Punishment for armed self-defense still the norm in NYC and DC
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 14 March, 2010 | David Codrea

Two letters to the editor concerning some of our more notorious citizen disarmament zones point to an ongoing outrage:

Sullivan Law Justice

I could scarcely believe my eyes when I saw this news item in one of our local newspapers. I believe it will shock anyone who has any sense of justice. "New York. AP- A bandit entered Victor Comancho's west side grocery store Sunday night and drew a gun. Comancho whipped out his own gun, fired, and the bandit fell.

"Police identified the dead bandit as Raymond Brugueras, who had been arrested before on narcotics charges. Comancho was charged with homicide and violation of the weapons law."

John Walton Lawrence, Kansas

----

Not Only In New York

The enclosed clipping is an example of a citizen defending himself when the police couldn't. (And then look what happened!) "Washington, D.C.-James E. Weatherington, a bus driver, was held up and robbed in 1956. Since then, he has carried a gun. Last night, three teenagers rode his bus to the end of the line and then, when Weatherington was alone, attacked him. One boy looped a piece of baling wire around Weatherington's neck, and the others jumped him. Weatherington pulled a pistol from his belt and fired a shot, striking one boy in the groin. His companions dragged him from the bus and fled.

"About an hour later, the boy was brought to a hospital by his mother. Police questioned him, later arrested his companions. All were charged with assault with intent to commit robbery. Weatherington was charged with carrying a deadly weapon. Police said they approved of the results of yesterday's encounter, but had to charge him with violating the law."

That's what they get for not being "only ones"?

Last I knew, NYS still has its duty-to-retreat law on the books.

I firmly believe the definition in NY is ...

SELF DEFENSE... help the perp carry out the TV

Sounds like this country’s two greatest cities have re-assymilated to the Jolly Old England the founding fathers paid so dearly to separate us from.

The only hope for these victims is that they get jurors who will refuse to convict them of these bogus charges.

An American jury should be able to properly decide this one.

Could these gentlemen petition for a Grand Jury hearing and when the Grand Jury is done dismissing the case, have them go after repealing the stupid law. From my understanding, the Grand Jury is virtually unlimited in it pusuits and recommendations and actually trumps all others (as the Founders intended).

Such may influence the Supreme Court, now considering the McDonald case, to make itself much more clear about the intent of the verdict in Heller. DC & NYC et al won't like it.

When there are no consequences for criminals like these punks, then the criminal activities will not cease.

The citizens must protect themselves when the justice system continues to work against the honest resident.

In the case cited I wouldn't count on the Grand Jury dismissing the case...particularly if the jurors are from the *Upper* West Side.

Wuss-consin is the same way. If there is ANY way of getting out of the house without confronting the perp, you MUST use it. Even if it means leaving your family members at the mercy of thugs! The use of of deadly force is legal only if the criminal cuts your throat or shoots you first! They say to call police, you know, they’ll be there in minutes, when SECONDS count!!!

"New York. AP- A bandit entered Victor Comancho's west side grocery store Sunday night and drew a gun. Comancho whipped out his own gun, fired, and the bandit fell.

After carefully wiping down his weapon and wrapping the dead perp's hands around it, he takes it back and puts it down on the countertop. When the police arrive, he tells them "I was fortunate enough to see him distracted and take his pistol from his hand. But he pulled out another one, so I had to shoot him in self defense, in fear for my life".

This may sound plausible, in a fiction novel sense, but in reality, forensic techniques have advanced so far that there is little chance of avoiding detection. If you were justified in shooting, the physical evidence will agree with your story. We must fight the unconstitutional laws in the legislature and the courts and in the court of public opinion. In the Nation, we are winning.

Agreed. Some where at some point someone will have to make the stand. Get the law reversed and establish precedent.
