In Team America: World Police, the first Hollywood-financed movie inspired by the U.S. invasion of Iraq and its attendant political controversy, South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone dispatched a squad of U.S. guerrillas all in marionette form to take down an Axis of Evil dictator and, in the process, slaughter the real villains of the piece: a bunch of self-important celebrities who had publicly opposed the U.S. policy. One of these stars is Matt Damon, who is portrayed as such an idiot that all his dialogue consists of is his grinning stupidly while saying, "Matt Damon!" The puppet Damon ends up dead, his head snapped by a Team America hero.
The real Matt Damon didn't fare much better as the star of the new Green Zone: he went looking for the truth about Iraq's WMDs, and got blown up by the IED of public indifference.

That’s okay..Freepers know how to read Freeper language!
Besides with the health bill issue going on fingers travel fast on the keyboard to get the latest or opinions out there. This is the time and place now..we either beat this or mourn the loss of out country as we have known it.
Yes you are right...those who are speaking out are the ones who have already made their millions...and stardom. It’s now the power they can weld. It is still all about them...egos are so high they go off the map!
Unfortunately box office is not longer their target. After leaving the dark side the late great actor Ron Silver fielded the question of basically why Hollywood makes movies that the audiences don’t want, especially anti American ones. He said that they don’t care for high box receipts like they used to do but are now centered on DVD sales and foreign releases. That’s where the money is now so they dont have to care what we want.
Earn: Fourteen million
Cost: Two hundred plus million
Lesson learned: Priceless Absolutely Nothing
$230m for just blowing stuff up, no advanced special effects? That’s way too high, I’d be surprised if it was more than $100 or so.
I just love the “Team America” reference. America, F Yeh! Here we come to save the motherf’in day yeh!
Ha, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are some of my favorite people out of Hollywood because they satirize both sides. Unlike the idiots at Family Guy, who almost seem to have a leftist agenda. I still love the cartoon, but I just think South Park is much smarter.
The once conservative Hollywood icon who helmed Passion of the Christ is today a drunken philanderer. He belongs with that crowd.
I don't know where this $230 mil figure appeared. Not even Avatar cost that much. The best I can find for the reported budget of The Green Zone was, as you said, around $100 mil. Still a lot of cash for a $14.5 opening weekend (which is, sadly, $2 million better than The Hurt Locker's entire theatrical run).
The problem is that as long as stars keep getting rewarded with these UN Ambassadorships, they are going to keep doing it.
I’ve worked on film sets with Matt Damon:
Matt Damon is no American Solider.
Matt Damon is smaller (height/weight) than the average American, much smaller than the average American Soldier (including females).
Matt Damon doesn’t do his own stunts.
Matt Damon was a writer before he was an actor.
Good. Don’t forget the classics- they had sound themes (but they also had a Production Code;)
I was basically forced into seeing it this weekend. It was, simply put, crap.
The only POSITIVE thing I can say about it is that at least the CIA is painted positively.
Other than that, we lied about WMD. That’s the entire plot - Bush lied, people died. Seriously.
Do NOT spend your hard earned dough on that show.
Today I talked a big Matt Damon fan out of seeing it in the theater, saying she could see it on a Rebox DVD in two months. < / cha-ching >
from the article: $130 million production budget plus $100 million marketing budget.
Agreed. I read this: Psalm 1:1 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Then I looked around to find who were ungodly, sinners, and scornful. I included Hollywood in that lot, then stopped walking, standing, and sitting with them.
With a high school graduation rate of 25%, might as well.
Thanks. I missed that when I first skimmed the article. $100 million marketing? Damn! That's a lot of money for a film I've barely heard of (and I actually keep up on entertainment issues).
I dont think they’ve learned the lesson yet.
I loved the Bourne movies!
