Even as he touts his efforts to put more Americans to work, President Barack Obama faces a public increasingly skeptical of his ability to bring jobs back.
During stops in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri, Obama will try to convince voters that his economic policies are working, despite an unemployment rate that's expected to remain at painfully high levels for months if not years.
Those voters -- many of them crucial independents -- will be key to Obama's re-election prospects in 2012. And his fellow Democrats, facing a tough political climate in the November elections when control of Congress is at stake, need their support even sooner.
"The bottom line is that the Democrats are almost certain to be campaigning in economic circumstances that will not be politically favorable," said William Galston, a former domestic policy aide in Bill Clinton's White House and now a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Most of the idiots who voted for Obama probably blame Bush for this economy.
Yeah, if it weren’t for unemployment thingy, everything would be hunky dory.
It's the thought that counts right Barry? Results? Who cares about results?? He's just the greatest president. Ever.
Obama ate his inheritance. Dems lost a 9 point advantage in four months .....They have had the advantage since 2006 by the AP and since 2002 according to the Pew Poll. More here: http://tinyurl.com/27nlx29
I thought it was part of his economic agenda?
Hire more census workers.
: o /
If his policies were working, he wouldn’t have to crisscross the country trying to convince people...now would he.
Actually, it is part of his economic agenda. As a Marxist, he will not be satisfied until he has thoroughly expunged private enterprise and every American works for the government.
Obama will try to convince voters that his economic policies are working,
Barry's policies ARE working.
Just as he promised everyone is becoming equally POOR.
The main problem will be turnout.
There is no Super N to draw the voters away from jobs or homes or crack houses or street corners to vote for a mere congressman or Senator (what is a Senator any way?) There is no hype and no money circulating in the churches.
There is no fraud ward large enough to cast the critical votes long after the polls are closed. The Acorn mamas have been laid off.
And IRS agents!
I think a lot of those initial voters think they have done their job....and they aren’t leaving the house again...too much work....(let the illegals do the job)
There, fixed it.
Of course he can't. obama is an anti-business, anti-profit, anti-capitalist socialist with fascist leanings. Businesses are hunkered down, just riding out the next 1000 days or so. If obama really wanted to initiate a recovery, he could resign. Unemployment would probably start trending down within a month or two.
New small businesses have been the factor for job growth since the 1980’s.
With the “Progressives” in charge it is not safe to start a new business. No one wants to take the risk when Obama promises central planning.
The luck charm has a half life.
Mas mexicanos.
unemployment IS his economic agenda....the fundamental economics of the Democratic party are “dependence” ...which is then used to “justify” confiscatory levels of taxation.
Unemployment is the secret (not so secret) result of O’s agenda. This was his plan from the start.
Destroy America and recreate it in Rev. Wright’s image.
