White House aides are scoffing at a move in the Arizona legislature to force President Obama to show his birth certificate to get on the state's ballot in 2012 for his likely re-election battle.

The snarky comments are reflective of the fact that we’ve been talking about this literally for almost THREE YEARS at this point. It’s frustration you hear in those snarky comments. Especially when we find ourselves having to explain over and over again WHY we question his eligibility.
And, if you don’t think upholding the Constitution, and the possible failure of our Congress to do so isn’t an important issue, then... well... I can’t think of ANYTHING more important than enforcing the Constitution.
The only ones who look less than bright are those who are taking a POLITICIAN at his word — despite ALL history, and our own life experience tells us. Where there is smoke there is fire... And this has been smoldering for, as I said, THREE YEARS. It’s not “all of a sudden” this is important. Perhaps YOU have not been aware of it till recently but a great many of us (as well as about 400 lawsuits starting during the election itself) prove that this is nothing “new”.
Again though — this new law in AZ has nothing to do with Obama himself. It will apply to ALL candidates equally. The law is sound, and needed...
One more thing — Obama may well be an American Citizen through his mother Stanley Ann (although the laws in place at the time of his birth in Hawaii - her state of residence at his birth - leave open the question of whether she was old enough to transfer citizenship upon Barack at birth). There is NO QUESTION that Barack was born with AT THE LEAST - dual citizenship with the US AND Britain. He is NOT a NATURAL BORN Citizen. Much different that being a “citizen” alone...
Hopefully it clairifies the difference of BC and Long Form BC and requres proof of the Long form BC

I think that Obama CAN produce the BC - but whats gonna bite him in the ass is the allegiance component of the “natural born citizen” requirement. THAT is what he is scared of ...
Assuming that AZ passes the law, there is NO way that the State SOS can certify that he is natural born - since it is NOT explicitly stated in the Constitution, NOR has it been specifically ruled upon by SCOTUS.
The logical thing for the State SOS to do would be to deny Obama. It would then be up to him to go to court.
Since this is an issue of national importance, and because it would inevitably reach SCOTUS at some point - they will probably HAVE to “man-up” and take the case immediately under original jurisdiction. No more hiding behind the skirts of their robes citing “lack of standing”.
SCOTUS would then be faced with a difficult choice - either rule that ALL children born in the United States are natural born [regardless of parentage or allegiance], subject to the exceptions for ambassador’s children, etc., or rule Obama NOT to be natural born.
If they rule that all children born in the United States are natural born - they open a door for a possible “agent provocateur” that the Founding Fathers were afraid of ...
If they rule Obama NOT to be natural born - they lay the groundwork for a possible Constitutional controversy and possible civil unrest.
Having read the applicable law at the time of the writing of the Constitution - I believe there would be btter than a 50-50 shot that he would be declared ineligible, BUT SCOTUS would rule that remedies could NOT be applied retroactively ...

Completely agree with unsealing the records — it’s important to the adoptee’s mental health frankly (even if it’s bad news - we imagine worse). And, I understand the organizations’ rules, even if I don’t like them myself...
If birth records were public records (as they started out as) then NONE of this would even be a question - regarding Obama’s eligibility, nor whether I would qualify for membership in the DAR! LOL
Besides, I don’t need a piece of paper to know that the lessons were handed down to me — through my Mom, Grandmother, and Grandfather, and I plan on continuing the tradition of strong, patriotic support of our Country and our Constitution anyway! :)
Thanks for your response! I’m hopefully going to be able to get my non-ID info. (nationality and such) within the next few months. Depending upon what I can find out (and whether my birth parents, or relatives have registered with the database in IL — which requires our health records to be submitted, or we pay $40.00), perhaps I will think about filing a request to unseal them in order to research my heritage... :)

Might not be a bad idea, doesn't hurt to try. I know of one case where someone had their records unsealed due to American Indian ancestry (wanted to join an Indian tribe). It worked, the records were unsealed. Probably sympathetic to the natives - lol.
Tell them you're suspicious you may have Indian ancestry and want to research the tribe you came from !!!
Since then, because of identity fraud and privacy issues, they have become off-limits to anyone who is not family.
