Rod Blagojevich eyed Oprah Winfrey for seat
By: Andy Barr June 28, 2010 12:56 PM EDT
Former Illinois Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich considered naming Oprah Winfrey to President Barack Obamas Senate seat.
Nobody would assail this pick, Blagojevich said of potentially naming Oprah to the seat, according to a taped conversation of the former governor made public Monday as part of his ongoing corruption trial.
She's a kingmaker
she made Obama, Blagojevich saidnof Oprah, who endorsed Obama during the presidential primaries.
Blagojevich is accused of trying to sell or trade Obamas Senate seat for a high profile position in Washington, but the tapes revealed Monday indicate he was also assessing whom to appoint if a deal did not come through.
Blagojevich is heard telling his then-chief of staff that he wanted a black politician to replace Obama, though he says he would like to avoid naming Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) to the Senate seat in order to not give Jackson an advantage in running for reelection.

Putting Oprah in the Senate would have been a disaster...for many reasons.
In a biography of her I heard that she originally was hired as a newscaster at a TV station, but she just couldn't read well enough to handle it. They moved her to a local talk show, where she excelled in off-the-cuff material.
If she had went into the Senate, we would have added a "can't read" to a bunch of "won't reads", and the bills would never get read.
Also, as a celebrity, her whacky leftist ideas would have garnered more then their due if they were judged on content and substance. It would have turned the Senate into more of a party train than it already is.
We have a president that reads well, but can't talk without a teleprompter, and she would be an ad-lib talker who can't read. God forbid.

Having just let slip that she’d FABRICATED (aka LIED ABOUT) much of her childhood history, she’d be THE PERFECT DEMONRAT CANDIDATE!!

I wouldn’t eye Oprah for her seat even after she lost all that weight before gaining it back.

Well, they already have Al Frankenweenie. How much worse can Oprah be?(not that I in any way would want to see it)

Whom do you think Blagojevich should have appointed? I think that he should have chosen William Daley. He would have said that Daley is well-qualified, since he was a U.S. secretary of commerce. The other reason that Blagojevich would have chosen Daley is to persuade Mayor Daley to support Blagojevich’s policies and next campaign.
