Pentagon Eyes Accused Analyst Over WikiLeaks Data
Wall Street Journal ^ | JULY 26, 2010 | JULIAN E. BARNES

WASHINGTON—Military investigators are checking computers used by Bradley Manning, a U.S. Army intelligence analyst charged this month with leaking classified information, to see if he is the source of thousands of military documents published Sunday by WikiLeaks.

The material released by WikiLeaks relates entirely to the war in Afghanistan, while Spc. Manning was stationed in Iraq. But investigators are trying to determine what material he was able to get access to and what material he transferred.

Col. Dave Lapan, a Pentagon spokesman, said investigators are looking broadly to determine where the material was taken from, but acknowledged that Spc. Manning was a person of interest in the investigation. "He is someone we are looking at closely," Col. Lapan said.

The person who leaked these top secret documents, as well as the people who published them, should be tried for treason. And if found guilty, they should be shot.

Publishing them is protected. The person that should be hanged is the guy that released them (which you do rightly call for his execution).

-—”Hang ‘em high!!”-—

How I wish. The Founders would have done it with their own hands.

In reality, if this does not BEGIN with a Court-Marshall, Dishonorable Discharge, and criminal trial, then there is simply no way for the Administration to deny complicity.

As for the administration, we won't get anything investigated while the Democrats have a three-house monopoly. Maybe after November.......

Remember: with this administration, the buck stop with........Bush.

Afganistan is populated by crazed illiterate Muslims. Their national game is played with a dead goat. Our supply lines are controlled by Muslims. Whay are we in there with anything more than special ops and long range air? Why would we want to ‘nation build’ in this place? Our only goal should of been to wipe out Bin Ladin and we blew that deal. I say this is going to be Obamas Viet-Nam. Let’s get the main troops out and only keep special forces.

Manning allegedly previously released videos of two airstrikes.

Per Wikipedia:

Manning allegedly told journalist and former hacker Adrian Lamo via instant messenging that he had leaked the "Collateral Murder" video (of the July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike), in addition to a video of the Granai airstrike and around 260,000 diplomatic cables, to the whistleblower website Wikileaks.[5][6] Lamo handed the instant messenger chat logs to U.S. investigators, who began searching for evidence to determine whether Manning's apparent statements to Lamo were true.[3] The "Collateral Murder" video showed an attack by a U.S. helicopter crew on a group of men presumed to be insurgents. Two children were wounded, and several men were killed, including the father of the children and two men who were later identified as Reuters employees.[2][7][8] Manning reportedly said that the diplomatic documents expose "almost criminal political back dealings" and that they explain "how the first world exploits the third, in detail".[9][10] He said that he hoped the release of the videos and documents would lead to "worldwide discussion, debates, and reforms".[11] Manning reportedly wrote, "everywhere there’s a U.S. post, there’s a diplomatic scandal that will be revealed."[5] However, Wikileaks said "allegations in Wired that we have been sent 260,000 classified US embassy cables are, as far as we can tell, incorrect".[

Too bad you cannot separate the data which the Government hides because it makes them look incompetent from the data that is sensitive militarily. At the same time, I guess exposing incompetence also helps the enemy. I guess the only good news is that most of this is low level Secret information and not Top Secret like Daniel Ellsberg released.

In WW II the public was allowed little information about the war but that was OK since the government was in to win. With subsequent wars like Vietnam, however, where a lot of men are dying in a war run poorly where victory was never clear, you are almost doing the fighting man a favor by exposing the sheer incompetence of the military.

Publishing them is protected.

Absolutely. They should not however be protected from prosecution for not revealing their sources.

"Manning is a slight, boyish-looking son of divorced parents from Crescent, Okla., population 1,400. His Facebook page shows him smiling, with stylish, upswept hair and a stated affinity for gay-rights groups including Repeal the Ban, which seeks to end the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy on homosexuals serving in the U.S. military."

I’d ask you what kind of organization you had in mind — but then you might have to name it! SOMETHING or SOMEONE should make the guilty parties pay...
