For the first time since the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Japan 65 years ago, today the U.S. ambassador to Japan will attend the official commemoration ceremony at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. The U.S. ambassador has always declined the annual invitation, but this year is different. President Barack Obama decided to acknowledge the event with the presence of a high-level dignitary. As State Department spokesman Philip Crowley explained, Ambassador John Roos will be there "to express respect for all the victims of World War II."
Gene Tibbetsthe son of Brig. Gen. Paul W. Tibbets Jr., the pilot who dropped the bomb on Hiroshimacalled the Obama administration's decision "an unsaid apology." Whether or not that's the case, by saying "all the victims" Mr. Crowley raises the specter of moral equivalence, a problem that's grown worse over the years when it comes to judging right and wrong during World War II and throughout history.

Many Japanese will say that over a few too many beers in a hushed voice. Well at least some of the old codgers here.
NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR WINNING !!!!!
North Korea, Cuba, Boznia, and goodness knows more from there.....we are now known as the “Apology” nation. Barf.
Obama has no concept of World War II. I have 10 times more knowledge, if not 100x, than the very president of the United States, about this topic...Which doesnt say much, but still is rather sickening. I heard him bloviating on WWII once, and clearly he was winging it with the help of notes. Empty suit. Knows not America, nor our history. Ignorant so and so.
A SERIOUS case of "clientitis".
;^)
I know that Master Chief Duntno feels really bad about the Japs they killed while he was in the Pacific in WWll ... he used to say that he wishes they could have killed a lot more and a lot faster ... especially the cowardly monkeys that murdered all of those boys at Pearl ... his destroyer was about six days out ...
I thought Japan attacked the US first! Would not have bombed them if they didn’t bomb us first!
Safe to say, these apologies are entirely for foreign consumption, and the actions of Japanese troops during the brutal episodes of WWII are not mentioned when the country's history is discussed. Japan prefers to play the much more satisfying role of victim.
I always thought they should be mad at their leaders for not knowing when to quit.
As a kid, I was in a fight. I thought it was the manly thing to do to get back up one last time. Cost me two teeth and a broken rib.
My pride was already shot....I should have stayed down.
You know, I’m not convinced he was born in Kenya, but you can definitely put me on the list of birthers.
That being said, it doesn’t really matter. He has demonstrated himself to be of a mindset that is clearly foreign to the U.S. mindset.
Born here or not, this guy is if anything, a foreign national sitting in the White House dismantling our nation as we discuss this.
Seemingly the only history this man knows, is the skewed history that our most adamant detractors world-wide (and in the U.S.) have fostered.
I’ll guarantee you have 100 times the tools this man does, when it comes to being presidential timber.
Hope all is going good for you these days.
Obama is killing children in Pakistan and Afghanistan so an apology would be rather hypocritical right now.
Did they apoligize when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Their unspeakable depravity in China killed more people than the nukes did. Still, their school curriculum does not acknowledge.

Germans?
I’d say I wish we had a third bomb.
I would say we are sorry they were too stupid enough to attack us in the first place.
Gee, I don’t recall the Japanese apologizing for the Bataan death march, the rape of Nanking or even the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
I don’t think we should regret at all that the damned go to hell.
We might as express regret that God didn’t get it right the first by giving man free will.
This is the problem with secular socialists: they deny the existence of evil in the world.
