'Hikikomori' bedroom hermits should be regarded as national crisis
There are approximately 230,000 people who almost constantly shut themselves in their rooms except to go to nearby convenience stores, according to a survey conducted by the Cabinet Office. The number increases to about 700,000 if those who only go out to do something hobby-related are included.
Moreover, there are an estimated 1.55 million potential so-called 'hikikomori' who have felt like shutting themselves in their own rooms. Most of them are young people.
As the population of young people declines due to falling birthrates, the statistics have raised questions about the future of Japan.
Hikikomori are defined as those who shut themselves in their homes for at least six months but are not involved in child care or housework even though they are not sick.
Problems involving shut-ins have been pointed out over the past 15 years, but only experts and nonprofit organizations have worked on the issue, with little public support. The government has been late in responding to the situation and taken only stopgap measures. Numerous cases have ended in tragic incidents, and the situation was worsened as a result of treatment and education that lacked solid scientific foundations.

Ghost in the Shell?
There was a similar story during the 80-90’s where the young had a sense of hopelessness about ever owning a home etc. They were buying cars and indulging in clothes and the like.
People have no chance of accomplishing.
Perhaps japan has perpetual unemployment checks?

Don’t be so quick to laugh. This phenomenon is rapidly growing in the US as well, and for the same basic reasons.
1) Children are force fed totally bizarre expectations about sexuality, for various perverse reasons, involving both social manipulation and money, parents and their children have been propagandized that sexuality begins long before adolescence. Not gender, sexuality.
Even the current occupant of the White House, and his “Safe Schools PedoCzar” want to indoctrinate very young children with twisted sexual expectations far worse than what they experience right now.
For decades now, Hollywood, the advertising world, and leftists have been pushing the propaganda that by high school age, at the very latest, children should have multiple sexual relationships with other children and adults.
The reality is that most children, already deeply uncomfortable with the rapid growth and hormonal fluctuations of adolescence, despair because they assume they are uniquely unattractive, even sexually repulsive to their peers. They believe that their peers have active sex lives and fulfilling and warm relationships, which is extremely rare at that age. Facing this humiliation, all they can do is lie, which just furthers the propaganda.
The small subset of children having regular sex are often victims of molestation, usually by members of their own family or other trusted adults. By adulthood, and for the rest of their lives, they are unlikely to ever experience a warm and loving relationship.
2) Likewise, children now face an economic disaster that has been decades in development. While their parents could start out poor and build up their prosperity, even with children, a combination of factors means that this can no longer be done. For most people, they will indeed start poor, and perhaps deeply in debt, usually due to student loans, and then they will stay poor for the rest of their lives.
Entering the economy now, except for the top earners, means that there will not only not be eventual prosperity, but that intelligently, marriage and family need to be delayed for decades until enormous debt has been erased.
Does a responsible young adult want to take on unconquerable poverty? And do they wish to inflict that on a spouse, or children?
Though it is a heartbreaking decision, many young adults will choose to not take responsibilities that they cannot meet. If that means they must live with their parents, they will do so instead of harming others.
And those that do take on responsibilities that they cannot meet will have marriages that end in divorce, and children raised in poverty and dependence, while they slave endlessly in a thankless job, without even the prospect of retirement.
In exchange, those politicians and other fiends who have brought about this deplorable situation to feed their power and twisted philosophies, are the only ones who benefit from reducing a once strong working class to impoverished dependency.
Where in fact, they richly deserve to be scorned and impoverished themselves, and to have to perform hard labor until their dying day. The ruination they have tried to inflict on the rest of us.

For me this is called ‘Monday’.
That would be Woodyphobia..........
I’ll trade our gang banger and illegal alien problem for Japan’s hikikomori problem any day.
lol
As long as we don’t have to have an endless parade of songs on the topic like in the 80s, you can do whatever you want in there.

I think you read too much into it. Not everybody likes people, and in this modern world anybody that doesn’t like people can generally avoid them pretty well. With home officing, and ordering stuff off the internet a person can be a pretty hardcore shut in and still live fairly comfortably. The only hard part is developing relationships, but even that can be done. Nobody has to be sexually dysfunctional because of the government or Hollywood to not like people.
Mmm, maybe not Manchuria, but they're not real happy with North Korea at the moment. If that goes hot, i would not be surprised to see Japanese Troops coming over the mountains in the East of Korea and giving Kim Jong Il's boys Excedrine headache #.223
My interpretation reads far too little of it, compared to what the Japanese think. It seems there is no consensus, but lots of opinion.

From my point of view, I was more concerned with the American version, because our society is ripe for the equivalent phenomenon.
Right now, America’s “real” unemployment rate is 22% or greater. So why aren’t the streets full of homeless and destitute people?
