It is truly sad and disgusting to see how the NRA has sold out over the past half-dozen years. They were truly a great organization when they were the only group with the cajones to take on Billy Boy the Rapist and his gang of thugs in the 90s.

FReeper NRA members need to make their feelings known, including canceling their memberships if necessary and joining GOA instead. We have a golden opportunity to get rid of Dingy Harry and replace him with a true conservative.

Don't let the NRA sell you out!

I am a Patron level Life Member of the NRA. If they endorse Reid, I’ll quit.

I don’t understand why the NRA would do this? Of course, I never understood why the Catholic Church supported Democrats over pro-life Republicans either. Why in the world would the NRA think that Reid would be true to his word and not support Democratic laws removing guns from regular citizens? I am beginning to wonder about paybacks and possibly information about the NRA’s top people. I guess I am getting too jaded.

The NRA has emailed 3 separate explanations for their Disclose Act position to me and no doubt to millions of other members. One I received on 6/18 was from Chris Cox. It stated that the NRA, being a single issue organization, did what it considered best for its membership and its continued ability to defend the 2nd amendment. In short, the NRA sold out the rights and liberty of the American people, making a deal with the devil, in order to be exempt from the lefts’ underhanded attempt to get around a Supreme Court decision. I consider this sleazy and contemptible to say the least. I informed the NRA that I would NOT be renewing my membership or the insurance I currently carry through them. The fact that the NRA has issued so many explanatory statements indicates that I’m not alone in my decision. The NRA has done a great deal to help secure the God given, 2nd amendment supported rights of American citizens. But I cannot abide selling out the rights of millions. No one at the NRA will lose sleep over the loss of my membership income. But I DO hope tens of thousands of other members share my beliefs and will follow my example.

I checked the NRA-ILA website for info on this rumor. No news, but I did go back into the past election cycle ratings section.

In 2004, Harry Reid got a B and his opponent, Richard Ziser, got an A. NRA-ILA did not endorse a candidate in that race.

Down the page on that 2004 ratings page, I see that Sharron Angle was rated A by NRA-ILA, and endorsed, for her NV State Assembly race that year.

I was an NRA-EVC (not a paid position, BTW) for a number of years, and was sometimes surprised to see "no endorsement" on a number of pro-gun challengers in races where they were up against squishy, weak on RKBA incumbents. The NRA-ILA explanation to me was that while the challenger answered the questionnaire the right way, he/she was an unknown when it came to voting for RKBA laws; when the challenger had not held a lower office prior to running in the particular race in which an endorsement was not given. Their rationale then was that anybody can say anything on a questionnaire. In their ratings/endorsements decision process, sometimes the squishy, weak on RKBA, enemy we know (and can squeeze to our advantage on some issues) is better than the enemy we don't know, who may have lied (imagine that, a politician lying) on the questionnaire.

With the Reid vs. Angle race this year, Sharron Angle has a track record as a state legislator. Whether NV has had state RKBA legislation with which they can judge her record, I am not aware; as I am not a NV resident.

In this case I have to wonder if maybe these rumors, about "gag rules" on BOD members re Kagan, endorsing Harry Reid over Sharron Angle, NRA selling out over Disclose Act, etc., are being put out there by the Obama Chicago 'Rat machine to hurt NRA membership numbers.

That wouldn't surprise me.

I just called their Legislative Action hotline and they claim they have not endorsed Reid. They said that Angle has an “A” rating and Reid a “B” (!) and that they haven’t endorsed a “B” in the past. The kid sounded a little evasive/mushy so it would be my advice that they get crushed by our response and that we should not let up until the NRA publicly announces that it will not endorse Reid.

Sounds like the left has turned the conrner on dismantling the NRA-and to me it sounds like from the inside-all of you “loyal members for years etc” are swallowing everything you hear, most of it out of context. If the NRA loses momentum, it will be because of a good PR attack on it focused towards its membership.

If LaPeierre and Cox are sell-outs, then the board must do the right thing and push them aside.

I agree-the article giving Reid a bye was a travesty, DISCLOSE is pure unadulterated unconstitutional fodder, and if this full endorsement of Reid is in fact to be, then we, the constituent membership of the NRA, MUST change it, not leave it! That is what the left wants, even if they are not actively doing it...

Steadfast, stalwarts, dig in for the long haul.

All said, I really do wonder how many of you who declare yor intent to flee, actually are/were dues paying voting memebrs? Probably a small percentage.

Best;

Of course I ripped off another email right to the NRA and this is the response I got specifically on this issue:

Thank you for contacting NRA-ILA regarding the recent rumor that NRA-PVF has indicated they will endorse Harry Reid.

Regarding any potential endorsement of Sen. Reid in the upcoming elections, NRA-PVF has not yet announced any ratings or endorsements in this race. Ratings and endorsements will be determined closer to the election. It is important to note, however, that the NRA is a single issue organization and that when our ratings and endorsements are announced, they are based solely on a candidate’s support for, or opposition to, our Second Amendment rights. Other issues, as important as they may be to many people, do not and cannot play any role in those decisions. NRA represents a broad coalition of American gun owners, who are bound together by their support for the right to keep and bear arms.

In 2004, Senator Reid was rated “B” in his reelection by the NRA Political Victory Fund. Since then, as U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Senator Reid has proven himself to be a supporter of our Second Amendment rights. It would be accurate to say that few, if any, of NRA’s legislative victories in Congress during the last six years would have occurred without his active support.

