Tancredo rips Palin: Not 'presidential,' just selling books By Eric Zimmermann - 03/01/10 12:09 PM ET

Former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) ripped into fellow Tea Party favorite Sarah Palin in a recent interview, saying she's not "presidential" and accusing her of simply trying to sell books.

In an interview published yesterday (via GOP 12) Tancredo said he can't see Palin as commander in chief.

"I really don’t have this feeling about her as being presidential," he said. "I don’t know what it is exactly. I don’t know if the issues really are that difficult for her or not.”

Tancredo said Palin doesn't seem to be attempting to improve as a candidate and suggested that her goal seems to be to "make a lot of money and stay in the mix."

Tancredo said he's particularly upset that Palin will campaign for John McCain in his primary against J.D. Hayworth, a Tancredo ally:

She has to do this to rise in the party ranks?

“I think so.’’

So she is just as much an unprincipled politician as all the rest of them?

“To a large extent.’’

And you still love her?

“I didn’t say that!’’

Well, in your Tea Party speech you pointed out that she could finally say all those wonderful things now she’s free from McCain.

“I said: ‘Now she can tell it like it is.’ And she chooses not to.’’

But Tancredo saved his heaviest fire for McCain, whom Tancredo has long disagreed with on immigration reform, among other things.

“I don’t like him," Tancredo said flatly. "He is not a very pleasant person. He is nasty, mean; the skin of an onion would look deep compared to his. He has a short fuse, he is almost peculiarly unstable.”

“This is not a good move for Tancredo. If all she is doing is selling books, what is he doing?”

well it got him some press time if nothing else

Oh goodness gracious.. Duncan Hunter isn’t winning a statewide or national election in anybody’s lifetime. I honor him for his service but trying to make the jump from a no-named quiet mouse in the House to President makes me want to question his sanity.

Duncan Hunter got 3.5% in his own district in the 2008 primary.. I don’t care if you’re out of it or not. If you’re only pulling 3.5% in your own district, something is wrong. He got beaten by Huckabee, Paul, and he barely edged out Giuliani.

He definently was a stalking horse for McCain, IMO.. I regret sending Thompson a nickle.

I wasn’t thrilled when she resigned her office last year...yes I understand the issues involved but she was elected for a 4 year term. Nobody made her run.

Ronald Reagan, who "was elected (governor)for a 4 year term", ran for president after two years.

then she came out and endorsed the chief RINO of all the RINO’s.

Ronald Reagan picked Richard Schweiker, an 85% liberal senator, to be his one heart beat away from the presidency, VP choice.

I’ll never vote for her for President. (in a primary...I’d have to reconsider in a general if she’s the GOP nominee).(I miss Ronald Reagan!)

Look, everybody is entitled to their opinion about who will make a good president, but you are not entitled to your above, tired, documented contradictions without being called on it.

Frank, that is the first thing I thought of. She doesn’t have the necessary body parts.

With people like McCain, Graham, Romney and Specter, what Reagan said about that doesn’t matter anymore. They may as well have a (D) next to their names.

The only thing Sarah Palin needs to do to lose my support today is start endorsing liberal solutions to problems. To my knowledge she hasn't yet done that.

There simply is no chance any kind of discussion like this could be remotely possible if not for McCain. If Sarah Palin didn't acknowledge that she would show lack of class to epic proportions. So far I haven't seen her act with other than admirable class.

I hope the people of Arizona choose Hayworth. In the end, it's their choice.

Actually, the Republican party of the sixties and seventies had a lot more liberal congressmen than it does today.

(That's not to say we shouldn't work to defeat your above list).

Right. Because Tancredo was so principled when he supported Mitt.

Amen brother, also Tancredo is ignorant about what Sarah is doing........

Sarah is writing a policy book soon.
Sarah just started to get daily briefings from a qualified team of advisers.
Sarah has been meeting with big donors and money people behind the scenes.
Sarah is starting up a new PAC - Stand up for our nation.
Maybe the most important, Sarah’s staff don’t leak info so that all of the D.C. insiders, the media and people like Tancredo don’t know what’s going on.......

BTW Is not being Presidential a least making up you’re mind on who you are?, because that would knock Mitt out of the running

From Wikipedia. Says a lot about Tancredo:

“As a Republican student activist Tancredo spoke in support of the Vietnam War. After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado he became eligible to serve in Vietnam in June 1969. Tancredo has said he went for his physical, telling doctors he had been treated for depression, and eventually got a “1-Y” deferment.[6]. Critics have noted that Tancredo’s appearance before the draft board led it to rule him mentally unfit for duty due to generalized anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.[7]” Sounds like he's still nuts.

But figuratively speaking she's got "bigger ones" that most of the male Republicans these days. If she runs, she has my vote without a blink.

If she doesn't run, I'd have to study the field hard, but it would probably be the one who most espouses her values and courage.

Bad move, Tom, and totally unnecessary.

You’ve broken the “11th Commandment” for no apparent reason, and will now be repositioned in the “RINO - stealth lefty” column in many people’s minds.

At the very least, you’ve just demonstrated your tone-deafness and complete blindness to the current political landscape, which will paint you as a dunce to some seasoned political watchers.

You were either very stupid to make these comments, or you’ve chosen sides. If it’s the latter, you’ve chosen badly.

Duncan Hunter finished 8th of 7 candidates in the Michigan primary (which occurred before he withdrew). He actually finished behind “undecided.” It's a sad story when more people go out in the cold to vote for “undecided” than a real live candidate.

I like Duncan Hunter, but the fact is that he has negative charisma.
