Government to impose new drilling ban today
Houston Chronicle via The Woodward Repor ^ | July 12, 2010

Posted on 07/12/2010 12:59:10 PM PDT by antiobamacare

The Obama administration is set today to impose a new ban on deep-water drilling -- this time carefully rewritten in hopes of solving the problems that prompted a federal court to toss out the first attempt.

An administration official confirmed the new moratorium -- likely to come in the form of a "notice to lessees" -- will be issued later today. The new directive is expected to replace NTL No. 4, the May 30 order that imposed the moratorium first announced by President Barack Obama three days earlier.

The administration has lost three bids to preserve the ban in federal courts, where it has so far been successfully challenged by Hornbeck Offshore Services and oil services companies. On June 22, a federal district judge tossed out the moratorium, saying the administration had overreached with a "blanket" ban on all drilling in water depths of at least 500 feet.

Two days later, the same judge rejected the administration's request to reinstate the moratorium while the government appealed the ruling. And on July 8, a three-judge panel of the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed, also refusing to reinstate the ban in the meantime.

According to a summary of the new order obtained by Hearst Newspapers and the Houston Chronicle, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar's new ban -- technically a suspension of deep-water drilling activities -- would apply until Nov. 30, unless he decides to lift it earlier. The Interior Department is citing its authority under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act in imposing the four-month suspension.

In effect, the new suspension is largely a repeat of the May 30 order that halted drilling on 33 deep-water projects in the Gulf of Mexico -- even though it is written with new nuance and detail...

Again, Obama proves that he is nothing more than a sick b*****d... ravaging the little guy to the point that he must beg the government for a few rancid scraps to survive. If only Americans were denied the right to bear firearms, the Agenda could “progress” so much more neatly and quickly. Bob

no its not insanity.

Its a multi-pronged strategy designed to accomplish several goals namely:
1) Give the edge to 0Bommer's sugar daddy George Soros* (see additional notes at the end)
2) By waiting 70 days before accepting foreign assistance to help with the cleanup this gave adequate time for the damage to be done and thus the enviro-wackos can say "see how evil & bad oil drilling is for your environment!!"
3) With offshore oil drilling shutdown this creates more unemployment (up to 1,650,000 directly & indirectly) and artificially creates all these welfare dependents needing govt assistance
4) With less oil being produced in the USA it drives up the price of energy which is the great desire of the liberals since they want this as a catalyst to force the country to move to these ultra-expensive green energy sources (solar, wind, etc) which cost up to 8x per kilowatt and are highly vulnerable to the effects of weather.

George Soros is fully the puppet master behind ALL the 0boma does. Soros is the sum total of all those evil geniuses seen in the James Bond flicks who are doing evil schemes to harm the world. However I digress, Soros owns an 1/3 stake in the Brazil oil company Petronas and with this drilling ban in place all those oil drilling platforms becomes idled!! However these expensive platforms are expensive and cost up to $1 million per day to operate and with thousands of them being idled, the owners of them needs to be making money or losing their shirts. So Soros simply asks 0bama to literally give him the platforms with the stroke of a pen banning oil drilling in the gulf and thousands of them fall into his hands which is diverted to Brazil and his 1/3 stake worth $900 Millions and makes a killing at the American Taxpayers expense. Oh btw, if thats not enough ine of the 1st thing 0boma did when taking office was to give Brazil a LOAN for $2 BILLION for their oil development!!

So kill our American oil production while lending to a foreign country and helping them in every which way possible - even at the expense of the environment, jobs and oil security!!

This is why I’m leery of the “hope for change in November” crowd... I do NOT trust our elections to be far nor honest, and I do not expect those in power to willingly relinquish it.

The administration also is expected to make the case that the industry is ill-equipped to respond to a blowout in deep water -- as evidenced by the nearly three months that oil has been flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. In legal briefs, the administration also has stressed that essential resources to clean up and contain another spill -- from chemical dispersants to boom -- are tied up with the BP disaster, making them unavailable if another spill happened soon.

Why stop there? The Ixtoc blowout shows that the industry is ill-equipped to handle a shallow water blowout too, since that lasted 14 months. Though unless the order mentions some review board that is actually reviewing methods and has a deadline to present a report prior to the expiration of the temporary suspension, I've the feeling the same judge is going to overturn this one as well.

If there’s any federal judge that would jail Salazar for this I believe it would be Judge Martin Feldman and I’m sure hoping he will at least try.

The coming lame duck session will be more brutal than anyone can imagine. We will long for the freedom experienced by Eastern Europe in the '70s.

Stock up, you're gonna need it.

If at first you don’t succeed . . . . . throw MORE taxpayer money in the trash so that you can get your way with your temper tantrum!!

And, how does zero plan to deal with the massive unemployment his “ban” will cause? More “evidence” of an economy headed in the “right” direction!!??

Please . . . . . . spare me this communists’ plans to destroy the country that he and $oro$ hate so much!!

This new ban might not be dealt with by Judge Feldman. A new petition for injunctive relief may be warranted, not just additional pleadings in the previous case. Any lawyers out there know?

The judge who previously lifted the drilling ban should order Ken Salazar arrested immediately and brought to his courtroom on contempt charges. He can stay in jail for the duration of the new moratorium.

Put him in a cell with a couple of oil field workers who were laid off due to the drilling ban ...

OMG is there no end to the stupidity and insanity of this administration

We all need to get beyond this mindset,IMHO.

These statists/Marxists whatever, are anything but stupid. This is all planned, contrived, neatly sculpted. Its all a huge attack on free markets done a little bit at a time. And, whenever they can slide a big one in like 70% of the oil from the GOM which comes from deep water they don't hesitate.

These people are purposely attacking from within a once great country in order to bring it down. We need to face up to that.

On his radio show today, Rush said that the owner of one rig is already in the process of moving it to waters off the coast of Egypt.

Apparently, the rig owner thinks Obama will eventually get his way and he, the rig owner, is tired of being in limbo.
