In an effort to build its credibility and influence nationwide, the tea party movement on Thursday announced the formation of a "federation" of tea party groups.

Mark Shroder, a member of the Memphis Tea Party, told a crowd of roughly 200 conservative activists gathered outside the state capitol that 21 factions of the movement will form the National Federation Tea Party. Shroder said the federation will act as a "rapid response" to "misinformation" allegedly put forth by the "mainstream media."

I believe the individual members that make up the tea party are too smart to fall for the RINOs, I do not know anyone who gives money to any group, only individual candidates and I have no intention of giving to the tea party either. If this helps them target RINOs such as McCain etc, fine by me, but I gave to JD. If this helps the tea party do mass mail outs or university campus voter registration drives, fine by me, but if they endorse a candidate I will pay no attention just as I do not with the RNC.

This is NOT good. Once you form the ‘federation’ you start appointing ‘leaders’. Not good at all. I hope no other Tea Party groups join this. They’ve got to remain independent.

I agree. The Rochester Tea Party Movement is dead set against aligning ourselves under an umbrella organization. We don't take our marching orders from anybody!

Third parties are doomed.

This man is a fool and an irresponsible one at that- we’re in enough trouble, serious trouble- we surely don’t need MORE divisiveness.

America's Independent Party has not tried to astro-turf the Tea Party Movement. Instead, we have worked to serve and cultivate it, while continuing to point out to all of our conservative friends who are involved what we've always pointed out: that the fundamental reasons our free republic is being destroyed are not about money, they're about morality.

A good sign that a Tea Party activity (like this "Federation") is Republican astroturf is that they do think it's first and foremost and always about money. It's a huge tip off.

Good for him. I don’t want to disparage anyone, but I really got the idea from his gathering earlier this year that he was going to jump out in front of this movement and claim that he was the leader of it all.

No, a third party is a loser party. The TEA Party must take over the GOP and re-right it.

Is it possible we agree????? NOOOOOO!!!!!! ;)

But we do. And I have suspicions on who's attempting the hijacking.

Becoming a bonafide Political Party would be the death knell for this movement. I don’t think that people who live in “easy” ballot access states realize how hard it is to get folks on ballots in other states if you’re not a Dem or a Rep. — especially for a NATIONAL race.

I worked with a third-party (LP) for several years, and even though we enjoyed great success in our state for several years, on the National Level the roadblocks are WAY too great. The Republican Party (if it lived what it preached) is a closer match for me than ANYTHING on the “left” - hence why I’m an independent, but would rather work within the GOP to bring them “back to basics”.

Maybe I’m just a pessimist when it comes to 3rd parties (and it has nothing to do with “stolen votes” - as far as I’m concerned the votes don’t “belong” to one candidate or another, and votes aren’t “stolen” they are LOST for various reasons when it comes to those voting for a 3rd party candidate). What my pessimism stands for is the incredible bias in the media that prevents 3rd party candidates from at times even being included in published media polls, etc... (even if internal polls that include the candidate take equally from both sides). Forget being invited to the Candidate Forums with the LWV and such... You have to fight tooth-and-nail to be considered seriously even when you have a HUGELY strong candidate.

Agreed. The problem is that we now have two major pro-socialism parties. We need one fewer of those.

Who knows what goes on in somebodies head. He's a very dynamic speaker and as I said smart as the come.

I think I need to hear more on this to see where it's headed. Our local Tea Party is affiliated with other Tea Party's in our area, loosely.

Good luck. But what are you going to do when they won't let you, and all your strenuous effort and loyalty has been abused and used AGAIN to support liberals and liberalism?

I don’t want to start an argument among others on the thread, but just wanted to give you an FYI. When I worked on campaigns with the LP — our candidates pulled votes equally from BOTH main parties as evidenced by internal polling which included our candidate as compared to the “mainstream” media polls in which our candidate was so nicely ignored completely (even though we had him polling at over 15% early on, 15% undecided — in the published polls the “undecided or other” column hovered around 30-32%).

I am not part of the LP any longer, but it still ticks me off when people think that 3rd parties “steal” votes. The truth of the matter is, if people felt their representatives (no matter which party) were doing their jobs they would HAVE those votes, they wouldn’t LOSE them to another...

>Time for a 3rd PARTY?

I had an idea: The American Ammo Party.

This party could be all about the 2nd, 9th and 10th Amendments. Imagine, as a “free gift” for joining the party, you received plans/instructions for constructing your own full-auto firearm [not modding a previously existing one] just to spit in the face of the Federal Government’s ATF.

Sadly I don’t have the technical expertise to put together such plans.

“The tea party needs to keep the Republican’s off balance.”

I would say more of a moral compass. A guiding principle. A build it and they will come approach. Some will follow, and we have seen that already with the 100% No vote on Obamacare from the GOP. Others will continue to be lost on other issues, and they will have to be watching their poll numbers very carefully.

The good thing about having leaders who are dead is that not much can bee done to them by the living.
