Small Business Optimism PLUNGES: Firms See Lower Spending And More Layoffs Ahead

The latest Wells Fargo/Gallup small business survey is out and it's UGLY.

In keeping with other indications that the state of small business is very bad, the survey indicates a level of pessimism about future results that's worse even that during the worst of the crisis.

What's more, small firms seem lower spending, lower cash flows, and lower headcount in the future.

As you click through the service, think of the contrast with the upbeat earnings and outlooks you've seen from the S&P 500 this quarter.

What the brilliant economicist in D.C. do not understand is the “certainty” (or confidence) IS a currency standard, much like gold. In general, the more you have, the better the economy, and the more you will get.

You got it. Joe the Plumber was Obama’s first exposure to what he percieved as a small business owner. And he didn’t like what he saw.

Just like in Russia and other countries, entrepreneurs will be driven into a black market that is “off the grid”.

It is already very much happening. One guy I know refinishes wood for cash out of his home. Officially he is “unemployed”. Another woman does dry cleaning in her garage for cash. She too is “unemployed”. Another woman re-manufactures antique (read expensive!) antique dolls for cash. Again, she is “unemployed”. She just bought a Maserati for cash. They are all unbanked.

"You got it. Joe the Plumber was Obama’s first exposure to what he percieved as a small business owner. And he didn’t like what he saw."

Two or three years ago I read somewhere that White males were being so discriminated against (for the sake of diversity/quotas) that many were/are unable to get jobs with major corporations, etc.
The article said that these White males were forced into starting their own (mostly services) businesses.....And, were quietly getting rich. I figured this is who Obama is coming for now.

I dont know about your peak oil proclamations, but just assuming you are correct about peaking oil in the US being reached in 1970... I would argue that the environmentalists and NIMBY types caused that. There is TONS of easy to get to oil in the US and the surrounding waters. They just wont let us get it, because it might aggravate a deer, or get oil on their beach, or hurt a polar bears feelings, or make an owl move, or ruin their view, or make pot holes in their roads.

Republican Politicians are not socialists. Democrat Politicians are all socialists.

All you GOP haters you are puppets of the liberal media or democrats posing as “conservatives”.

During all their 12 years with a simple majority, Republicans didn't create hundreds of government agencies as this one democrat government healthcare bill did. Democrats have created almost all of the hundreds of government agencies.

And don't name national security related agencies.

Name one active democrat in Congress that is for deporting illegals or abolishing some government agencies. There are none . So democrats are the threat. And all many of you here on this site and elsewhere do is bash Republicans when democrats/socialists are destroying the U.S.A. You go against the Republicans, the only thing that can stop the democrats/socialists.How proud you all must be to be helping democrats impose the technology killing and life killing dark cloud of socialism upon the world.

you have some valid points, republicans are slightly better than democrats. I vote R every time

but they also supported NAFTA, no child left behind, no enforcement at the border, global warming agenda, EPA expansion, farm subsidies, bailouts to the fed reserve, insurance, mortgage securities and hedge fund industries .....

and the GOP ran McCain in the last election which pretty much threw the election to Obama

...so what is conservative about the GOP ? (maybe a handful of conservatives in the ranks ?)

That's ridiculous. You claim that Republicans are for global warming . that's a lie.In 12 years Republicans didn't pass any cap and trade or global warming legislation. And Bush didn't sign on to Kyoto. It's democrats who are for passing cap and trade and other global warming laws. that there are a handful of nuts who call themselves Republicans that say they believe in global warming means nothing as there were no laws passed and Republicans all did recently filibuster a recent global warming bill set forth by the democrats in Congress.

All Republicans also voted against government socialist healthcare while all democrats voted for government socialist healthcare . If the parties were the same then Republicans would all be socialist and all would have voted for government healthcare or at least half don't you think?
This clearly shows the difference between the parties.

NO you have it backwards. you and the liberal media take a handful of liberal nuts who call themselves Republicans to tarnish all the Republicans and the Republican party. Or you take 1 unpopular issue that 1 Republican supports to tarnish the whole Republican party and all Republicans.

Republicans in Congress are not in charge of enforcing the border. The laws are on the books already and they did pass the fence. Democrats WILL pass Amnesty for illegals so they can get illegals and their families they bring in from the 3rd world to vote for democrats. Democrats are ALL socialists. At MOST only 20% of Republicans are liberal. So you want to throw out all the Republicans for 20% instead of trying to replace those 20% with more conservative Republicans.

The liberal media wants conservatives to think that there is no difference between the parties so that conservatives will stay home and not vote. Many of you conservatives have bought that lie of the Media and Michael Savage. So conservatives stayed home and democrats/socialists gained a super majority which was the media's goal. Then with the super majority democrats passed socialist government healthcare which is the main step towards full socialism. The democrat party thanks all the help you and those like you give to the democrat party and the cause of socialism.
