Can diplomats field their own army? The State Department is laying plans to do precisely that in Iraq, in an unprecedented experiment that U.S. officials and some nervous lawmakers say could be risky.
In little more than a year, State Department contractors in Iraq could be driving armored vehicles, flying aircraft, operating surveillance systems, even retrieving casualties if there are violent incidents and disposing of unexploded ordnance.
Under the terms of a 2008 status of forces agreement, all U.S. troops must be out of Iraq by the end of 2011, but they'll leave behind a sizable American civilian presence,

How’s that going to work? The State Department is usually opposed to Amercan interests.
It is designed to be an experiment in the effectiveness of an all homo fighting force.
Walking through the parking lot in the Green Zone it was interesting to see all the bullet holes in the SUV’s parked there.
“Can diplomats field their own army?”
Doesn’t that violate the Consti...never mind.
Troops out. Private army paid by taxpayers in.
I don’t see a win in this one.
Hee hee. One of the comments called obama “Urkel Mugabe”. I almost wet myself...

LOL to hear what those at Democratic Underground are saying... not only leave an army, but a civilian one without a structural authority? Oh man, what’s that sound? Popcorn?

Actually, Hillary would be perfect to lead the State Dept. troops in Iraq. As I recall during her campaign, she bragged about how, as First Lady, her plane landed under hostile conditions, and she had to duck and run from the plane once it landed, in order to avoid sniper fire. Oh, that’s right—she later said she “mis-spoke”.
This shows the fear and loathing the WH has for our security apparatus.
If General Clinton wants an army in Iraq then General Clinton needs to stay in theater... For as long as it takes
I’m not sure how receptive either the American people or the Iraqi people will be of this.
Purely a political decision. We should keep the US military to provide force protection services. Obama wants to say he has removed all of the troops prior to the 2012 election. This puts our civilian personnel at risk and will cost much more than leaving the US military there. Some Americans are going to lose their lives because of it.
Hillary dreams of crossing the Potomac at the head of her legions.
