Remember also, that there was reportedly a phone call to NYPD early in the morning on Sunday that indicated this was a “diversion”, and the “big one” was still to come... I pray they found the network/cell, but I wouldn’t count on it being the only one. I’m just praying that our LEOs at all levels are able to stop all of the plots that may be in the works. We’ve been REALLY lucky though — alert citizens have made the difference, and (I believe) some - maybe a LOT - of divine intervention as well.
[Shaking head.]
See post #155. Cantor did somewhat redeem himself.

I didn’t pay attention to that piece of info and the details as much as I should have. It puzzles me why caller calls it a “diversion” (when it clearly wasn’t-—unless we stopped a simultaneous attack the public isn’t aware of at another location).
Nevertheless, it’s also a confirmation of the more-to-come threats.
Was that on the main threads? If not, it needs to be!
Terrorist threat on border with Mexico
Snip: Farmer talked to an Arizona rancher who didn't want to be identified because he's afraid of the Mexican cartels who smuggle drugs near his property. He said he found a Muslim prayer rug on his ranch. "This is one more indication that there is a whole lot more than just a few Mexicans coming into the U.S.".
A recent congressional report on the border threat confirmed members of Hezbollah have crossed the Southwest border. It shows photos of military jackets with Arab insignias found on the border. One depicts a picture of a plane crashing into the twin towers in New York City.
Law enforcement officials believe one of the world's most wanted terrorists may have traveled into the U.S. in 2004 by coming through the mountains on the Mexico border. Federal agents confirmed Adnan Shurkajumah spent time in Atlanta just prior to Sep. 11th, and left on a bus. He is a Saudi Arabian pilot and bomb expert with a $5 million bounty on his head. In 2004, Shurkajumah was one of seven Al-Qaida members agents were looking for after they were spotted in Central America and believed headed to the United States through Mexico . Federal agents now say Shurkajumah seems to have disappeared.
I’m not understanding how you (bgill) are seeing that he was obviously on a list of “known” individuals? Maybe I missed something? Even with fingerprints still on the vehicle they still had to do a lot of footwork to get this guy. They questioned the girl who sold him the SUV, and who knows what else or how many were tracking all the leads at that point. The thing that “clinched” it all - according to an article I read here - was his pre-paid cellphone that he left behind off of which they got one phone number and were able to then connect the dots.
The fact that he (and two others) were actually allowed to board the international flight at JFK would lead me to believe the opposite actually - that he was not on a “known” list (unless they are keeping track of citizens returning from Middle Eastern destinations, and with Obama’s recent statements I doubt that is going on at all - if it even were at some time in the past).
Honestly, I wonder if officials put the wrong name on the bulletin to the airports, and out to the press as well (however, an alert worker should have questioned it even if the names were reversed, IMHO — I would assume there was a picture included with the bulletin to the airports, but perhaps not). I also read something where they referred to the fact that since he obtained citizenship so recently he was easier to find (do they require fingerprinting for all citizenship applicants? I would assume that’s a “yes”).
Another thing I’ve been considering, although I really hope I’m wrong about this... This definitely was a plan gone awry. However, I have to wonder whether the “diversion” was in tying up the LEOs finding this guy and his associates (which would no doubt have been a LOT harder if the bomb had actually worked). Perhaps a rival faction of terrorists — or a way for them to get the incompetents out of their cell?
(Obviously I’m throwing out pure conjecture with that last part...)
However, I do completely agree that we are at greater risk now, than at any time previously... The (hopefully coming soon) crack-down against illegal immigration by the Feds may be making them nervous as well, and hopefully in their haste they will keep making the mistakes that allow innocents to live, and them to be caught.
“Was that on the main threads? If not, it needs to be!”
It does!
I just did a search on “Mexico”; nothing posted in last week showed up.
don’t know the answers to your questions; there was this:
on this thread and in news sources it has been mentioned that when they ID’s Shahbaz they (?) were familiar with his name.
BUT
from post #161
“He was ahead of the data,” a police source said. “It wasn’t until he was on board the aircraft that the information about him caught up with the manifest.”
Shahzad’s name was supposed to have been added to the no-fly list earlier Monday.
It was unclear why it never make it the list. [???]
Thank you Lucy.
Levin is covering now:
In the end, it was secret Army intelligence planes that did him in. Armed with his cell phone number, they circled the skies over the New York area, intercepting a call to Emirates Airlines reservations, before scrambling to catch him at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Arthur - calling on you to post that on the main thread - it's your "find."
Mohammad Ajmal Kasab - India's most important prisoner
Snip: The trial of Mohammad Ajmal Kasab, the only surviving gunman to have carried out the Mumbai terror attacks, has finally ended. Well, nearly.
After a year-long trial that heard testimony from more than 600 witnesses, the 22-year-old Pakistani national has been found guilty. Ajmal Kasab has been convicted of 86 charges, including waging war on India.
Lithuania detains woman suspected of terrorism
Snip: Lithuanian prosecutors say they have detained a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of plotting a suicide attack against an undisclosed Russian military target.
MS-NBC's Brewer is bummed Shahzad wasn't a Tea Partier
BREWER: I mean the thing is is that and I get frustrated and there was part of me that was hoping this was not going to be anybody with ties to any kind of Islamic country because there are a lot of people who want to use this terrorist intent to justify writing off people who believe in a certain way or come from certain countries or whose skin color is a certain way. I mean they use it as justification for really outdated bigotry.
Sweet — that’s pretty dang cool! God bless our military. I really appreciate the information, there were really no details in the report I had read.
Please note: I’m not seeing any citations of how they got this information. Others also reporting not seeing any citations of just who had, and looked at the voter registration rolls. Completely unsourced info. at this point. (Again, unless I missed something...).

Obama Admin Blows It Again? Person of Interest in Times Square Bombing Familiar to Investigators
Posted on Monday, May 03, 2010 8:46:41 PM by kristinn
CBS News is reporting the Pakistani-American allegedly tied by forensic evidence to the Times Square bombing attempt last Saturday is familiar to the Obama administration:
A source told CBS News that investigators are looking at a possible suspect, a Pakistani American, in the botched car bombing incident near Times Square. The source said forensic evidence uncovered in the vehicle led them to a Middle Eastern mans name that was familiar to counter terrorism investigators.
Fox News reported the Obama administration knows the person of interest recently returned from Pakistan:
Federal authorities have identified a person of interest in Saturday nights Times Square bomb attempt a naturalized American citizen who was in Pakistan for several months and returned to the United States recently, investigative sources told Fox News.
...Sources say that evidence includes international phone calls made by the person of interest, who has not been identified publicly.
The Obama administrations familiarity with the person of interest is in keeping with recent failures by the Obama administration to stop terror attacks on American soil by those known to the administration to have suspected ties to overseas Muslim terrorist elements:

“...he was granted conditional citizenship...”
Sounds like he just renounced it me. Treason, anyone?
committing acts of war against the United States and all that...
From the very first minute...and continuing as we learn more, and correcting wrong assumptions, we have managed to get at the heart of it, get to the TRUTH of it, and as I have gone from story to story all over the web, I note, with much pride in you guys, that NO ONE has done it better than you have.

Mr. Shahzad is the son of retired Air Vice Marshall Baharul Haq, a former top Pakistani air force officer and deputy director general of the civil aviation authority, according to Kifyat Ali, a cousin of Mr. Shahzads father. Mr. Ali, who spoke to the Associated Press, said Mr. Shahzad was never linked to any political or religious party here in Peshawar.
