The House voted 270-153 to restore benefits for more than 1 million people whose payments ran out in early June. The measure would extend the federal long-term jobless aid program through November and retroactively restore benefits to eligible people.
But the Senate has rejected several attempts to extend jobless benefits amid worries about record budget deficits, and it is not scheduled to address the issue again until mid-July.

In case anyone missed it yesterday, the Democrats are saying they will NOT take the money from last year's almost trillion dollar "stimulus" program because... get ready .... they were saving that money for "job creation".
My question to that was, sooooooo when would be a good time for job creation?
However, I do not wish to pay anybody unemployment benefits for an extended period of time. We are keeping our business going with personal savings and retirement benefits. We haven't had a vacation in 12 years. We've never had a two-week vacation. In other words, I have limited sympathy for the plight of the unemployed after a few weeks. Quit whining and get cracking.
The stupid party and the “Compassionate Conservatives” here must live down to the stereotype of being heartless and, well, stupid, don’t they. After all, stereotypes are usually true. There is plenty of pork to cut, the unemployment benefits are a drop in a bucket, and the job market really does look dismal there. Oh, and the RATS, not even trying very hard, find an easy way to make themselves look good and win.
I have a lot going on right now, plus my unemployment benefits ran out suddenly, which leaves me looking for work.
Crazy notion?
Look for Congress to suddenly discover a huge demand for "community organizers" and "outreach programs" around October. The demand for these services will magically vanish on Nov. 3.
Who is whining? I have never received unemployment benefits and never will. And at over 300 jobs applied to, I think I can safely say I've taken a crack at it.

That would be the preferred thing, of course. But until those jobs get created, even if it was (by some miracle) in a month or two, unemployed workers still need to eat and make payments on their abodes.
I know a lot of guys (mid- to upper-level management, IT pros, etc.) most of them in their 40s and 50s, who’ve been let go because their salaries were too high compared to cheaper youngsters and visa holders. Some of them have been pounding the pavement for over a year with no luck. Unemployment barely pays for the utility bills and food in some cases,
At least two of them have told me that they’ve been they’ve been turned down for even entry-level and sales clerk jobs because the management says, “We won’t hire you because you’ll just leave when the economy improves.” These guys want to work - that defines who they are.
One of my neighbors - this is not a joke - who has been out of work for 18 months got so depressed he tried to kill himself last week. His wife found him unconscious in the bathroom after having taken a whole lot of pills. I found out after asking about all the ambulances in front of their house last Saturday.
One of my friends has asked his high-school graduate son (just graduated with my own boy) to postpone college and get a job to help out. Apparently my friend had been using credit card advances to cover the bills. Now he can’t get hired because credit checks get run against him - one employer told him he was a “bad risk” because of his debt load. So the family figured that the son has no credit score, can get a job and bring home a steady paycheck.
It makes me think of the way my family lived 125 or 100 years ago; the census records showed that the adult sons would stay home with the parents and contribute to the household expenses.
Maybe we’re going back to that model - two, three, even four generations of adults and children living in one house. I’d better soundproof my bedroom if my son isn’t leaving anytime soon!
After which they can probably apply for welfare and the additional benefits?

Welcome to the U. S. S. A. There is no longer something known as unemployment. That concept has now been replaced by a guaranteed income.
Really? Getting 500 bucks a week or 50K a year. Not really a great equal if you ask me. I don’t believe for a minute that people are thrilled with being out of work. Very few are...maybe some recent high school grads. People think that people are just relaxing enjoying their extremely small unemployment checks. Sometimes I wonder if some here live in reality.
You get more of what you pay for.
