"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane has compared a tough new immigration law in Arizona to those of Nazi Germany.
MacFarlane, whose irreverent animated TV comedies have themselves provoked controversy, said the Arizona law was more shocking than anything he had done on television.
"It's too much. It's kind of a slap in the face, it's not the way to handle it...Nobody but the Nazis ever asked anybody for their papers," MacFarlane told Reuters Television in an interview on Thursday.
"Walking down the street, a cop can come up to you and say 'May I see your papers?' -- I think they should be required to ask that question in German if the law sticks around," he added.

Another thing, Seth. Have you ever traveled to a foreign country, especially one that requires passport and/or travel visa? You’d be surprised how many of them expect visiting non-citizens to keep proper identification on hand.

I guess they didn’t ask for papers in the Soviet Union, China, North Korea, Cuba... you get the point. They can’t reference communist regimes, though, that would reflect intellectual honesty... (2) Newborn babies The birth should be registered at the municipal office of your place of residence within 14 days. The office will then issue a "Birth Notification Certificate（Shussei Shomeisho）". Bring the certificate and "Mother/Child Health Handbook（BoshiTecho）" to the Alien Registration Desk. (3) Change of Registration (Henko Toroku) You are required to report to the municipal office within 14 days in the event of a change in any of the followings: a) Address in Japan b) Status of residence c) Authorized period of stay d) Name e) Nationality f) Occupation g) Place of employment Necessary documents are as follows, but you will have to bring your Alien Registration Card (Gaikokujin Torokusho) and Application for Change (available at the municipal office) in any of the following cases: Changes Necessary Documents -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name Proofs that name change was officially approved. For instance, passport with changed name. Nationality Passport or official document issued by embassy or consulate in Japan Place of Employment ID card issued by employer, employer's business license, copy of business register, etc. Status of Residence/Period of Stay Passport or certificate of status of residence Passport No. / Date of issue New Passport Relation with head of household Copy of family register (Koseki Tohon), certificate of marriage, filiation, adoption, etc. (4) Re-Issue (Sai-Koufu) If your Alien Registration Card has been lost or stolen, notify the nearest police station and apply for a new card within 14 days. Procedures are the same as Initial Registration . (5) Renewal (Koshin Shinsei) Alien registration must be renewed every 5 years. You are required to renew your registration before the expiration date. Renewal is not necessary for those who are 15 years old or younger. Those who will turn 16 must apply for the renewal within 30days after their birthday. Necessary documents are: a) Application for renewal of alien registration (available at the municipal office) b) Passport c) 2 photographs (45mm x 35mm), black & white or color (6) Return of Alien Registration Card If you leave Japan without having obtained a Re-entry Permit (Sai-nyukoku Kyokasho), you will be asked by an immigration inspector at the point of departure to return your Alien Registration Card (Gaikokujin Torokusho). The card should also be returned to the municipal office in the event of the followings: a) When the owner obtains Japanese citizenship b) When the owner passes away (7) Proof of Alien Registration (Gaikokujin Torokuzumisho) This is a sheet of paper that provides proof of the items that have been registered in your Alien Registration Card. You should apply in person, by bringing your Alien Registration Card with you. A power of attorney is required when you don't apply in person. Fee \200 per copy.
