Ward worked for Democrats in Idaho and Virginia, says IdahoReporter.com Submitted by Dan Popkey on Mon, 05/10/2010 - 9:39am.
First Congressional District Republican candidate Vaughn Ward worked for Democrats in Idaho and Virginia, IdahoReporter.com reported Sunday.
But Ward's campaign manager, Ryan O'Barto, said Ward did not support Democratic state Rep. Jim Hansen of Boise when he interned for him for college credit in 1989 or 1990 at the Legislature. O'Barto also told IdahoReporter.com that the records of the Virginia Democratic Party that show Ward as a volunteer for Gov. Tim Kaine in 2005 must be a mistake and that Ward never supported Kaine.
Hansen is now executive director of the Idaho Democratic Party. Kaine chairs the Democratic National Committee.

Aside from the merits of this story, this guy’s campaign manager is named Ryan O’Barto? What the hell kind of name is that? Sounds like a shameless gimmick to snatch the Irish-Italian vote.
The Idaho Statesman has been on a smear campaign against Vaughn Ward for a while now. For a bit about a month ago it was a week straight, each day a new smear article.
If it’s Popkey, it’s bird-cage liner.
Is this Vaughn Ward from Kuna?
My bird hanged himself in his cage after I accidentally used Statesman page of Popkey .
Psst...
The guy interned 20 years ago. Looks like a typical “Hey, Republicans, he’s not conservative enough” smear.
Despite the fact it’s from the g-d Statesman, I’m glad you posted something about this Robin, as I’ve been meaning to get a thread going to discuss the GOP primary. Now that I have a girlfriend, I’m sort of surprised how little time I have anymore.
But I’ve been going back and forth on either Ward or Labrador. To be perfectly honest, I don’t really know that much about Labrador yet and most of you know just how much I despise the Mistakesman. So now is as good of a time as any to see if we can put our heads together and see if anyone can shed some more light on this race.
Not that I remember, as I live in Kuna. According to his bio, he grew up in Shoshone and went to BSU. I know Bill Sali is from Kuna.
Thanks.
That’s intriguing. I wonder how you ended up getting a phone call about Ward considering the race in our district when you in the 2nd district? For a while I had been leaning towards Ward but there’s a pretty good chance now that he may not get my vote.
The Statesman is not my favorite source for anything, but even a broken watch is accurate twice a day.
I have spoken with both Ward and Labrador, briefly. The exchange with Ward was before I had even heard of Labrador. My talk with Ward did not leave me feeling good about him.
A major comparison between the two is that Ward was identified by the Republican establishment back East and he was sent here to make his presence known. Imposed down on us. Yes, he has done “good stuff for America.” That does not equate to “good man for Idaho.”
Labrador, on the other hand, is still an Idahoan in more than name only. He has a very good record in the state legislature. He worked his way up to running for the office of Congressman.
You're right. I've been sitting back thinking the best choice will become clear as we progress to the primary and more information becomes available.
But this election doesn't seem to be getting much attention at all here in North Idaho - I haven't even seen a single TV or radio ad.
Time to start really digging into this... this election is too important.
Yet, that doesn't stop Labrador's supporters from trying to brand Ward as a carpetbagger, because he owns a house in Virginia. Meanwhile, Labrador has admitted to representing illegal scumbag aliens in his law practice.
The fact that the media around here have it out for Ward, the Slantsman in particular, is reason enough for me to vote for him.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Do you think it's working? I don't. I think it's going to backfire against Labrador, who already has a huge problem in his support for illegal scumbag aliens.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
He hasn't been around the state that much since he had a few jobs that took him on the road such as acting as an aide to Dirk Kempthorne in the Senate, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and the CIA who sent him to Iraq and Afghanistan respectively. I suppose those credits on his resume aren't good enough for a real Idahoan like you. He should have stayed home and served Idaho alone and not his country.
I also met and talked with Ward. He addressed a small group of GOPers in Post Falls for 2 hours, answering our questions and speaking to us all personally. I got a real good feeling from him and support him 100%.
Minnick is far more worried about Ward than he is about Labrador. That's why the Statesman is doing everything to sour people like you against him.
What a surprise that a "Labrador supporter" would come on FR and try to sink the GOP frontrunner in ID-1.
