What a Disaster Looks Like - ObamaCare will have been a colossal waste of time—if we’re lucky.
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 4, 2010 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 03/06/2010 1:16:12 PM PST by neverdem

It is now exactly a year since President Obama unveiled his health care push and his decision to devote his inaugural year to it—his branding year, his first, vivid year.

What a disaster it has been.

At best it was a waste of history’s time, a struggle that will not in the end yield something big and helpful but will in fact make future progress more difficult. At worst it may...

--snip--

Does anyone believe this? Does anyone who knows the ways of government, the compulsions of Congress, and how history has played out in the past, believe this? Even a little? Rep. Bart Stupak said Thursday that he and several of his fellow Democrats won’t vote for the Senate version of the bill because it says right there on page 2,069 that the federal government would directly subsidize abortions. The bill’s proponents say this isn’t so. It would be a relief to have a president who could weigh in believably and make clear what his own bill says. But he seems to devote more words to obscuring than clarifying.

The only thing that might make his assertions sound believable now is if a group of congressional Republicans were standing next to him on the podium and putting forward a bill right along with him. Which, obviously, won’t happen, for three reasons. First, they enjoy his discomfort. Second, they believe the bill is not worth saving, that at this point no matter what it contains—and at this point most people can no longer retain in their heads what it contains—it has been fatally tainted by the past year of mistakes and inadequacies.

And the third reason is that the past decade has taught them what a disaster looks like, and they’ve lost their taste for standing next to one.

Yes. Obama’s failure, messy as it is, will be the best outcome of all this. His success is too horrible to contemplate.

Yhe Peter Principle is not working in the case of dear President Soetoro. A person rises till he reaches his level of incompetence and gets stuck at that level. This fellow reached that level several levels ago and kept rising.

Here’s my analysis of Dame Peg Noonan.

Her “secret sauce” has always been a claim on her part to be able to see, feel, read, and explain the invisible (to others) subtext of the otherwise indecipherable circus parade that is American Politics.

One year ago, that subtext supposedly said that Zero was by turns, “cool”, “post-racial”, “an intellectual”, etc. etc.

And Dame Peg dutifully reported this.

Now, one year later, the subtext is now saying that Zero is a moron, out of touch, and a bit bizarre.

And now Peg is so informing us.

Put another way, she goes whatever way the wind is blowing, making her, at best, a weathervane.

This is not the way the system is supposed to work. This is not the American government we grew up with. This is not the national ethos that we love.

Yet Obama pushes on, perfectly cognizant of what he's doing, intentionally upending the American Way. This is a form of mania -- megalo- or otherwise. And, by any and all legitimate means, it must be stopped.

Thanks for your link. Check this one. I believe that it was written by a psychiatrist who uses the pen name of James Lewis.

It’s wasted an incredible amount of time, money and caused tremendous anger. Millions of productive hours have been lost over this loser “reform” and this absolute LOSER “Pres__ent”

She was specifically referring to Congressional Republicans.

She replied viscerally to Palin.
She responded emotionally to Obama.
Like all elitist snobs, she spewed forth a blizzard of rationalization as to why a man with no experience, who celebrated his nomination in a stadium decked out to look like a greek temple, was really a reasonable fellow.
Intellectuals like her cannot see a snake even as it hisses and bares its fangs.

Has Peggy pulled her head out?

No. She's still a Bush-basher and RINO, and is still sulking because Pres. Bush didn't chose HER as a speechwriter:

And the third reason is that the past decade has taught them what a disaster looks like, and they’ve lost their taste for standing next to one.

Affirmative action can move someone above his/her Peter Principle level.

I rather think that the whole “health care” circus is a diversion from Obama’s systematic war on small farmers, ranchers, and other rural people. Small town and rural America, a.k.a. “Clingerland”, is under attack from agencies, banks, so-called environmentalists, and international corporations.

When they accomplish rural cleansing and control of terrain and food supply, then health care is just a fiat, stroke of the pen.

But she is talking about Congressional Republicans, not you and me. Of course, that still doesn’t change my impression that she is an elitist.

Peggy Noonan is writing good stuff recently. The Krauthammer struck out this week, so Peggy is taking up the slack.
