EMAIL FRIEND | PRINT ARTICLE | 45 COMMENTS | SHARE March 24, 2010 Amish, Muslims to be excused from Obamacare mandate? WordWayze The Senate health care bill just signed contains some exemptions to the "pay-or-play" mandate requiring purchase of Obamacare-approved health insurance or payment of a penalty fine. As Fox News has pointed out, for instance, the Amish are excused from the mandate:
So while most Americans would be required to sign up with insurance companies or government insurance plans, the church would serve as something of an informal insurance plan for the Amish.
Law experts say that kind of exemption withstands scrutiny.
"Here the statute is going to say that people who are conscientiously opposed to paying for health insurance don't have to do it where the conscientious objection arises from religion," said Mark Tushnet a Harvard law professor. "And that's perfectly constitutional."
Apparently, this exemption will apply similarly to believers in Islam, which considers health insurance - and, for that matter, any form of risk insurance - to be haraam (forbidden).

And we are surprised by this because???
;-)
Yeah, sure does. It always struck me as very odd — why pick on this extremely small and obscure industry? Why single them out for punishment? I guess I’m just not Machiavellian enough. It makes perfect sense.
My Pastor would happily certify that participating in an insurance pool which pays for the murder of unborn children violates a fundamental tenet of my religion. Were one or two Catholic Bishops (or their equivalent authorities in Protestant denominations) to do the same, the citizenry of America could gut this hideous monster.

or a camel ??? 8^}
billion/trillions of dollars worth of ‘insurance’ has been shipped to his buddies back home for decades...why should they need insurance if they are more or less the deep pockets themselves...???
I use a straigtening iron and I NEED a tanning bed. ;)
Good question. How can the government select one or two religions to exempt from a government mandate? The very idea that they would do so is unconstitutional. But in this day and age they interpret the constitution as they please.
If the courts do not shoot this monstrosity down there are no checks and balances in government. We will be a socialist/communist state.
Rats!
We will certainly be more statist.
I am convinced that much of what we are seeing, both domestic and foreign policywise, is 0bama’s payback to his sponsors, the Saudis: “I will stand with the Muslims” etc.
He always finds ways to give them special status.
Thank you for your post.
Btt
The line forms at the rear!.....*G*
Good tag BTW..
On religious grounds? Then Catholics should be exempted too, on religious grounds. ;-)
We are against abortion, corruption, lying......etc...
