Was there today for a church service. Heard about the Mexico Mission Outreach.

My daughter graduated APU in 2007, my son-in-law in 2008. They are living near the school, my daughter is working in downtown LA. They are still close to the APU family of friends and teachers.
Couldn't believe the students were so near the ep. center in Mexico today. Thank God they all seem to be fine.
God is faithful.
Good to hear from a freeper from APU.

Not me, I’m on the far side of the continent :-) Had live reports on IRC from San Diego, Baja, and Phoenix tho.

Its still pretty. View from my office:

Yep it sure is...we have 160 acres just north of Bishop on highway 6 (Benton Crossing)...so drive 395 regularly from LA area...that area is gorgeous...

I've been back in Idaho since Feb 6th. I did put 7,000 miles on the Versys in 6 months before I brought it home to Idaho. Now, I have to wait for "free" time and dry streets to ride the bike. We are still having sub-freezing nights and 2-3 inch overnight snow falls. It's Spring.

My mom has a 52" plasma TV on a big TV table in her living room. I called to make sure it didn't get toppled in the quake. It's a 2 person task to lift it off the table. She's 82 and hardly up to dealing with something that big.

“Bldgs in most other states would not withstand earthquakes here.”

Three of the problems would be unreinforced brick walls, minimal sheer reinforcements in walls, and poor anchorage of structures to footings.

California has had strong codes concerning those aspects of construction, for a long time.

Long Beach quake in the 30s damaged brick buildings, and some loss of life. 1971 quake was the start of push for better cods.

Bridges for freeways have proved to be weak points.

That is fascinating...

On the Channe 7 show after the quake...they talked to a manager that was on the 46th floor of a downtown Los Angeles building and he said it was very intense....rocked the elevators and cracks in the stairwell...rocked the building also. They evacuated the building going down the stairs...

Seems like this quake was too distant to cause that much action.

Building had special designed stuff for earthquakes also....

Don't have anymore detail than that.

Know Tom's Place well....spent my youth fishing and hunting in the area between Bishop...Bridgeport and the Nevada border....:o) Here is a look from our property 30 miles north of Bishop facing the White Mountains...
