BP Oil Spill: Against Gov. Jindal's Wishes, Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard
ABC ^ | 17 June 2010 | DAVID MUIR and BRADLEY BLACKBURN

Posted on 06/17/2010 4:24:50 PM PDT by Hoodat

Eight days ago, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered barges to begin vacuuming crude oil out of his state's oil-soaked waters. Today, against the governor's wishes, those barges sat idle, even as more oil flowed toward the Louisiana shore.

"It's the most frustrating thing," the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. "Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges."

Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.

"These barges work. You've seen them work. You've seen them suck oil out of the water," said Jindal.

So why stop now?

Simply unforgivable.

If life jackets were that big of a concern to the USCG - how about the USCG borrows them a few? They’re the effing COAST GUARD! They don’t have a few spare life jackets?

Even if they didn’t - how about you take a USCG vessel and hightail it to the shore and BUY THEM SOME DAMN LIFE JACKETS! These people are trying to clean up after a an epic disaster - how about we give them a little effing HELP?!?!?!

Barry must have given the order to make them stop.

Likely a federal permitting issue, or lack thereof.

This is absolutely criminal! LA wants to clean up the oil. Arizona wants to protect it’s border. The feds say “no” to LA, and plans to sue AZ!

WTH IS GOING ON IN DC???

The Coast Guard still has to answer for stopping the barges.

So far they don't have any good reasons for doing so, and it looks like their intention was to prevent people from cleaning up the oil.

The federal government has people in it who've been trying to get a major deep water oil well blowout going for a very long time. Now that they are in charge why shouldn't they also try to stop clean-up efforts?

These are your professional true-believing Leftwingtard ENVIRONMENTAL WHACKOS!

All we need are their names and some feathers. The tar is being prepared by Mother Nature as we speak!

This is the end

Beautiful friend

This is the end

My only friend, the end

.

Of our elaborate plans, the end

Of everything that stands, the end

No safety or surprise, the end

.

It is getting harder to read this stuff every day.

Jindel should put State Troopers on these barges and tell the feds or Coast Guard to stand down, that they will continue their efforts to protect their waterways. If the feds try to use force, then use force on them.

To me, this is war - the Constitution-breaking rogue federal Obama government against states united under the Constitution. Might as well start right here right now.

EPA has a problem with drillers using "brown mud" during well pipe sealing operations

It would not surprise me one iota if this whole spill was caused by the EPA trying to shakedown BP for funds via fines. They were probably hoping BP would use the safe (anti-regulation) way in order to wave their finger and hand over a bill. With a blowout, they create an anti-oil backlash. It's a win-win, as long as they stay quiet. (And I certainly haven't heard mention of the EPA ever since this happened. Odd, eh?) My personal experience with the EPA-holes goes back to Kuwait, where they made us use dry-sweep and scoop up even the smallest oil spill so that we didn't "contaminate the water table."

They really didn't appreciate me telling them "It's just trying to go home."

Heck of a job, Bammie!

Wow.
I don’t know anything about oil cleanup, but I am pretty good at reading people and it is clear to me every time I see Allen speak that he is being forced to say and do some things he finds reprehensible. He speaks with NO CONFIDENCE in what he is saying. I’m sure he has to go take a hot shower after being in front of a camer and lying his a$$ off!

Can you just imagine being in charge of this CLUSTER, taking orders from someone who clearly WANTS to make things worse?

There is no freaking reason they should have stopped those barges! What would have happened if the barges refused to stop? IT is going to come to that sooner or later.

This is total BS.

I had a full blown Vessel Safety Inspection done on my boat by a Coast Guard Auxiliaryman in May. It covered a lot more than just life vests and fire extinguishers, and it took all of about 20 minutes.

This is Washington doing a slapdown of Governor Jindal.

The Coast Guard people who are going along with this should be publicly identified and ridiculed.

Incompetence? Or malevolence? Which is it?

Start with a communist street agitator (aka "community organizer") who's still a devoted communist, bitterly hates America and Americans, is a deep, bitter, virulent, secret Mudslime, and isn't a citizen, and complete malevolence is the conclusion.

Thad Allen left as Commandant in May. Didn’t take long to piss away all the good will the USCG got from Katrina. To be fair, during Katrina, Thad Allen was the dictator. W gave Allen a free hand down there.

Now Allen is working for zero, as a lame duck too. No more free hand.

This, however, is stupid.

Yes, this was all headline news in my local lib rag. They’re just outraged that Obama turned down Jindal’s pleas and refused the offer of other coutnries to help stem the er tide of oil. Of course, I’m lying. My local lib rag would never print anything that would show Obama for what he truly is.
