About 600 GM dealerships are getting a second life. Of the 1,160 dealers who appealed orders to shut down as part of bankruptcy proceedings, approximately half will be allowed to stay open. But one dealer tells the Detroit News that it's no cause for celebration until the conditions are made clear, possibly as soon as today.
"They could make it cost-prohibitive or they could set conditions like they need 30-year site control of our properties, which is what Chrysler is doing," she said. "It should be as simple as if the dealerships are viable and sustainable, they should be reinstated."

Not the way it works, you can change your incoming cars to a degree, but you can’t just refuse o carry cars.

Um, most cars sold in the US are automatics, it’s just that they have a floor shifter instead of a column shifter.
Fewer and fewer cars come with a column shift these days. There are some trucks that still do, but it’s a vanishing item in cars.
Government motors is a communist enterprise. No one will buy their cars. Right now ,if you look around, you will never see one on the steets. They are selling only fleets to the government for printed money. Their cars will be pieces of communist crap.DO NOT EVER BUY ANY GOVERNMENT MOTORS PRODUCT EVER!!!!
Try a Nissan -- 0.0% financing for five years for many models if you have good credit.
The Sentra has a 5-star crash test rating and gets > 30 mpg highway.

I agree with not buying a government motors car, but I’m afraid that we’ll just end up subsidizing the company. They’ll never let their loyal supporters go without a job or lose benefits. Profitability doesn’t matter with the government - just make up the difference with tax payer money.
Maybe so and probably true ,but , it will be with money that they steal from me, not that I give them by buying a vehicle.
The next big move will be to use Govt funding to undercut the list price of EVERY non-Govt. Motors vehicle in the US. "They need this infusion of funding to ensure the investment already established to keep those jobs already in peril... blah... blah... blah"
a great many of the closed down dealerships were in small towns that are tens of miles away from big cities. Obama got back at the small town fly-over country folks by making GM and Chrysler closed down the small town dealerships
