Attack on Jindal Aide Dismissed As Medical Call (Where is Gov. Jindal?)
New Orleans Time-Picayune ^ | Saturday, April 17, 2010 | Laura Maggi

Posted on 04/17/2010 12:13:31 PM PDT by kristinn

When news of last weekend's assault of Republican campaign fundraiser Allee Bautsch and her boyfriend broke on Monday, police logs detailing crimes and complaints reported in the French Quarter that night did not list the attack on the pair.

That's because the April 9 incident was first labeled a medical call, which meant no police report needed to be written. Indeed, according to the initial report released Friday by New Orleans police, it wasn't until Monday that a detective was assigned to investigate the incident -- in which Bautsch broke her leg and her boyfriend, Joseph Brown, broke his jaw.

Monday was also the day news reports and blogs began chattering about the attack, sometimes laden with the juicy possibility the attackers were anti-Republican protesters.

The initial incident report does not resolve the question of whether Bautsch and Brown were attacked by protesters, who had picketed the restaurant they were in earlier that night.

But the sequence of the NOPD's response to an attack that left Bautsch with a broken leg and Brown with a fractured jaw and nose, raises questions about why the department didn't deal with the incident as an assault from the get-go. Subsequent police statements and reports about the incident note that officers did respond to the scene, calling an ambulance to take Bautsch and Brown to the hospital.

NOPD spokesman Bob Young said the explanation is simple: The responding officer didn't know the extent of the couple's injuries. That officer knew the couple needed help and was told that Brown had been in a fight, but concentrated on getting them medical assistance, he said.

If the officer had known how badly they were hurt, the case would have been reclassified immediately as some kind of battery, Young said.

“However, it may have illustrated to those of us unfamiliar with Jindal that he is”

Well he's showing his true colors now. He's evidently been told to keep this quiet for some reason. He's certainly not presidential material.

“Well it might be a case where he accidentally hit his jaw on her leg, 4 times. Nothing to see here.”

that WOULD BE FUNNY IF IT WEREN’T SO SAD AN EVENT,

BUT YES THAT IS FUNNY.

He appears rudderless on this one. More than unfortunate. Allee's Mother played down the poltical angle during Fox News interview; am thinking she was probably ;advised' to do so; if she was going to speak publicly.

Where there should be a collective Republican howl. . .there is quiet.

Can only ask; 'Why, Jindal, why?

“I don’t know about the other threads, but Jindal has earned it on this one.”

Totally agree. I liked Bobby Jindal, but didn't know much about him. I was just going to do a search to see if I had miss something on Jindal’s response, but the fact that the police didn't even start an investigation until three days later, tells me there is something going on here.

another “let’s bash Jindal” thread

Go ahead. You have an opportunity to defend him... Please tell us that Jindal assigned state troopers to assist in the case when he heard about it. Saturday? Sunday?? Monday???

When did Jindal talk to the Chief of Police if ever? Saturday? Sunday?? Monday???

Please advise us what Jindal has done, and compare it to what a normal head of a company would have done for one of his employees. Go ahead.

"I don’t know about the other threads, but Jindal has earned it on this one."

Then please explain exactly what you contend is the problem with Jindal on this one, because the article didn't touch on that. Was Jindal supposed to be in the precinct checking patrol paperwork the night of the attack? What is it that you want done that Jindal was supposed handle and didn't?

As to why the NOPD didn’t start to investigate until the blog heat got too hot:

Someone is lying,

here in our emergency rooms the doctors by law have to immediately call the police if attack is suspected.

in which Bautsch broke her leg and her boyfriend, Joseph Brown, broke his jaw.

This writing makes it sound like the victims inflicted their injuries on themselves. I can't tell if it's a deliberate attempt to mislead or if the paper's writer is just not very good.

He's evidently been told to keep this quiet for some reason.

Do not agree at with 'taking the high road' or even the safe one, for that matter. But it may just be a case, of not making this an 'issue' lest it takes on an even uglier life of it's own; and more Repubs are targets.

Of course this is the same rationale used by Obama, Inc. when confronting our enemies. All for nought, of course; they smell weaknenss'; and it excites them. . .

Repubs are already stamped and approved targets for the Left; we have the Obama 'rainbow' on our heads. . .

This is as bad as Hussien saying “let’s not jump to conclusions”.

Some think that Jindal is presidental, I have never agreed and this cements that. He has no balls, smart guy but no guts.

“Where there should be a collective Republican howl. . .there is quiet.”

I thought the mother seemed to have been given a script also.

Where is the outrage from the Republicans and for that matter from the Democrats for a true crime of violence against free speech?

kristinn, Ross Perot sent a team into Iran; W plucked a Secret Service agent out of a scuffle.

Now isn't the time to go wobbly.

Governor Mr. niteowl77 would be freaking incensed over something like this, and I doubt the media filter would be fine enough to strain one blessed particle of my outrage from of this Democrat/Progressive thuggery.

No wonder people are drawn to Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann and Liz Cheney... those women don't scare worth a damn.

Mr. niteowl77

They didn’t cry like babies and claim their victimhood status? They were transported in an ambulance as a result of an attack and the police didn’t know they were hurt? Police are spinning this and spinning has no place in law enforcement. New Orleans Police need to watch Dragnet - just the facts ma’am.

Jindal is embarrassing himself on this. A leader supports his troops. It appears the same logic is being applied here that Obama did after the Ft. Hood killings. Let’s not rush to judgment. Let’s not state the obvious when some other remote possibility might account for the incident. Let’s downplay this and maybe it will go away. It’s not going away for the lady whose leg was broken in five places and to whom Jindal owes his political financial success.

Jindal has shown he is not a leader. One more Republican potential Pres/VP bites the dust.
