United States President Barack Obama has lost nearly half of his support among American Jews, a poll by the McLaughlin Group has shown.
The US Jews polled were asked whether they would: (a) vote to re-elect Obama, or (b) consider voting for someone else. 42% said they would vote for Obama and 46%, a plurality, preferred the second answer. 12% said they did not know or refused to answer.

All 5.2 million of us? Are you on something?
Interesting. I'm curious, how do Jews best interests differ from the interests of other liberal Americans? Black or white, straight or gay? Don't come back to me with Israel BS, that segment of the electorate that opposed the Iraq war, paulistinians aside, in favor of netotiations obviously would take the same position on Israel.
As a Republican, how the h*ll does the GOP have my interests as a JEW at heart, vis a vis the Dems. I can think of a dozen differences beteween the parties which I'd be happy to argue, but to advocate for the GOP because I'm a Jew, I don't know how to do that, at least to anyone with some level of political knowledge extending back a few decades.
Sometimes, it is enlightening to pursue a particular conversation through the thread of one of these articles. It helps me self-examine some of my thought processes.
At first glance, I would have agreed with the statement and never have given it a second thought; now I see that perhaps it does deserve a second thought.
I do not consider myself anti-Semitic but I know that there were moments when my family (my mother and grandparents) said things that came off as anti-Semitic and I know that their moral slant is there, buried deep in my psyche (just like the Racism that I try to untangle almost daily from my conscious thoughts). I dont get into the forum of Free Republic as much or as often as I used to but its beneficial for me, I think, since it helps me identify when, where, why, and how my family cultural beliefs may have lead me astray.
I know that Mel Gibson has had trouble controlling his anti-Semitic tendencies but Id never heard the allegation that he was Jewish (or that John Edwards was either for that matter). I have heard that Adolf Hitler may have had some Jewish ancestry too; dont know if any of these accusations can be verified but they do lead me to a question. If any or all of them are true, why would a Jew (or even a part-Jew) hate themselves? What causes self-hatred on such a monumental scale?
I dont think Im consciously racist or anti-Semitic but if these statements or questions come off that way, Id appreciate some clarification on how and why (at least in your opinion) they do.
Israel wasn't the issue in 1984, but Mondale was supportive. As was, imo, some disagree, Reagan. I wouldn't want to make the case one way or another. But that's not what people were voting on.
“Korn faces a tough challenge in gathering support for Palin among American Jews, considering that she has referred to the United States as a Christian nation
I guess they would rather have a Muslim nation. IDIOTS
That was sarcasm based on another posters comment that
Hollywood and trial lawyers are Jewish, thus the examples of Gibson and Edwards, prominent in their fields, who obviously aren't.
The rumors that Hitler had an illegitimate Jewish grandfather are basicly that, I'm not aware of any legitimate historians who accept that.
I haven't a clue what you're talking about when you bring up self-hatred. Or Jewish self-hatred on a monumental scale. You'll have to explain what you're talking about. If it's juvenile nonsense like "Jews vote for Democrats" save the bandwith.
As to whether you're consciously or unconsciously antisemitic, I haven't a clue.
HA HA that cold LOL!
Rightfully SO GOOD I hope that wake up the Jews I know jews who still vote for the dude
Now that’s change you can believe in.
All the Jews I know never leave the house without an edge.
This essay by Paul Johnson comes to mind. In it he points out that anti-Semitism is inherently “irrational” - ie Jews are uber-Capitalists and born Communists. Worth a read.

Congratulations! It only took 2 posts to get to yours! Great! Appreciate the help!
That he ever had any is sheer lunacy.
“Obama is about to appoint another Jew to the Supreme Court”
Is that what you think is significant about Kagan?
She is a homosexual. That trumps any possible religious affiliation.
Thanks for the Ping, Salem.
The left has done a very good propaganda job of equating “Right Wing” with “Nazism”, when the exact OPPOSITE is true.
Extreme Right Wing Politics means NO Government at All.
Extreme Left Wing Politics is Totalitarianism, whether under the guise of Marxism or fascism.
Ideally, a Government For The People, of the People and By the People avoids MOB RULE and protects the Rights of the Minority by being a Republic. Which is exactly what our wise Founding Fathers Intended.
However, in their horror of ever seeing another Totalitarian Nazi regime, and exposed to every lie of the combined forces of the left, The media, Academia and Hollywood, it is Completely Natural that American Jews will lean to the Left.
Add to this the The Time Honored Religious Traditions of Charity, Social Justice, and Tikkun Olam (healing the World), American Jews are easy Prey for the lying pack of wolves in sheep’s clothing that are the Left.
I am glad that many are now waking up to this deception.
Maybe part of the loss in Jewish support for O stems from artifact. The much repeated 78 percent Jewish vote for O in '08 was a result of left-sponsored polls using faulty sampling techniques. The real number was probably about 10 points lower.
Furthermore the McLaughlin poll doesn't measure O against any specific opposing candidate. It just asks the respondent if he/she would consider voting for someone else.
Does that go for the 76% in 2004, and the 79% in 2000, and the 78% in 1996, and the 80% in 1992?
“Be interested in hearing your thoughts on this issue.”
I think it has more to do with Obama’s war-on-the-productive than Obama’s war-on-Israel.
Jewish people in the USA are heavily upper middle class. This is EXACTLY who Obama’s socialist redistribution policies are aimed at “taking down.” Guys who own dry cleaners or Chick-Fil-As or who are doctors and lawyers and the like.
The extreme rich will get richer and the extreme poor will get a free ride. The middle class will get crushed.
That is Obama’s “change” -— an oligarchy run by our betters.
The fact that Obama surrounds himself with virulent anti-semites and is clearly trying to destoy Israel is the emotional level.
All that said, the morons on this thread (which I haven’t read, merely predicting), who preach that Jews are stupid and suicidal and deserve what we get aren’t exactly a welcoming face for conservatives.
