If Passed In Albany, Law Would Be First Of Its Kind In The United States
Organ donation has become a vital way to save lives around the world, but a vast shortage of donors continues to mean people are losing their lives while on waiting lists.
But there is a unique proposal that could change all that.

The bidness of organlegging:
“Organlegging is the name of a fictional crime in the Known Space universe created by Larry Niven. It is the illicit trade of black market human organs for transplant. The term organlegging is a portmanteau combining the words “organ” and “bootlegging”, literally the piracy and smuggling of organs.[1]
The crime developed as a response to the Organ Bank Problem, a concept featured prominently in the early Known Space stories, particularly those set in the twenty first and twenty second century. The Organ Bank Problem is a central theme in the novel A Gift from Earth, as well as the Gil Hamilton detective stories. As speculative fiction, the concept is a prime example of a gedanken experiment. It is an examination of the consequences to society of a new technology (in this case, the perfection of organ transplants) and an existing problem (organ shortage), carried to a logical conclusion.
The effect of technology on society is a recurring theme in Niven’s stories.”

Just wait till the Muslims hear about this...
“I’m not dead yet!”
“Don’t be silly. You’ll be stone cold in a minute!”
“I’m getting better. I feel happy.”
THWACK!
That's exactly the system China has right now, they just use prisoners condemned for serial jaywalking.
Oh, and if your just filthy rich but not connected to the government, well, your money's good too!
Wait when the folks figure out they want to transplant their sex organs too! lol
I could just see the Death Panel now: “Psst, Joe, y’know, if he dies, we could really use that liver...”
This is not organ donation, it’s organ confiscation.
My plan is to make my organs useless to the confiscators due to high fat content: bratwursts and beer. If they come for my organs before that’s successful, then it’s Winchesters and Colts.
You're not allowed to claim yourself as a personal deduction on your NY State tax form, yet the State wants the right to claim your organs after you die. Typical NY State bulls*it.
The initial testing that's required in order for a patient to be placed on the waiting list for a transplant can cost tens of thousands of dollars, even if the patient is not hospitalized.
It is not uncommon for the cost of the transplant surgery and following hospitalization to result in a bill that exceeds $500,000. Unfortunately, the expenses do not end with surgery; the cost of medications in the year after surgery typically exceeds $30,000 a year.
Ideally, a patient will have primary insurance to pay the majority of the transplant expenses and a secondary form of insurance to pay the remaining expenses. Even with excellent insurance coverage that pays 80% of the total bill, the remaining 20% can exceed $100,000 from the surgery alone. With secondary or supplemental insurance coverage, the remaining 20% may be paid by the insurance company rather than the patient.
Time to enjoy each day to its fullest. Time to party like there's no tomorrow... or move to another State. NYS is a hazard to ones health.
All your bodies are belong to us!

Monty Python Meaning of Life script
MAN: Hello. Uhh, can we have your liver?
MR. BROWN: My what?
MAN: Your liver. It's a large, ehh, glandular organ in your abdomen.
ERIC: [sniff]
MAN: You know, it's, uh,-- it's reddish-brown. It's sort of, uhh,--
MR. BROWN: Yeah,-- y-- y-- yeah, I know what it is, but... I'm using it, eh.
How long before the Muslims and Amish and Christian Scientists and Jehovah’s Witnesses are exempt?
It’s funny how many of those things I used to argue younger days were all dismissed as informal logical fallacies of slippery slope... yet they have come to pass.
We wind up with much fewer New Yawkers this way. Given that this is a crowd that votes for Hillary!, this might be a good thing.
Gotta prohibit brain transplants. (Though in a populace that votes Hillary! there is probably little brain to transplant.)
ping
This one. (:-)
Thanks for the ping, Dem Guard! (Ping to you Wagglebee - don’t know if you want to pass this on or not...) This is a truly scary proposal!
I fully support VOLUNTARY organ donation. My mother received a Kidney Transplant in 1987, and I will be eternally grateful to the family who lost their loved one, but in the process saved the lives of a total of EIGHT people... As a result my mother did not pass away when I was in my late teens, and was with us for 10 more years, until her death exactly 13 years ago today (well, I guess yesterday now... the 28th).
HOWEVER, a mandate for organ transplantation? Definitely NOT a good idea. Too much pressure on the doctors to harvest the organs and convince the families that there is “no hope” when indeed there may be. Just another “cost cutting” measure I suppose. Why should the state pay for continual medical care for those needing organs, and pay for the continual medical care of someone with brain damage, or who is in a coma?
Frankly, I’m surprised a measure like this ISN’T already contained within the Obamacare bill’s 2000 pages...
This is quite disturbing...
Thanks again for the ping to the post, Dem Guard. This is an important thing to watch — and to fight against!
