The Obama administration, anticipating that Congress might not pass comprehensive immigration reform this year, is considering ways it could act without congressional approval to achieve many of the objectives of the initiative, including giving permanent resident status, or green cards, to large numbers of people in the country illegally.
The ideas were outlined in an unusually frank draft memo prepared for Alejandro N. Mayorkas, director of the federal agency that handles immigration benefits, U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS). The memo lists ways the government could grant permanent resident status to tens of thousands of people and delay the deportation of others, potentially indefinitely.
"In the absence of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, CIS can extend benefits and/or protections to many individuals and groups by issuing new guidance and regulations," said the memo, which was prepared by four senior officials from different branches of USCIS.
The 11-page document was made public Thursday by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who with six other senators wrote to Obama [2] more than a month ago, asking for his assurance that rumors that some sort of reprieve was in the works for millions of illegal immigrants weren't true.
"The administration has failed to reassure us that the information we were hearing was inaccurate," Grassley said in a statement to ProPublica Thursday night. "This memo gives credence to our concerns that the administration will go to great lengths to circumvent Congress and unilaterally execute a back door amnesty plan."

In what would be a reversal of a position held by the agency's Office of General Counsel under previous administrations, the memo suggests granting green cards to large numbers of people currently in the country under Temporary Protected Status. That status typically is used to forestall deportation proceedings for large groups of undocumented foreign nationals when it would cause them hardship, such as sending them home in the wake of a major earthquake, hurricane or during a civil war.

If they do this and get away with it (which is unfortunately a very real possibility) the United States as we think of it will be over.

You're forgetting about the RiNOsceroid hierarchy in the GOP caucus. Boehner would go into navel-contemplating mode, and start knocking down any conservative move to start looking at Obama's doings, just the way Dubya and Lott and Frist obstructed pursuing the Clintons.
And for all the same reasons having to do with RiNO-ly aboveitallness, "we are serene in our contemplation of ourselves and our own agenda", and all that phony Gemuetlichkeit that USED to exist in the Congress before the post-Watergate 'Rat "Me Generation" of arrogant, ill-mannered ideologues arrived in 1975 and started running down Republicans and maltreating them.

Right... not just the "goods" (for his own use) but the considerable flow of money generated by their sale and distribution. There's big money in drugs. This money can be used to buy people and opinion, shape agendas, and control voting blocs. The drug cartels are controlling the routes by which the illegal aliens are accessing our southern border. (I have no information about what's going on at our northern border but perhaps it would be a good idea to keep an eye on that also--misdirection, you know).

As we were out today for dad's treatment, I had some thoughts: Remember the comments made about his travels as a young man paralleling the Afghanistan poppy seed/drug routes through Pakistan and Indonesia. Is he somehow connected to an international drug cartel?

But no doubt BHO knows that if he did one more liberal, leftist thing, the Dems would get zero votes at the midterms except from hardcore Dems, and the GOP would gain 150-175 seats in the House, instead of just 40-80. With that large of a majority, and that much anger about ignoring the will of the people, the rest of his term would be consumed with hearings and calls for impeachment. Which wouldn't be a bad outcome, by the way.

On the drug note...I was reading the other day that one of the drug lords in Central America is on the top 10 list of the richest people on the planet. He’s a multi billionaire. That kind of money can buy many favors from a lawless thug president like Obama.
