My wife and oldest son spent the weekend protesting in Washington last weekend along with thousands of other tea party patriots. The following email could not have been more badly timed!
http://www.autism-society.org is their website. Here is the email:
Dear Sharie,
Late yesterday, in a historic vote, the House of Representatives passed the Senate version of the health-care reform bill. This is exciting news for the Autism Society and families affected by autism. Once the bill is signed by President Obama, which is expected to happen early this week, the new law will be a great step towards ensuring that all people with autism have access to health-care. The bill will require coverage for habilitative care as well as behavioral health treatments. To learn more about how this bill impacts families with autism, please click here.
Sincerely, Jeff Sell Vice President, Public Policy Autism Society
Here was my wife's response:
Dear Mr. Jeff Sell,
I have unsubscribed to your email list after the glowing email you sent praising the health care reform. I am disgusted. I have two sons who have autism. I have fought for them for 8 years and they have come a very very long way. My husband and I have private insurance and have paid well over $70,000 in specialists and clinics etc to help our children get where they are today. While I'm sure you see this burden everyday to families like mine, your solution will only harm families and future children who are diagnosed with autism. It would have been a nightmare to deal with the federal government to get all the care my children have received the last 8 years. The cost of our country now truly embracing socialism and socialized health care will only limit and interrupt the care my children need in addition to changing the cherished fabric this country was sewn together on. We must fight socialism in all its forms. A country big enough to give you everything is also big enough to take it away.
If you truly cared about me and my husband and our twins you would advocate for choice in private health care insurance. If we could shop around, compare prices, add or subtract services specific to our families needs and allow the free market to compete for our business, we would be much better off than putting the care of my children in the hands of a government run health care plan.
My family and I are among millions who are fighting to repeal this incredible reach into the private lives of American citizens. This bill had nothing to do with helping my autistic children reach their true potential. This was a power grab by an administration and congress drunk with socialist ideals taking over the care of my life and the lives of my very very special sons.
Eventually panels will be put in place to determine those that will be approved for care and those that will not. If and when there is a test to determine that an unborn child has autism what do you think the recommendation will be? Currently, 75% of unborn babies who are diagnosed with downs syndrome are aborted because they have a DNA test to determine this condition. Special children are a burden to insurance companies and will be a burden to this health care reform. What a cost cutting move it will be to just make sure they are never given life. Think it won't happen? Guess again.
Regards, Sharie Cincinnati, Ohio
All of the “Associations” see this bill as one, great big, giant teat.
ya ...more money down a rat hole..
I truly feel bad for those who believe this legislation will help their loved ones access better care. Raising that hope, I believe, is cruel, and if SF Nan, obama, and their associates don’t know better they should. It’s disgraceful.
Beautiful response letter.
Don’t frget that the obummer care plan will eventually call for if not require the abortion of a fetus not believed to be perfect.
It will most definitely disallow medical treatment to those who are deemed to be a waste of money.
Autism, cerebral palsy.....and what else?
This has been the problem with the arguments leading up to the vote. ALL people, whether with autism, or any other medical condition, have access to health-CARE in this country. Some people have had trouble finding health INSURANCE, which is an entire different matter. This legislation might help them with being able to GET insurance, but it's certainly not going to help them with being able to AFFORD it, because everyone's rates are going up.
The Dems have tried to obfuscate the issue by making health-CARE and health Insurance interchangeable in the discussion, but apparently haven't been completely successful, because almost 60% of those polled are against what the Dems did on Sunday night. Whether this will result in those Dems being voted out of office in November remains to be seen. I guess that's up to US to keep the issue in front of the voters until then.
I agree...the most pathetic and enraging part of this is the dereliction of duty and outright collusion by the mass media with the leftists...if there were actually any real news people out there in the mainstream media, Hussein would never have been elected and we would not be enduring this...heaven help us all
My current insurance covers an hour a week of both speech and occupational therapy. I don't like the idea of a government mandating to insurance companies what they can and can't cover. It all comes down to this: Do you trust your government? That's a selling point that even liberals should understand.
Yes, Fox radio is playing a sound bite from a woman who chokingly talks about the surgery she needs and will now get.
It will be sad when she realizes that she will still have to wait.
I would be given so much power if I could shop for health insurance. What cards I could hold with a “Either adapt and provide what my children need or I will look for another plan...” For parents with autistic kids the difference speech and OT make when they are in preschool can truly determine the outcome. If I could have found a plan that was geared for those services we would have been better off. OR a plan that had a deal worked out with our local children's hospital autism clinic allowing us to add this as a special option to add to a basic plan we could personalize the plan to our families unique needs. With this option the 8K we currently spend every year just for insurance could really help my children.
Sharie
P.S. Hoodat, may you find incredible treasure in raising a special child. The lessons in unconditional love and acceptance have made me a richer and more grateful person.
This seems to be obama’s MO. Every few months he makes promises that he can never keep, and people trust him all over again.

New science has proven the plasticity of brain and heart tissue to intervention efforts where new cell growth was deemed impossible. It looks to me that these facts suggest some opportunity to reverse symptoms of autism in adults and children. Vitamin D deficiency during & after pregnancy, iron overload from 12 months of age and subsequent hypochlorhydria are the primary underlying causes.

We are retired military with a child who has an autism spectrum diagnosis. It was difficult to get OT and speech therapy for him under government medical care AKA Tricare. I wish all these people luck doing better. They will need it.
Thank you for your service. My sons didn’t talk until they were 3.5 years old.. with two years of intensive speech and ot they were able to enter traditional kindergarten classes, something we didn’t think they were going to be able to do... speech and ot are not tanigibles like medicine or blood tests and are easily dismissed as “extra”
Kids start liver iron loading at about 12 months. The liver defends against further iron loading by secreting hepcidin. Hepcidin down regulates stomach acid production to reduce iron loading. Incomplete digestion and absorption of unnaturally large proteins is the result. The kid’s immune system stays on high alert to attack the undigested proteins. Liver iron loading interferes with the hydroxylation of d3 and dysregulates the entire immune mechanism.
