(LAS VEGAS) Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada canceled giving his testimony at an LDS fireside last Sunday night because of angry calls, e-mails and even threats. The Democratic Senator is a member of the LDS Church and was invited to offer remarks at an LDS fireside at the Tule Springs Stake in Las Vegas. The fireside on Why I Believe was canceled after the threats were made. His press secretary said there were no threats of violence initiated against Reid but he canceled because of the threats against his invitation to speak. Sen. Reid received a warm welcome at BYU in October, 2007 and stands firm on his religious and political views. Reid has become a lightening rod in partisan bickering and faces defeat in his home state of Nevada in the upcoming November election. BYU political science professor Kelly Patterson says Reid hasnt changed his position for years. UVU Professor Boyd Peterson is a Democrat and teaches Mormon literature at the university and says several Church leaders are Democrats. Some have asked if LDS Church leaders will speak about politics and civility at this weekends conference but no official statement has been issued.
You obviously have an agenda to push, I’m not biting.
In any case, Reid is neither a patriot, nor serving our country’s best interests. And I don’t believe for a second he is worried. I’ve seen him at the movie theater in Vegas, with 4 Secret Service members, I’m sure he’d be fine speaking at a church, he is probably afraid of the electorate...they don’t like him.
Many never did, myself included.
Correct.
Excellent point!
Goes to prove that some Democrats must be at least semi-literate. We all know if a conservative had made a threat we would be reading about an arrest and a new money raising scheme.
A univeristy that actually strives to teach their students as opposed to indoctrinate them, will provide speakers from all sides of an issue and will be polite to those speakers who disagree with the majority view of the university. That's the way its supposed to work.
As to the accusation that BYU has not given Glenn Beck a platform to speak, here's something you apparently missed:

So, Harry Reid was allowed to speak his opinion but Glenn Beck was given an award.
Indeed.
Oh, WOW....while I don't condone the actions of Hardy, the fact that one can strain at gnats and swallow camels, in excusing Reid and the implied approval of his actions by the mormon church is appalling!
So, the fact that Reid hasn't signed the BYU honor code excuses his having NO honor at all, even though he still holds a temple recommend?
Okayyy...!
Apparently from your post, there is no difference in the actual damage done by Hardy versus the actual damage done to the country and every single citizen in it by Reid. Your approval of Reid STILL being "worthy" to perform temple ordinances says much, whether about you personally, or about your church is not my call, but one would expect that some "worthy" priesthood holders would be examining their outlook and their faith.
Good for Beck. While I'm not fond of his persona, I approve of some of the things he has accomplished, and applaud his award.
LOL!
OH PU! This stinks to high heaven and is really starting to get completely unbelievable.
So, because someone or group tolerates the expression of an opinion they or the majority of the group disagrees with, that is a tacit endorsement of the opinion? Please. In the grand scheme of things, universities are supposed to be institutions of higher learning. Just because the left seeks to ban our point of view from schools and elsewhere, doesn’t mean that we should do the same. We either believe in the Freedom of Speech and the Constitution or we don’t. To do anything else would bring us to their level.
Harry Reid adressed the entire BYU Faculty and Staff at BYU, which IS controlled by LDS leadership.
I am not concerned with BYU's honor code, but the LDS Church's lack of enforcement for Reid on STANDARD TEMPLE RECOMMEND INTERVIEW QUESTIONS. Lack of discipline is tacit approval. As Ezra Taft Benson used to say "The middle of the road between good and evil is evil."
Ezra Taft Benson to Harry Reid in one generation....And led by an unchanging God ?....I don't think so.
And where in the story does it say that Mr. Reid actually has a temple recommend? One can be a Mormon without holding one.
Harry Reid VOTES and LEADS and ADVOCATES for abortion and marxism, and the LDS church allows him to retain his membership because they want POWER more than righteousness.
It's not only the mormons who have done this, though, just look at the Catholics with Kerry and the Kennedys.
Happy Easter...
Good Friday...
The day Jesus shed His Precious Blood on the Cross at Calvary and died on the Cross to redeem whomever will... John 3:16
Nothing but the Blood that Jesus shed ON THE CROSS can save us...
:)
I’ve been singing The Old Rugged Cross all day
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So Ill cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.
So Ill cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
So Ill cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then Hell call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever Ill share.
So Ill cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
And fo5 your listening pleasure and edification...

This is what that RINO Romney boasted to the guy in the radio station in Iowa (I think it was Iowa) in Jan 2008...
Romney kept arguing with the poor man...
Mormonism = Indoctrination City
You can also be a home teacher without a temple recommend.
The Temple-recommend-carrying Reid is very active in his church, say fellow members in the Washington area.
Only the most obedient of Mormons are given "temple recommends." These recommends allow faithful members access to the Church's sacred temple ceremonies. Harry Reid, despite his vocal and public support for legislation that provides federal funds for abortion, is known to have such a "temple recommend."

I have a really hard time believing that the "Mormon of the Year" would NOT have a temple recommend...how 'bout you?
Times and Seasons 2009 Mormon of the Year: Harry Reid
While Reids faith is not always discussed as much as that of other Mormon politicians, he remains an active member of his ward. In recent years he has helped the Church on some crucial issues, including helping to broker a compromise over Martins Cove. Reid spoke openly about his faith in a 2007 address at Brigham Young University and touched on his conversion and beliefs in his recently published memoir. A fixture in Nevada politics who has dedicated his life to public service for decades, Reid has long advocated that one can consistently be both a Democrat and a Mormon.
So, since the church has yet to excommunicate Mr. Reid, they whole heartedly endorse abortion on demand, huh? I suppose all of the people in your church are 100% pure and anything that one of them does or believes in is 100% representative of you, your opinions and that of your church?
