New Jersey Politicians Want A List of NRA Members and their Employers!

Friday, June 11, 2010

In a blatant attempt by entrenched New Jersey politicians to strong arm citizens who oppose their re-election, Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-14) and her co-sponsors have introduced legislation which would require certain contributors to “issue advocacy organizations”, including the NRA, to have their names, addresses and their employers information sent to the government.

A2595, if passed, will mandate that any “issue advocacy organization” classified under IRS Code as a 501(C) (3), 501 (C) (4) or 527 that engages in the election or defeat of any person to State or local elective office; the passage or defeat of any public question; or that provides political information on any candidate, must submit the names and addresses of contributors and their employers to the Election Law Enforcement Commission.

Not only is Assemblywoman Greenstein (D-14) the prime sponsor of A2595, but she is also the Chair of the committee that will hear the bill. The Assembly Judiciary Committee will hear the bill on Monday, June 14th at 10:00 am.

A2595 is a shameless attempt to intimidate citizens who engage in the legislative and political process.

Please contact your Assemblymembers today and urge him or her to oppose A2595!

The bill does not extend to “Labor, agricultural, or horticultural organizations” for some reason.

Lefties are so stupid they probably think ACORN qualifies as horticultural!

After the appropriate lawsuits, I think it will apply to those, as well. Of course, better to see that it doesn't pass and avoid all that.

This Bill Also applies to New Jersey Right to Life and other pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment organizations.

Urgent - Take Action to oppose A2595/S2076 Now! Bill will restrict activities of certain non profit organizations.

Dear Friends of NJRTL:

Please Act Immediately!

Bill A2595 is scheduled for a vote in the Assembly Judiciary Committee in Trenton on Monday morning, June 14th
The bill is sponsored by the Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein.  A2595 is very far reaching and will restrict the activities of issue advocacy organizations like New Jersey Right to Life.   This past January, in the landmark decision by the U. S. Supreme Court, Citizens United v FEC, the Court held that corporations, for profit,  not for profit and unions could engage in electioneering communications and that such activities cannot be limited under the First Amendment.

Now, legislators in Trenton,  want to impose onerous and burdensome disclosure requirements and restrictions on non-profit organizations which could have a chilling effect on our advocacy efforts. The bill is on the fast track. The Senate Version is S2076.

Please do the following:

1.  Call and email members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee as soon as possible and urge them to vote No on A2595.   See below for contact information of members of the Judiciary Committee.
2.  Please contact your two Assembly Members and State Senator who represent you in Trenton and urge them to Vote No on A2595/S2076.
To find your legislators, click here.

Please act NOW!

Thank you.

Uh, oh boy, um, not quite sure how to tell you this...

Have you, uh, seen who's in the White House?

With libs controlling the courts, and gaining a firmer grip every day, I'm not sure the threat of lawsuits will deter anything. If there's still a modicum of sense on the bench, this thing will be laughed into its grave without seeing the light of day - but in this post-Constitutional age of judicial legislation, the judges can do pretty much whatever they please. Not only the labor unions, but left-wing interest groups like the Brady Campaign Against Self Defense and the National Organization of Liberal Women will likely get a free pass as well :-( Just my 2 cents; believe me I hope I'm wrong!

Can't Christie VETO this as unconstitutional?

It might even violate New Jersey's Constitution

AIG type protests outside their homes and schools would be payback for what the Libs do on a routine basis.

But notice that none of these protests are done in a "castle doctrine" state.

One would hope that even the soft heads at the NRA would have the courage to defy this to the bitter end. (yes, I know better than that)
