Polish president dies in air crash
A plane carrying Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president, has crashed near Smolensk airport in western Russia, killing all on board, Russian officials have reported.
Polish officials confirmed on Saturday that Kaczynski was on board the flight with his wife, as well as Slawomir Skrzypek, the president of Poland's central bank, Andrzej Kremer, the deputy foreign minister and the army chief of staff.
The crash occurred about 1.5km from Smolensk airport in foggy conditions.

I think its natural to think of subterfuge when a nations leader is on board a crash like this, but it seems like poor judgment concerning the weather conditions to me.
Its possible and I suppose it could be bad weather.
However, the Presidential aircraft of any developed nation such as Poland, is equipped with electronics and avionics to the point of redundancy and where the aircraft is pretty much capable of taking off and landing itself. Moreover, this type of aircraft is piloted and co-piloted by seasoned military personnel with a great deal of flying experience in weather conditions like heavy fog.

This has Putin’s signature all over it. Too bad it didn’t occur some place where people could really investigate the cause.

I’ve heard on different news sources that 100 to 130 are dead.
The coverage here is pathetic!

After reading that list my first thought was coup détat. If #23 is accurate, and I assume it is, then it wasn't a coup déta.

Truly a tragedy. Does anyone know if this is the same Polish President who took on the climate crazies at the UN last year?
To: lizol
Oh my word... that list is awesome.
I hate this happened and only pray it was not sabotage.
Prayers for your people. I have been on the Warsaw mailing lists for email for years.. always heard Poland is a great place to retire.

You've posted very interesting LINKS to news articles in your post #118. I wonder if the may indeed involve Russia's GAZPROM.

Good grief. That’s virtually the entire Polish government (and two religious leaders, as well). Incredible.
Prayers for them and for Poland.

We are very sad for you Matt. The irony that they were on their way to Katyn just adds to the grief we feel. Very tragic and sad. We pray for your people.

Why is it that the story is huge news in my opinion, but not to the leading tv news stations???

In the fog if the signal from the airport told the pilot he was flying higher than he was actually flying ......
.
To: BigSkyFreeper
Reuters reporting the same.

(snippet)
“..A Russian mission control official who had been present during conversations with the pilot told Reuters the pilot had ignored advice.
“The pilot was advised to fly to Moscow or Minsk because of heavy fog, but he still decided to land. No one should have been landing in that fog,” he said, on condition his name was not published.....”
easy to see where this one is going. I don’t buy it for one minute.
