Jerusalem (CNN) -- A 23-year-old American activist stands in front of an Israeli bulldozer in Gaza. The bulldozer drives over her, crushing her to death. These are the facts.
Rachel Corrie, along with colleagues from the International Solidarity Movement, was trying to prevent Israel from bulldozing homes in Rafah, close to the Egyptian border. Her activism cost her her life in March 2003.
A colleague said at the time, "Many times the bulldozer came up to us and buried us with dirt, but they always stopped."
Corrie's parents want to know the truth about their daughter's death, whether the killing was intentional and who is accountable.
Craig and Cindy Corrie's civil suit against Israel's defense ministry starts in Haifa, Israel, on Wednesday -- a court date that took years to reach.
"The more we found out, the more likely that the killing was intentional, or at least incredibly reckless," Craig Corrie said. "And, as a former soldier, I was even in charge of bulldozers in Vietnam... You're responsible to know what's in front of that blade, and I believe that they did."
The Israeli military carried out a month-long investigation, which found no Israeli soldier was to blame.
"The armored bulldozer crew involved in the incident did not see Ms. Corrie, who was standing behind the mound of earth, and was unable to see her or hear her voice," the military said.

Yes, being in front of the blade of a moving bulldozer is definitely the wrong side of the bulldozer to be on.
I've often wondered, if a group decided they would stand in front of every car on the road to protest burning gasoline, how many of them would end up "accidentally" run over.
(shamelessly stolen from a previous St. Jemimah thread...)
Yes! Darwin Award! I had exactly that same thought.
Who’s accountable? Easy. Saint Pancake stood her dumb ass in front of an armored Cat D9 and got it run over. PASS THE BISQUICK!

Her Parents were understandably deflated when they got the news that Rachael had flatlined after the incident, and were hard pressed to explain why they no longer frequent the neighborhood IHOP or accept rollover minutes from AT&T.
From time to time we should all think about what we would be willing to die for.
I am just sad that she set her standard so low.
OK, that’s funny!
Gives the name ‘bleeding hearts” a new meaning... Poor bleeding hearts believe that if they offer their own lives up “to the cause”, that they can generate a kind of “then they’ll be sorry” response and stop the “inhumanity”, only to find, nobody really cares all that much. The image is like a child that throws a temper tantrum, dashing herself to the floor to garner sympathy, only to get a spanking.
Here is an answer........teach your children not to stand in front of operating construction equipment....and always wear clean underwear.....
"It looks just like her... from the SIDE."
Whatever happened, standing near large, operational bulldozers is extremely dangerous under any circumstance. I’ve worked around them and always made sure to stay a goodly distance away.
That being said, I have little sympathy for this nutjob that got herself killed. And I say nutjob, because only a nutjob would fly all the way from America to stand in front of a Israeli bulldozer in Gaza for some ridiculous “cause”.
I’ve met folks like this before while I was in college, and recognize the symptoms. I knew one college girl whose creed was not to kill any living creature. She would let mosquitoes drink her blood and croon, “Have a drink little mosquito.” Even as young as I was then, I knew better than to attempt rational conversation with her.
Knowing what I know now, it would probably have been easy enough to literally drive her to insanity by explaining how her body killed billions of little animals every minute as they tried to invade and destroy her. I also know I wouldn’t have wanted to do that to her.
(I’ve also noticed that the nutjob guys seem to take to the high seas for adventures like crashing their tiny boats into giant Japanese sea trawlers, while the nutjob females tend to find land-based “causes” to sacrifice themselves for.)
They’re ignoring the most basic rule of a campaign of endless litigation — time gives the advantage to the defendant, not the plantiff.
She was a victim of her own raging hate. Good riddance.
That depends on how many errands I have to run that day. If someone would be kind enough to tell me in advance, I'll save up all my errands for that day.
