Orrin Hatch Names Hillary Clinton as Possible Supreme Court Nominee
CBS News ^ | 12 April, 2010 | Stephanie Condon

Posted on 04/12/2010 9:48:47 AM PDT by Ben Mugged

Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, one of the top Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Monday morning that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been mentioned as a possible nominee to the Supreme Court.

"I even heard the name Hillary Clinton today, and that would be an interesting person in the mix," Hatch said on NBC's "Today Show."

The senator said he would not pre-judge whether any potential nominee would be an appropriate candidate to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, but he had general praise for the secretary of state.

"I happen to like Hillary Clinton, I think she's done agood job for the Democrats -- Secretary of State's position," Hatch said, "and I have high respect for her, and think a great deal of her."

Hatch said the confirmation process for President Obama's nominee could go smoothly.

"If the president picks somebody who is clearly qualified, there is no question we can get that person through in a relatively short period of time," he said. "On the other hand, if he picks an activist judge... we ought to do everything in our power to defeat that person."

The short list of potential nominees is said to include Federal Appellate Judge Diane Wood, Solicitor General Elena Kagan and Federal Judge Merrick Garland.

Actually, the Wee Wee could probably do much worse than pick the
world's smartest and most charming woman. The Kenyan has
repeatedly demonstrated an uncanny knack for greatly exceeding my
worst expectations.

That’s pretty big talk for a guy (Hatch) on the spine replacement waiting list.

I can't believe they would nominate her. She has zero - ZERO - qualifications to be a Supreme Court Justice. She barely practiced law several decades ago and has never been a judge. What Constitutional experience does she have?

This is not a serious consideration.....

Utah is in serious need of two new senators. Several times over the years I've heard Hatch brag about how his working with Slick Willy to select SCOTUS nominees was an example of the bipartisanship needed between a president and the senators of the opposition party. That great example of 'bipartisanship' between Hatch and Slick brought us Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

We don't need Hatch's help in agreeing on any more SCOTUS nominees from Dim presidents. And is he still pushing the so-called Dream Act?

This is a fake-out / rope-a-GOP - they are going to float several loonies and while we’re distracted some no-name will come up - the looniest of all. The Senate will roll over and we’ll all pray the Supreme Court has no more vacancies for the next seven months.

The Peter Principle is alive and well, thank you. (This applies to both names in the quote.)

People like him are why I’m concerned about “republcans” taking back congress. I hope it’s not “republicans in name only”.

Hatch just likes making headlines, hasn’t the guts to make news or even opinions of his own, so he drops names that are candy to journalists of similar grit.

Gosh, we knew she was the most brilliant women in the world, to say nothing about the greatest female lawyer who ever past the Bar. Wait a minute, she also wouldn't know what the inside of a court room looked like. If I remember she has never defended or prosecuted a case of law in a court. Then again Obama never managed anything and look at him now! (Barf) Amen.

Evita is universally reputed as a liar and worse, yet the MSM continues to treat her in a way equivalent with politicians and other officials of demonstrated character and personal integrity.

NO distinction is made by the MSM. This is the same MSM which never hesitates to editorialize (in the most biased way possible) on the character or careers of Liberal public figures.

Couldn’t bring himself to mention someone from the GOP.

How about YOU name SOMEONE from the GOP that would stand a snow balls chance in hell of getting through now?

Sometimes, the devil we know is better than the ones we don't.

Face it, until we do what WE need to to - which we didn't in 2008 - and get the power in Congress/Senate out of the hands of the traitors, there is NO CHANCE a GOP conservative/lib or otherwise, will get through the process.

Hatch is just being pragmatic. "My way or the highway" doesn't work if you HAVE no way.

So lets dig in and fight every minute from now to Nov. and make sure OUR voices/choices will count. Give our reps the tools to work with...called a "MAJORITY".

Sitting here in FR being nattering nabobs doesn't accomplish a thing.)
