What do Glenn Beck, Ron Paul, Michele Bachmann and Joseph Farah have in common?
They're all prominently featured in a new list of 40 "patriots" and "enablers" that a left-leaning group thinks Americans should be concerned about.
In its new report titled, "Meet the Patriots," the Southern Poverty Law Center states: "In the last year and a half, militias and the larger antigovernment 'patriot' movement have exploded, accompanied by the rapid expansion of other sectors of the radical right. This spectacular growth is the result of several factors, including anger over major political, demographic and economic changes in America, along with the popularization of radical ideas and conspiracy theories by ostensibly mainstream politicians and media commentators."
It defines "patriots" as "people who generally believe that the federal government is an evil entity that is engaged in a secret conspiracy to impose martial law, herd those who resist into concentration camps, and force the United States into a socialistic 'New World Order.'"
The report calls Fox News host Glenn Beck "the Ringmaster" of the movement, noting, "With his weepy, chalkboard-scrawling appeals to Americans fearful that their government is leading them down the path to ruin, Glenn Beck has rocketed up the ladder of conservative icons and is using his popularity to directly shape a far-right resurgence."

bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
How long before they get a law where we will have to sew a yellow ‘C’ for Conservative or maybe a yellow Christian cross on our clothes?
Is there ANYWAY we can send this picture with the title to the SPLC making sure they understand it is being sent in honor of their making a patriot list of people to monitor in case of overt violence?
Sure. Just copy the photo into an email.
...I’ve seen ya on the Beck radio thread, and you scare the turds out of me!!!
...Just jokin. What concerns me is,,, I don’t think this is a laughing matter. Beck’s been saying, and I believe, that this is coming. Anything this administration deems can be turned into a crisis. I’m not in myspace, facebook, or twitter, for that reason. As you point out, my ass gets in enough trouble on FR. This is the only place I wish to express my political opinion. 10+ years and the only threats and abuse are from folks here...
...Be careful where you show yer arse these days, it could end up in a sling..
Interesting to see you both agreeing with the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Also interesting to see whose name ISN'T on their list. I think her name starts with an "S".
5.56mm
Because the majority of the people on that list are 5th rate players who arn’t know outside of their cults. 3rd Party Loons.
Is Michele Bachman a "third party loon"?
And it doesn't bother you in the least that whether you consider them "third party loons" or not, most represent a return to the Constitution and are anti-war (except in defense), yet they are identified as (dangerous is implied) extremists?
You may not regard them as a threat but the SPLC sure does! Wonder why, if they are just "nobodies"?
Or Judge Napolitano. I never thought I’d see the day when anyone on here defended the stalinists at SPLC. You better believe Morris Dees would get FR in his sights if he had the guts. Sad...
Except for Bachman they are freaks who believe the IslamOfascists are not a threat because we are at fault.
Chuck Baldwin and some of the others believe American spcOps caused the earthquake in Haiti to coverup Bush and Clinton’s drugrunning.
Most of these idiots believe 9/11 was caused by Americans, Jews or or whoever and not the fault of the IslamOfascists.
Their beliefs are all out of the Code Pinko, Michael Moore playbook.
Y'all might have thought as I did that Kincaid was a good guy in the Klinton era, but no more.
I am old enough to remember that significant portion of the American population never believed that we got the whole story on the John Kennedy assassination and thought that the Warren Report was a cover-up. At one point the doubters were actually a majority. Were they all "loons"?
The truth is that a lot of people just don't trust their government.
And some trust government way too much.
Come to think of it, the SPLC might be easier to persuade (if you offered them enough cash, which is what all these scaremongering news releases are intended to bring in) than her.
I know -- it's surprising at how quickly people sell out one another just to feel comfy that it isn't happening to them and their political flavor of the month. Disgusting.
I don't agree with the politics of some of the people on that list, doesn't mean that I think that they are a fair target for this kind of garbage.
There are far too many who don't mind the "jackboots" at all, they just want to be the ones wearing them.
Not all people have to agree or going to agree on everything, but when someone is all output and no input, all posturing and no respectful discourse, then John Cleese old funny bit on extremism applies.
