Barack Obama became the first sitting US President to appear on a daytime chat show as he attempted to reach out to ordinary Americans following a slump in his opinion poll ratings.
During the unprecedented appearance he was hoping to appeal to so-called "soccer moms" who are being heavily courted by the Republican and answered questions on family life and even the misfortunes of the actress Lindsay Lohan.
Critics have accused Mr Obama of demeaning the office of President by appearing on the sofa of ABC's "The View" alongside the veteran interviewer, Barbara Walters, and Whoopi Goldberg
During the programme, the US President recalled a family game he plays called "roses and thorns" where the Obamas recount something good and something bad that happened during the day. He was then asked for the high and low points of his previous month.
He recounted a recent weekend holiday he took in Maine with his wife, Michelle and two daughters. "The girls are getting old enough now where they're not quite teenagers yet, so they still like you. They are full of opinions and ideas and observations and it's just a great age," he said.
When it came to picking a "thorny" low point, "Where do I begin?" he joked.
"Obviously the country has gone through a tough stretch. Since I took office when I was sworn in the last 20 months have been a non-stop effort to restart the economy, to stabilise the financial system, to make sure we are creating jobs and not losing them," Mr Obama said.
However, he added: "As much as you've been saying it's tough for me, the truth is, it's not tough for me." The president joked that he decided to appear on the programme because it was one of the few shows watched by

I’ll betcha a dollar to a donut hole that if Stroker were to stay OFF of our TV for a week (day and night), his poll numbers would go up (slightly).
With his ego, we just know that’ll never happen.
"It barely seems that I am working at all"
Both viewers of the program agreed that the President added needed estrogen to the program. (Sorry Rush LOL!!)
I suppose his next accomplishment will be an appearance on ‘General Hospital’.
Let’s face it, the president is gay..
I’d prefer ‘america’s most wanted’.
I wonder if Larry Sinclair is one of the 10 people who have his blackberry address.
Demeaning? Hell, the American people demeaned the office by electing the two-bit, no account, Che Guevera/Robin Leach wannabe to it.
He's already a FAILED president...worse than the POS Jimmy Carter!
Or on a milk carton.
I am reminded that we should all take a moment and write Elisabeth Hasselback a letter of praise. she must get non-stop flak from those harpies she shares a stage with.
And can you imagine the death threats she gets from audience members ?
Did she ask Obama any tough questions? Was this really even an interview?
Whats the deal with that skank on the rights legs?
Is that for real?
RS
I have never seen this show, other than the occasional comic relief blurb showing stupidity on parade.
Frankly I got quite a laugh outta watching Joy Behar floppin’ her flabby t!ts around in front of Barry. She stopped just short of pulling one out...thankfully.
What do you think of Obama saying he did not know about you on Jersey Shore, but a tape from the past shows him joking about you, by name, and your show?
I would rather spend my time yanking out my toenails than watching the putz in chief. Would probably be less painful.
Good one!
