NRO ^ | Daniel Foster

Posted on 06/24/2010 1:46:50 PM PDT by OldDeckHand

The House just passed the DISCLOSE Act, by a vote of 219-206. As with so much in this Congress, the only thing bipartisan about the bill was the opposition to it.

That is the problem with right-of-center groups. They will sell each other out for an immediate gain while the leftists seem to go in lockstep.

Here’s your October surprise, 4 months early. This WILL be used to shut down conservative voices campaigning for November candidates.

IIRC it has something to do with disclosing, exposing major campaign donors. I recall thinking it was a political “GOTCHA” type thing. It was thought to be DOA last I read about it, but obviously it wasn’t.

I’ll have to look it up again as I thought it was by the board and wiped it out of the old memory banks.

I do not believe that even McCain will go along with this Bill.

"I must be losing it. I could have sworn this was killed a few days back."

You're not. It was pulled from the floor by Pelosi late last week. It reemerged (I think) on Tuesday, and passed today. Very sneaky.

As someone pointed out, while we were busy with the spill, McChrystal and even the World Cup, Nancy was plotting. They continue to play chess, and we play with ourselves. (by we, I mean the GOP, of course).

Don’t forget, it passed with bi-partisan support. Both Joseph Cao (R, Louisiana) and Mike Castle (R, Delware) voted for the bill. Boehner just can’t keep all his guys in line, and there are only about 170 of them.

Don't bet on it. This is the Dems response to the SCOTUS overturning parts of McCain/Feingold.

"Mike Castle (R, Delware) voted for the bill. "

Terrific. It appears no matter who wins the Delaware Senate election, they'll be sending a Democrat to Washington.

The bad thing is that we’ve got to send people to DC with an R behind their name if we’re going to let Rep Issa clean house via the House Ethics Committee. They’ve got us over a barrel, unless we can come up with decent primary results so the “R” actually means something besides a “D”.

Unfortunately true. However, Piglosi needs to lose her "Lord of the Flies" job so, hopefully there are more R's in November.

"...This would essentially kill fundraising and contributions from grassroots groups (it’s aimed at the Tea Party movement)..."

And bring harassment and intimidation on them. Think the SEIU only wants to show up at banker's homes? Scary times ahead. This bill endangers donors who have a right to privacy and anonymity.

Not too long ago homosexual activists targeted businesses and individuals in California for supporting Prop 8 and God ordained marriage.

Remember this from 2008?

“Prop. 8 donors appear on pro-homosexual ‘blacklists’”

SCOTUS will strike it down and fast.

Like McCain Feingold? Yah that was fast.
