WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama suggested Wednesday that a new value-added tax on Americans is still on the table, seeming to show more openness to the idea than his aides have expressed in recent days.
Before deciding what revenue options are best for dealing with the deficit and the economy, Obama said in an interview with CNBC, "I want to get a better picture of what our options are."

big surprise .... a week ago Obama was saying no VAT, it was off the table.
Now he will consider it
next week they will ram it through even if it is against the wishes of the voters.
Will this tax people making under $250,000.00 a year .. of course. But you will hear about the tax cuts he gave them.
I predict it now.
“Cutting spending by 35% should be an option”
I agree 100%, but while cutting taxes is always popular, cutting spending is always difficult. Any suggestions as to what the cuts should be?
...and waiting in long lines for gasoline.
“...(Clinton) never mentions that it was Republican majority in Congress elected in 1994 that held his feet to the fire on spending and forced him into these balanced budgets.”
Exactly right. This was one of the few great victories for conservatives in the past several decades. But what did the Republican majority do when George Bush came into office? They caved on fiscal responsibility and the era of massive deficits resumed. Can we say “Never again”?
Obama’s thinking.. “Hmmm.. This economy’s just not tanking fast enough. I gotta pull this off by 2011 so I can create a dire emergency, resulting in desperate masses wanting hand-outs, requiring me to STAY in office far beyond 2012.. Ah, THAT’S IT.. Value Added Tax, yeah THAT’LL do it.”
....forever.
It’s entirely possible that Obomba thinks the “VAT” tax is a tax on liquor. He doesn’t care because right now, the taxpayers are paying for all his booze.
With this guy, no level of idiocy is out of the question.
Well if health care isn’t the the end of Democrats in the House& Senate then we suck and deserve to be slaves. Anyone who votes for a Dem in November under ANY circumstance is nuts.
How about cutting spending ?The government is HUGE and spending is actually out of control.
Obama Lied. People Cried.

“I think we need to schedule national strike days or something like that.”
Too late.
It’s already over.
Americans are already used to the idea of socialized medicine.
I mean, you can hold out hope if you’d like, but your Republican “leaders” are going to do exactly zero to undo what has been done.
Americans are buying the propaganda (”Tea Party is violent”) and pacifying themselves. With the help of the scaredy-cat talking heads like Glenn Beck.
I’m thinking we should allow the left to win in November. Then THEY get the blame for the nightmare that is screaming toward us.
So, Americans, take Glenn Becks pacifist pledge, bend over, and kiss your formerly free *ss goodbye.
But hey, you'll be able to go to the doctor six months after you call to make an appointment, if you aren't dead by then.
Yup! The gop and republicans are useless. We need a new party.
“Look for it to happen in the Lame Duck session before Christmas”.
Ding ding ding..we have a winner... after the Dems get pounded in Nov, and after the deficit commission reports and concludes the GOV needs more money..what’s to loose for the Dems to pass a VAT??
A vat tax along w an income tax is a disaster. Its even worse when considering that the state sales taxes will be assessed on top of the vat meaning that you will get raped on that level as well.
Tax rebate. The same way those that don’t even pay tax get all sorts of money back from you and me!
how can you have a VAT on some people. If it is added at each stage of production, do we have to track each widget produced to know if a wealthy person bought it?
