Obama still can't throw [or name any players on his 'favorite' team, either]
American Thinker ^ | April 06, 2010 | Greg Halvorson

Yet another jaw-dropper for a president whose stock-in-trade is manufacturing a false image. Yesterday, after botching the first-pitch at the Washington Nationals' home-opener, the president was asked a simple question: Who, while growing up, was your favorite Chicago White Sock? Obama, who lived and worked in the Sox' South Side ‘hood, might have named a number of players-Bill Melton. Richie Allen. or Moe Drabowsky.

Instead, he whiffed. Seems the White Sox fan can't name a White Sock (and refers to the well known former Chicago landmark Comiskey part as "Cominsky" park). This is typical of Obama, who when not lecturing, is micro-managed to avoid conversation. When off-script, with real people, he isn't the One, enlightening the masses, he's a misinformed phony. The media, unfortunately, won't tell it like it is.

And the president still looks really bad tossing out the first pitch at the National's opening day game against the Phillies.

“When I played second base in little league baseball I idolized Nellie Fox, super 2nd baseman of the White Sox at the time.”

You are right! I think I am remembering correctly when I picture him on a topps baseball card with him posing with a big chew of tobacco in his cheek.

I was a Washington Senators fan in the 60’s to early 70’s...tough row to hoe.

Obama is the “idiot” that Bush is supposed to be.

That's got all the makings of a great tagline!

Who, while growing up, was your favorite Chicago White Sock?

Why would he have a favorite White Sox player while he was growing up in Indonesia and Hawaii? He didn't move to Chicago until after he graduated from Columbia.

Durn right he doesn't know. The only reason he even shows his face at a baseball game at all is to get yet more face time, to add to his own record number of days in a row his mug is all over the TV, relentlessly, day after day, with no respite for us poor subjects.

When this jerk was elected, I thought at least I could escape from him with sports. No such luck. He's all over baseball, the NFL, the NCAA, final four, "public service announcements" during commercial breaks, and we have to hear about his mediocre bracket picks for days on end, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. There seems to be literally nowhere one can go without being exposed to his stomach-turning visage. I'm past the point of physical illness whenever I'm exposed to him in any way. And just think -- only 33 and a half more months to go of intensive daily doses of this guy. Be still, my roiling stomach.

Good memory recall, I think ol’ Nellie even slept with that giant chaw of tobacco. I never saw a photo of him without it.

I'm sure he's been staying up late memorizing everything about every player who ever played for the White Sox. He will then force himself into a play by play situation and here's how it will go:

"Well, Bill, there's ball four and the hitter takes his base with no outs in the bottom of the first inning. That reminds me, that back in 1975 when I was a kid and a great fan of the White Sox, pitcher Claude Osteen, who threw and batted left just like me, weighed 160 pounds, was 5'11", and was born on August 9th, 1939, in Caney Springs, Tennessee, near Chapel Hill. That year he went 7 and 16, throwing 204.1 innings (I'm not sure how he threw a tenth of an inning) in 37 appearances. His ERA (whatever that is) was 4.36. In his last year in the major leagues, he gave up 237 hits, 110 runs and 99 earned runs (I think that has something to do with that ERA thing) walked 92 and struck out just 63. At the plate, he was 0 for 0 in 37 games. He had no walks, never struck out even once, no singles, no doubles, no triples, no home runs, no RBIs which has something to do with runs, and his batting average was .000. Oh, there's a line drive back to the pitcher for out number three. So, at the end of three innings, we have a scoreless tie, which is really the way I like to see things come out. No one wins or loses."

So, he’s not into sports. I favor the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL because I like their mascot (which I regard as honoring the martial prowess of my Norwegian forebearers), and in MLB the Phillies, simply because I like Philadelphia, where I went to grad school, but I can’t name a single player on either team because I’m not really into sports.

Would that that were Obama’s greatest failing, that he can’t name players on teams he backs!

Would that that were Obama’s greatest failing,

On his way to the mound 0bama stepped on the foul line (chalk line) that runs from home plate to first base and on to the right field foul pole. A no no for most baseball players. It is bad luck.

In 20 years of playing ball I never stepped on a foul line, I made sure I stepped over it with my left foot first.

Any other superstitious ball players out there?

Cominsky?? Seriously? And he can’t name one player?? Damn, I’m not at all a fan of the White Sox and I can name at least one player. Peavy. Buehrle. Garcia. Jenks. Pierzynski. Konerko.

What an idiot. And he throws like a girl. In mom jeans. Gah, that’s embarrassing.

Here's the difference between you and the Pres: you're not dissembling and putting on airs about "following" sports. Having touted his own status as sports fan, the Pres is once again caught short by a simple question about his fanhood.

I followed the Twins as a fan in the '60's. It's not hard for any self-professing fan of that era to recall instantly guys like Harmon Killebrew, Bob Allison, Lenny Green, Dick Stigman, Jack Kralick, Zoilo Versalles, . . .

Obama swings and misses at Sox lore
Blame Rahm Emanuel for team’s No. 1 fan dropping the ball during interview

John Kass

April 7, 2010

What’s happening to President Barack Obama, America’s No. 1 White Sox fan, is just absolutely terrible.

OK, sure, the poor guy committed a grievous baseball sin. But now he’s taking a beating, the kind Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano would give his own catcher, or maybe his manager.

It almost reminds me of the time CBS’ Katie Couric sweetly asked Sarah Palin what she liked to read. Palin drew a blank and reporters never let her live it down.

But I say, let’s leave the poor president alone. After all, he’s a White Sox fan, isn’t he?

Obama’s troubles started Monday after he threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals home opener.

He threw lefty and missed the plate, which wasn’t surprising. What was surprising is what happened after he joined announcer Rob Dibble in the booth for some happy talk.

Dibble commented on Obama’s hat — a nicely faded black Sox cap — which the president proudly wore on the mound reminding all of us once again of the heroic team from Chicago that has actually won a World Series in the past 100 years.

Dibble asked the fateful question, one so easy that Hawk Harrelson would have called it a “can of corn.”

Dibble: “Who was one of your favorite White Sox players growing up?”

My husband and I were watching my youngest learn to ride his bike last weekend and we were talking about raising our boys and the things as parents we were obligated to teach them. As if we fail to teach these things we fail as parents...

A few were...

riding a bike
swimming
baseball
shooting a gun
fishing

etc, etc...

Baseball is pretty high on the list - the 8 year old wasn’t real interested in playing, but I forced it(He loves it now after he went to his first practice). Boys (and girls) need to learn how to throw a ball... No wussy-ass 0bama throws allowed....