As an example, he was instrumental in Senate passage (and eventual enactment into law) of the “Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act” (PLCAA)”, which shut down reckless lawsuits against gun manufacturers and dealers that attempted to hold them liable for the misuse of firearms by criminals. Sen. Reid also cosponsored S. 659 (PLCCA) in the 108th Congress and voted against “poison pill” amendments to it, including the Feinstein Amendment to renew the federal ban on so-called “assault weapons”, and the Kennedy Amendment that would have banned most hunting ammunition.
I tinkered with this to make it more effective

Following Hurricane Katrina, he voted for legislation, that is now federal law, to prohibit gun confiscation during states of emergency. He also voted for legislation to allow commercial airline pilots to be armed in the cockpit to protect their passengers and crew. In this congressional session, Sen. Reid voted for the Ensign Amendment to repeal Washington D.C.’s gun ban and restore self-defense rights in our nation’s capital. He cosponsored similar legislation—S. 1414—in the 108th Congress. He also voted for an amendment to allow law-abiding citizens to carry firearms for self-defense in national parks and wildlife refuges. This federal policy change just took effect on February 22.

Early last year, Sen. Reid emphatically stated that he would oppose any effort to reinstate an “assault weapons” ban if the Senate were to vote on it in the future. In addition, he voted last year for the Thune-Vitter Amendment to provide national reciprocity for state Right-to-Carry permits. He also voted twice for the Wicker Amendment allowing Amtrak passengers to include firearms in their checked luggage. These votes were possible only because of Senator Reid’s actions in his capacity as Senate Majority Leader. Finally, he was among the 58 Senators who signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief in the McDonald v. Chicago case, argued before the U.S. Supreme Court on March 2nd, which will decide whether the Second Amendment applies to all states and localities.

Most recently, the NRA worked with Sen. Reid to include in his manager’s amendment to the health care reform bill a provision that prohibits the disclosure or collection of information relating to the lawful ownership, use or storage of firearms or ammunition and also prohibits lawful gun ownership, possession and use from being used as a factor to determine eligibility or premium rates for health insurance. This provision was adopted on December 22, 2009 and was included in this legislation when it was signed into law on March 23.

Finally, Senator Reid is opposed to any anti-gun treaties that might come before the U.S. Senate for ratification.

These are a few examples of Senator Reid’s support and leadership on Second Amendment issues. Given the Senate could vote on gun-related issues in the coming months, rest assured any votes will be considered in future candidate evaluations.Regarding NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox recently attending the grand opening of the Clark County Shooting Park (CCSP) with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and other Nevada elected officials.

The CCSP is the largest shooting park in the world. This 2,900-acre state-of-the-art facility is devoted entirely to the shooting sports and is the nation’s premier shooting park. As the nation’s largest shooting sports organization, the NRA’s presence at the ribbon-cutting ceremony should come as no surprise. NRA actively worked with several Members of the Nevada congressional delegation, including Senator Reid, to ensure that this range was built. The development and construction of the CCSP has the full bipartisan support of the Nevada congressional delegation, and Nevada’s Republican Governor.

Senator Reid was instrumental in arranging not only the transfer of the then-federal lands to Clark County where the Park is located, but also in securing $61 million in funding to develop and build the Park. The Clark County Shooting Park would not have been built without his active efforts and support.

Once again, thank you for your inquiry.

Sincerely,
Susan Christman

AND FOR ALL YOU IGNORANT ANTIGUN NRA HATING IDIOTS:

1. The NRA didn’t become a lobbying group until 1974.

2. While whiners complain about mail, guys like me get out the checkbook.

3. The NRA fought against Parker, not Heller. That’s because Parker was filed before Roberts and Alito. We would have lost. The NRA knows how to count to the number nine.

4. The goa has never done a single thing in it’s entire history. It’s the NRA and the SAF that filed all those lawsuits.

5. The “R” in the NRA stands for rifle. Not Republican. Get rid of Reid AFTER taking control of Congress or you’ll be whining about gun control and pleading for the NRA again. As always.

6. The antigunners hate the NRA just as much as some freepers. That explains the mentality of some freepers.

7. The media doesn’t know the name of any progun group other than the NRA. That should tell you something but you’re too stupid to understand.

8. The goa is the only gun group that asked the Supreme Court to take the narrow view. So far, they haven’t filed a single lawsuit to take responsibility for their actions. It’s the NRA and the SAF that filed all those lawsuits.

9. Lazy, stupid people always have an excuse not to get involved.

Tell me a single thing the goa has ever done on their own.

McDonald vs. Chicago. Nope, SAF.

Katrina victims? Nope, NRA.

Winnetka Lawsuits? Nope, SAF and NRA

Morton Grove Lawsuit? Nope, NRA.

San Francisco? Nope, NRA

Evanston? Nope, NRA and SAF

Parker? Nope, Robert Levy and it’s a good thing the case became Heller with Roberts and Alito or we would have lost. That’s why the NRA tried to stop it.

Heller? Nope, Levy again.

United Nations attacks? Nope, NRA as a Non Government Organization.

Free legal support for their members? Nope, NRA.

Even Basil’s Second Amendment Sisters give women’s classes

JPFO? They aren’t even a lobbying group.

Who does the leftist media fear? I’ll give you a hint, the initials are NRA.

NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN WHAT THE goa HAS EVER DONE ON THEIR OWN IN THEIR ENTIRE HISTORY. NO ONE.

The NRA was an institution ripe for infiltration and take over by the left. They will turn it into something totally unrelated to gun rights. Did anyone expect the left to leave any of these institutions alone? How Naive can you be? I am willing to bet the military is rife with their agents and people they promoted when in power. Trust no one should be our motto.
