The origin of modern myths and legends is a side interest of mine, the birther myths among them.
Now I understand why Obama being born in Kenya made it into your belief system, despite it being physically impluasible (requiring around 5 days and five flights, most on propeller planes) and financially impossible (it would have cost about a year of her parents' combined salaries) for Stanley Ann & Obama Sr. to travel there for her to give birth. After all, Obama's Father was from Kenya, so if you are going to make up a myth about Obama being born abroad, what better place than Kenya?
Implausibilty, and even impossiblilty doesn't deter the making of myths if there is a strong emotional reason to believe them, as in this case.
What I don't understand is, of all possible places in Kenya, why make Mombassa the birthplace in your myth? If you look at the map of Kenya, it's on the other end of the country from Obama Sr.'s village, 762 miles away, which would make it a minimum 2 day train ride. Probably longer, since Kenyan trains were very fast in 1961.
I suppose you could argue that there were no hospitals in Obama's village, so they had to travel to a major city. But Nairobi was closer, and more modern.
So why Mombassa? Not only is it completely implausible; I don't see the emotional appeal. Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village? Or why Mombassa rather than Nairobi?
Help me out here, birthers. Why do you reserve this special place for Mombassa in your belief system?

Sheesh. Do I have to spell it out for you? Travel for pregnant women in general is more difficult than for young, health men. Hence a journey that was not too difficult for Obama Sr. might very well be too difficult for his pregnant wife.
Also, a journey that may be financially feasible when someone else is paying the bill may not be feasible when you have to pay for it out of your own pocket. In the case of Obama Sr. and his bride, the journey was definitively not affordable.

He could get a COLB that listed China as his birthplace. He could not get a COLB saying he was born in Hawaii.

No it's not.
Poeple point out that Sun Yat Sen committed fraud to get a Certificate of Hawaiian Birth 40+ years before Obama's birth.
40 years later, Obama obtains a standard birth certificate, a completely different document, filed 4 days after his birth, and then 40 years later he gets a COLB, which is based on data in his original BC.
I fail to see any link between the Obama documents and the Sun Yat Sen documents. What am I missing?
That is ridiculous. Just because someone (Sun Yat Sen) got one in 1904 fraudulently doesn’t mean they were just throwing them out like candy in 1961. That is just absurd.
exactly. Just because one person fraudulently obtained a false BC as an adult in the early 1900s doesn’t mean squat about birth certificates in 1961 given to an infant.
That is like saying because of the identity theft problem in the US, your social security number or driver’s license is probably fake.

Well I HAVE, and unless there is a complication and its a normal healthy pregnancy there is absolutely nothing to preclude travel. In fact most physicians will allow a pregnant woman with an uncomplicated pregnancy to travel all the way up to the 8th month.

Everything I have read (too much...) is that there was no ban, but there was advisory, visas were difficult to get, Americans had to have some business/gov reason to get, Paki was not mellow about it either.
