Laura Wojcik's little girl, Elizabeth, is due Saturday. So imagine her surprise when she learned she'd have to find another doctor for the delivery and find one in just one day.
"I was pretty upset because I love going here and everything. They're good doctors, and then I had to change," said Wojcik.
A doctor from the Norwich OB-GYN Group will be on call this weekend, but inside the office, the waiting room is empty, and there are no doctors in the exam rooms. The office stopped taking patients Thursday when it decided it could no longer meet the financial demands of running the practice.
"We've had a reduction in reimbursement from the state-funded insurances, because the budget situation, things had slowed down, so April, May were very slow, and June continued to be slow," said Bernadette Grecki, the practice administrator.
Add to that the payments from the largest state-funded insurance provider wouldn't be arriving till July, and the office says it had no choice but to close.
"It was too much for the doctor. He realized he couldn't keep funding the practice," said Grecki.
The group says it is working with other OB-GYN's in the area to accommodate patients, and the files of pregnant patients who are at 32 weeks or more have already been transferred to Backus Hospital, so doctors will be prepared when the women go into labor.

I believe that a plumber makes more than a doctor also. Heck, if you are a heavy equipment operator you will make more than most docs.
Obama said you could keep your Doctor...
Well, my Muslim friend who I debated with over healthcare, who also voted for O, said these doctors who quit should be rounded up and killed. My jaw dropped when he said that in resonse to my point that doctors will quit if the plan passes.
The people who voted for this will blame the doctors.
To all the women who voted for Obama, you might have to put off having that baby for a while, years maybe if you value your health.
Think of it this way. In 2015, the federal government will be doing all prostate exams.
We need a Pic of Uncle sam with a rubber golve asking America to bend over.
If he was clearing $400k per year he would not quit. Private practices are a small buisness. Even if a Doc actually cleared $400k, there is still a payroll to meet, insurance for staff, medical liability insurance for those who provide care, rent/mortgage, utilities, etc. $400k is not so much after all that.
Atlas at work!
The price of Obama care will be a few dead mothers. Once women begin to die in child birth he will be drug bodily from the White House.
So how is he ever going to survive if he’s not raking in over $400K a year anymore?

Pay a RN and at least 1 (probably 2) office workers out of that and then add in the fixed costs of rent/power and insurance which can be hundreds of thousands ... pretty soon it’s not so much ... This is why doctors are leaving private practice for sweet gigs like with the VA where you have no overhead or insurance costs ..
When did this person's annual income become your business, Willie? Shouldn't he be able to bring in as much as the market allows? If you don't like it, you don't have to visit his practice!
That's the cool thing about the free market. You can choose to go to this doctor, or you can choose another. Of course, socialists like you want to put an end to those capitalistic shenanigans.
Well, when you have your Euro style medicine to go with your Euro style rail system, you won't have too long to enjoy it. Under socialism, those who don't produce aren't given a very high priority for medical care. Keep killing the golden goose, Willie; you won't have anyone to finance your train fetish.
Agree with every word of your rant.
So, Willie, in your ideology the doctor and his skills are property of the state. How dare he abandon his duties!
You shouldn't put up with this! I'll buy you a one-way ticket to Cuba where you can enjoy government owned and operated mass-transit and free healthcare! All you have to do is renounce your United States citizenship...
When did this person's annual income become your business, Willie? Shouldn't he be able to bring in as much as the market allows? If you don't like it, you don't have to visit his practice!
How am I suppose to visit his practice?
He shut it down because making less that $400K wasn't enough.
You need to redirect that anger. It isn’t the doctors lavish lifestyles driving up those costs, by and large. Look more toward the John Edward’s of the world.
You say this is your Muslim “friend?” I think I’d be reconsidering that friendship. That man/woman sounds a little frightening to me - “killing” doctors???? What is it about these Muslims and death. They literally worship death.
I might add, most physicians do not make $400,000 a year.
We're not talking about most physicians.
We're talking about cardiologists
The average yearly salary for cardiologists working in 2010 is $285,000 per year. This is a general median value whereas the mean value is closer to $300,000 per year. Most starting cardiologists with less than two years of experience can expect to earn closer to $200,000 as a salary, while more experienced cardiologists may earn upwards of $400,000 per year or even more when prestige comes into play.
So a mediocre cardiologist with limited experience makes "only" $300K... and I'm supposed to feel sorry for him because he can no longer slave in the rat race for those "meager" earnings?
Oh cry me a river!
So what??? What do expect them to do?? Work for the State???
Fortunately, beautiful Cuba awaits you. You'll get your government transportation and free health care while enjoying the jewel of the carribean!
Best of all, you'll be free of those greedy capitalists who have the audacity to charge a fair market price for their skills.
Incidentally, do you grasp the investment of time and wealth necessary for a degree in medicine before setting up a practice? The median level is 10 years and about 100K. Another poster tried to explain this to you. You didn't respond to her. Did you read her post?
Should their income not reflect the investment, Willie?
If you're bothered by the runaway cost of medical care you should push for tort reform and demand the government get out of hospital management. If you want more government in your life, please go to Cuba, Venezuela or Zimbabwe. Leave the rest of us to our liberty.
Remind me never to visit your practice, Dr. Green.
Perhaps you should have studied harder in school instead of dreaming of government cheese and other people's money (OPM). Class envy and Marxist temper tantrums won't absolve you of your own poor life choices.
My cardiologist spent years in college and medical school, on top of which he did and has done considerable “post-graduate” work (or whatever it’s called). He is on the faculty at the local university and elsewhere. Plus he spends time in his native India teaching doctors there. Anyway, this guy didn’t just fall off the turnip truck. I don’t know how much he makes (none of my business), but I don’t think there is a salary out there high enough this man. Saying he saved my life is an understatement. You can’t put a price on what he has done for me and his patients.
