Very interesting.
(Excerpt) Read more at bp.com ...
BINGO!
Have if fit down over the flange and have something to tighten the bottom up around underneath it to hold it securely in place.
This well is not going back into production.
BP is going to have two wells now (thanks to Obama) and they're drilling them as we speak.
Just sitting there I guess.
When he described the new cap as giant funnel I felt warm & fuzzy inside. My ignorant mind said bring down a giant funnel (granted, 5 or 6 stories high — minimum) place it over the whole wreck and funnel the oil up for collection.
Granted, reality is a long, long way from my delusions, but people who know nothing about the subject at hand are free to suggest anything. :-)
It did give me the chance to turn to my husband and say “Just who was talking about a funnel? I bet you feel stupid right about now.” My version of ‘never let a crisis go to waste.’ :-)
THANKS!
These feeds are great!
WOW!
and I don’t mean that in a good way.
What a gusher! SOOOO sad!
Everyone here PLEASE say a PRAYER that they are successful with the cap! I cannot imagine this oil volcano going on for months awaiting the relief well.
My heart has broken a little more each day that this thing has gone on.
We need a screen grab of this to put on a T-shirt and caption it
“Obama’s Legacy.”
Yep, and anyone who buys the line that those wells are only temporary is smoking something.
They may call the 'temporary relief wells', but I would bet the house that they will be PERMANENTLY temporary.
No way BP is going to walk away from what is conservatively estimated as the second largest oil reserve in the world.
I think you want the elongated surface
The logic will be that they must pump oil to relieve pressure. And might as well put the oil to use right?
HOW are they going to overcome that gushing pressure to put a cap on it?
And why should they? Obama won't be around for long, and the new President will (hopefully) overturn all of the anti-American crap his Regime did.
Just remember though, as bad as this is, the flow from this well is not even 1/3 what was coming out of IXTOC I when it blew out in 1979; and IXTOC pumped oil into the gulf for over 9 months from only a few miles off shore without destroying the gulf. The environmental damage from IXTOC I reversed itself in less than a year for the most part -- I say most part because you can still find a small layer of oil on South Padre Island if you dig down a few feet.
Bottom line, as horrible a situation as this is right now, and as much damage as it is and has caused, it is a drop in the bucket compared to what naturally leaks into the oceans and when compared to past events.
The gulf will recover and will recover quickly once this thing is capped.
All I've been able to find is of the first cut or the diamond saw attempt.
Thanks!
I wonder if any of Obama's professors of movie directors have any bright ideas.(extreme sarcasm)
They've worked their butts off...they deserve every drop.
The weird part is that the govt is going to fine them based on every drop that got loose....except the govt gave "0" help.
I still think "sabotage" and the two guys in the mudroom that died..they were the martyrs.
Pretty sure the cap is actually left open until pipe can be run to the surface. Then the cap is closed sending oil up the new riser? Any one know for sure?
add to that-
The moratorium on all OTHER new offshore drilling.
BP will be the only one tapping into that oil!
In other words, ultimately, they will be REWARDED for this major screw-up!
And taxpayers will probably pay for the clean-up!
Couple good tropical storms and you’d have a hard time finding any evidence that an oil spill ever happened...
The only way to relieve the pressure on a leaking well (until the relief well is finished) is to tap the oil. There is no way to simply "block" the oil, it will just leak out.
