A newly discovered type of oil-eating microbe is suddenly flourishing in the Gulf of Mexico.

And the microbe works without significantly depleting oxygen in the water, researchers led by Terry Hazen at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory ... the bacteria may have adapted over time due to periodic leaks and natural seeps of oil in the Gulf.

Every time the left thinks it has the world figured out, something from nature throws the lefties a knuckle ball.

Wow, the reporting of actual science. This is just too new to me. I feel weird reading it.

Can't we just all go back to the "environmental disaster" claims? It's much easier and more fun than the study of the earth and how it protects itself.

I forget the class of bacteria, but these guys can feed on a lot of things.

They are not endangered, but I like your thinking!

that nutty Leeuwenhoek guy may have been on to something:

“Myriad Monsters Confirmed in Water Droplets “

http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artoct00/jhps150.html

The discoverer of the watery menagerie seems to take such doubt in stride. “I can’t wonder at it, since ‘tis difficult to comprehend such things without getting a sight of ‘em,” Leeuwenhoek replied. With the next account of his miniature world, he provided testimonials from eight eyewitnesses, including three pastors and a notary public.

Berkely discover it? HA! Enter NRDC and their trial lawyers to really clean up. It’s all such a rip-off it really pisses me off. NRDC and Fenton Communications have being doing this since their “Apple Scare” scam.

What’s new is that “We have been putting “bus” is lease restorations for years and years” seems to be written in another language.

Natural seeps...oh no...can’t be....Only man makes oil leak...

Most notably underneath Harleys and Jaguars.

And for the Harley, you can no longer hear the drips splatter in a quiet garage...in the country...in the middle of the night...and with no dogs barking in the distance...

“Before buying into this finding lock, stock and barrel, I’d like to know the political leanings of the authors of the study, then look for peer review.”

I knew Terry Hazen about 10-15 years ago. IMO he was a hack and an opportunist who jumped into whatever field was hot, did some shoddy work and moved on. His work on the oil spill fits that pattern perfectly.

Granted...the Harley crack was a cheap shot and their quality is light years beyond what it once was.
But history is tough to let go of.

Boy I hope this works! I hear there’s a real fear now that all the oil may settle on the sea floor and perhaps sink deeply into the earth.

We have been putting “bugs” in lease restorations for years and years. Nothing new here.

Oil eating bacteria are found around guess what - oil.

Thanks for the ping. No surprise to me that ol’Ma Nature has been endowed by God with the ability to easily handle oil in the oceans. In fact, I would be much more surprised if that were not the case.
