Says No Evidence Supports Charges by Right-Wingers That Obama Admin. Refuses to Prosecute Blacks for Breaking Vote Laws

(CBS) A Bush appointee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights denounced allegations by some pundits that the Justice Department is refusing to pursue a voting rights case against members of the New Black Panther Party because of race, and suggested that the charges being made by right-wing figures are politically motivated.
Conservative broadcasters and websites have claimed that the Obama administration is dropping prosecution of New Black Panther activists who were videotaped outside a Philadelphia polling station on Election Day 2008, making intimidating remarks; one man was carrying a nightstick.
Earlier this month former Justice Department lawyer and Republican activist J. Christian Adams testified to the commission that senior officials in the department are not applying voting rights laws in a race-neutral way, by refusing to press charges against African Americans on these issues.
A recent Media Matters investigation has debunked charges that the Obama administration withdrew criminal charges against the Panthers (in fact, the Bush administration decided not to pursue criminal charges, with Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez testifying that the Bush Justice Department "determined that the facts did not constitute a prosecutable violation of the criminal statutes"; a civil lawsuit was filed in the last days of the Bush administration, and a judgment won by the Obama Justice Department in May 2009).

Having explored the issue of McCarthy at some length, it is fascinating to see that the tactics and alliances of the Left are no different today than they were in 1950.
They Left villified McCarthy for speaking the truth, and they covered up and defended communists and Marxists back then exactly the same way they do now.
They just don't get it, or don't want to get it.
I beginning to think that a significant number of RINOs are plants. I know that sounds a bit ‘tin foil hat’ oriented, but I think we ignore these possibilities at our own risk. The recent Russian spy case illustrates one thing definitively. Covert operations against the US are alive and well.

Ruling Class determines what laws mean, and which laws will be enforced in whatever way they see fit.
Even IF it were true, the Obama admin had an opportunity to correct the injustice. They passed - because they are led by a lawless man.
Because the left is the side of “more government”. When the right gets into office they almost have to say “Ok, now that we’re here, lets cut as much as possible so we might not be needed anymore!”
Smaller government is better but try selling that to the people who actually would be cut if / when the size of government shrank. Especially when it’s they who write the darn rules!
Ever notice how when government needs to get cut the first thing they go after are cops, firemen, teachers etc...? It’s never the beauraucrats (sp?) that need to get cut. No. They are in place...in the shadows...safe...forever.
They could have done their own investigation, but probably decided that Media Matters has a more credible track record that CBS itself.
Huh? Unless I missed something and all the articles I've read just fail to mention it the suspects were never charged. Therefore the evidence has never been presented to a Judge. How could it have been thrown out?

Maybe not clear that these were “black Republicans “ that turned away judging from this piece, but being a predominately black neighborhood raises the odds that they were black, regardless of affiliation.
Why would someone who agrees with them (aka Democrat voter)turn away?
The case was tried (defendants never showed) and a ruling was made. This all happened in May, I believe. Then, this horrendous decision to drop the case.
If the defense didn’t show, then they couldn’t have made a motion to have the evidence thrown out, so how was the evidence thrown out?
Abigal is getting senile. She needs to retire with Pat Robinson. Otherwise, they should be truthful and admit she is a racist liberal.

Black Panthers had wielded weapons, blocked polls”

SNIPPET: “Justice Department political appointees overruled career lawyers and ended a civil complaint accusing three members of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense of wielding a nightstick and intimidating voters at a Philadelphia polling place last Election Day, according to documents and interviews.
The incident - which gained national attention when it was captured on videotape and distributed on YouTube - had prompted the government to sue the men, saying they violated the 1965 Voting Rights Act by scaring would-be voters with the weapon, racial slurs and military-style uniforms.
Career lawyers pursued the case for months, including obtaining an affidavit from a prominent 1960s civil rights activist who witnessed the confrontation and described it as “the most blatant form of voter intimidation” that he had seen, even during the voting rights crisis in Mississippi a half-century ago.”

SNIPPET: “A poll watcher who provided an affidavit to prosecutors in the case noted that Bartle Bull, who worked as a civil rights lawyer in the south in the 1960’s and is a former campaign manager for Robert Kennedy, said it was the most blatant form of voter intimidation he had ever seen.
In his affidavit, obtained by FOX News, Bull wrote “I watched the two uniformed men confront voters and attempt to intimidate voters. They were positioned in a location that forced every voter to pass in close proximity to them. The weapon was openly displayed and brandished in plain sight of voters.”
He also said they tried to “interfere with the work of other poll observers ... whom the uniformed men apparently believed did not share their preferences politically,” noting that one of the panthers turned toward the white poll observers and said “you are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker.””
