitting senators, so they are going to protect the incumbent.

Is that their stated charter?

Because I can think of no greater fools errand.

Chaffee, Specter, the list is probably quite long of those propped up against the will of the public—the RNC exists to defeat those who represent conservative views. They are interested in first their own political elitist survival, and secondly to hoodwink the public. It is little more than a cabal of con-artists.

Show some independence, show your determination to unseat those only slightly less corrupt than the enemy across the aisle.

“The Republican state and national committees exist for the protection of the ruling class.”

Not to mention letting the national GOP drain off a bunch of our money for their yachts, private jets, prostitutes, parties and such prior to protection of the rest of the ruling class.

I will be VERY Candid.

These people do NOT want to win.

They want to be a 51 49 MINORITY, so they can PRETEND to be conservative but say “oh those Dems won’t let us”.

They do NOT want 8 seats this November and they SURE AS HELL do not want Joe or Rand.

Two real far right conservatives in the Senate?

NO WAY!

They WILL try anything to STOP it.

Cornyn is a god forsaken LIBERAL.

It stinks but that’s what the NRSC is there for first - to protect members of the NRSC primarily, and then secondarily to expand their own ranks in the general election. They run attack ads in many primaries against their sitting members...I’m not sure why this would be a surprise or get people worked up. Had most of Joe Miller’s momentum not come so late in the campaign, it is likely he would have been getting hit by the NRSC directly through attack ads, mailers, calls, etc. through a very organized effort to protect Murkowski. I’m not saying be happy about it, but to get fit to be tied as though this is something new or unheard for the NRSC to show favoritism to one of its own members isn’t really making sense to me...

Now its behavior in some primaries where there was no incumbent (unless someone is a complete loon or convicted felon or something they want to stop from getting the nomination), criticism is quite fair game. Their behavior in the Florida Senate race is a good example - and they sure ended up with eggs on their faces in that one and learned a hard lesson (well...maybe).

In the end, the NRSC is an important campaign apparatus, but if you don’t want money possibly going towards incumbents you want a chance to defeat in a primary, don’t give them any money until all primaries have ended or give your money directly to candidates or other organizations.

From the link you posted:

Committee sources insisted that too much should not be read into Cairncross' presence in Alaska -- only that the NRSC is an incumbent-retention committee and, as such, provides assistance when Senators ask for it. As evidence that the committee is not putting all of its chips on Murkowski, a GOP source tells the Fix that Rob Jesmer, the bespectacled executive director of the NRSC, spoke by phone with a top Miller aide yesterday -- making clear that if he wins the election the committee will support him wholeheartedly.

Is it possible the Political Class has enough interest in self-preservation to tell Murkowski to accept her defeat-and move on to the usual sort of cushy no-show job usually given to involuntarily retired politicians?

There hasn’t been a lot of data on that. Rasmussen has been polling O’Donnell vs Coons and Castle vs Coons but not O’Donnell vs Castle.

She would be behind, I’d assume. But it’s doable. Delaware is a small state. Money from outside the state would have a greater effect on a small state like Delaware than NY CA or TX. Castle is clearly to the left of Murkowski. Castle would likely be very close to Snowe and Collins. Murkowski at least wasn’t voting with Snowe and Collins.

If Palin gave the endorsement, a big light would shine on the race, and O’Donnell could possibly win, as she should.

This is a very very clear Conservative vs RINO race. As clear as there was or is out there this year. It’s definitely one that we all should want to win.

Thank you for pointed that out to me.

They really will have no choice but to “wholeheartedly” support him, after those ballots are counted or his win is offical.

Joe Miller is a former judge. He will not be cheated or deceived out of his win.
