As the right to carry spreads across the United States, many law enforcement agencies and police officers express their unease and for some, outright alarm at the idea of citizens carrying concealed weapons.
......
Law abiding citizens do not expect to be treated like a felon nor should they be. They will be angry if you prone them out, spread eagle them against a wall, or take their firearm from them without just cause. Good point to remember: A little thought and common sense goes a long way here.

Same here in the Panhandle.....I carry a Guncrafters Ind Glock in 50GI ......the DPS always asked if they can shoot it.....:o)
CHL folks for most part in my small town are known an trusted by local cops. Few times I travel from home I just stay on cruise control an avoid a traffic stop.
The head on the swivel thing is so true. I personally don’t do it and don’t understand why others do. But I can spot a CCW person in a bar without even trying. He’s the one drinking water, with a pocket knife pocket clip showing on his pants pocket, and looking around more than normal.
Excellent. Officers are not opposed to the law abiding having a right to carry and doing so. The bad guys already have them so it’s still even, except now, once in awhile, the law abiding are able to rescue, save lives, and hold until the cops come. A straw argument to see any disadvantage.
But, but, but... I thought that the police were our friends, could do no wrong, walked on water...
The sooner folks realize that while the cops may not be the enemy , they are not your friends either, the better off society as a whole will be.
My CCW class was taught by a sheriff deputy. He told us to NEVER tell a city cop you have a gun, unless he asks you point blank “are you carrying a gun”. He said first of all, it’s none of their business, and second, city cops are paranoid and will freak on you, call backup, and you will be surrounded by ten angry cops in no time.
Or like the guy in Las Vegas you will end up dead.
“The police get paid to protect us. We do not forfeit our rights to protect them.”
Several cases in Texas where the LEO’s butt has been saved by a law abiding armed citizen.
Thanks once again for the dozen or so punctuation marks and all caps sarcastic comments. You really go a long way in forwarding your ‘argument’ on these type of threads.
“Then go to somalia for example they have this there. This is called anarchy! and this is not definitely a good thing! “
What is it called when there is one set of laws for some and another set of laws for others?
Whether you are in Atlanta Georgia, Nashville Tennessee or Somalia you are responsible for your own safety.
In America the cops are not responsible for our safety, they are responsible for investigating crimes and arresting those accused of said crimes. The US Supreme Court put it very eloquently recently.
When they said, “Its not the job to protect the individual person, but to protect the citizenry as a whole.”
Once the country gets its head out of its @$$ and realizes this the better off we will be.

The US Criminal Justice System...

Local cop asked me once CCW law was passed if I was gonna get a permit to carry my "hog leg" (Charter Arms .44 SPL). I told him my permit was over 220 years old.... he laughed and said "have a nice day". I've since gotten the state permit.
Perhaps situational awareness?
You are welcome.
I fully realize that there are two dynamics at work here - the protection of honest hard working cops and the rights of the average citizen, and of course there are abuses on both sides of this equation. In my opinion the taunting and sarcasm make your side of the equation (as noble as the intent may be) that much harder to empathsize with, which I would imagine is the opposite of your intent.
Good article, and very refreshing to read the reader comments on the site.
Let’s all say this together, “The police get paid to protect us. We do not forfeit our rights to protect them.” This is especially true when it is just about making them feel superior.
This is not a true statement. Police will tell you their job is not to protect you. Their job is to keep the peace and enforce the law. Period.... Just ask one of them and they will tell you that.
Uh, ok barney fife.
They only do it when they are carrying, barney.
